Pocket World in Figures 2017

I've bought Pocket World in Figures every year for many years.The 2017 edition arrived yesterday. From a quick initial look, on page 78 the book says Ireland has the world's 6th largest air travel market with apparently 101 million passengers carried per year. That's around as many passengers as in Germany and Brazil (shown as 107.6 million and 100.4 million respectively), so the Ireland figure is totally wrong.On page 75 the league table of the world's 50 most crowded national road networks somehow manages to omit Belgium. This is a relatively densely populated country with high car ownership, very busy roads, and frequent traffic jams particularly in and around Brussels and Antwerp. I think Belgium should be between 20th and 35th on the list -- over to you, Economist!Occasional errors aside, this is a great annual publication.

This is one of those books I buy every few years, my first was in 1993. I buy it because I am a China watcher and I look to see how big its economy is each year. Back in 1993 China ranked 10th with a GDP of 416 $bn, now in the 2010 edition China ranks 4th with a GDP of 3,206 $bn, ahead of the UK (5th). But in purchasing power China lies 2nd to the USA. The book is full of lists of world rankings, covering many topics. Plus it has 71 country profiles. This book will be useful for businessmen, travellers and lovers of trivia.

Full of handy facts and figures for anyone involved in analysis of financial markets, economics, or political commentary/analysis. Perfect for Journalists or anyone expected to provide any sort of commentary on economic or political matters.

Contains some unnecessary errors. P47 Largest service output omits New Zealand which should have been in 41st place at $92bn.P.44 Largest aid recipients again omits Israel. Much of U.S aid to that country is hidden in its budget but must amount to several billion dollars.

Excellent book. provision of facts is good and provides a snapshot of the current economic activity.

Have no idea if the figures in these books is either accurate or up to date, but they are interesting never the less.

This book has quickly become one of my favorites, anyone who has even the slightest interest in economics and the facts to a countries success should definitely buy this book.

Does what it says on the tin. I use for light research for college. Is great, but I find myself having to dig more to get what I need sometimes.
