My First Period DVD

We decided to tackle this topic with our entire Girl Scout Troop (age 9 - 10) I invited the girls' moms in to act as our "expert" panel. Together, we watched the DVD. Each girl was given 5 note cards to ask questions anonymously. I collected the cards and we answered them as a group. I know the girls were comforted/surprised that we adults all have the same answers and shared similar fears at their age. I think they were also surprised that the grown women could discuss their periods like they were discussing the weather - which is what we really wanted to impart - That it is natural, normal and nothing to create shame. The DVDs were great and really contributed to the positive atmosphere. Such great information shared; stuff I never would have thought to include myself, yet makes TOTAL sense from the viewpoint of a 10 year old. I had parents thanking me for opening the door for more conversations AND who wanted to order copies for their own family to own. Dr. Chrystal is so gentle and non threatening. I can't say enough positives about the DVD.

This product is so special...my daughter & I love it. I was a little skeptical at first since we already have such an open relationship & I've had my period since middle school so I consider myself an expert in that department however there are so many things that come up that your everyday "period conversation" just doesn't cover. The examples that were used to demonstrate how quickly or slowly your monthly flow is was by far my favorite part. It's so difficult to explain to a prepubescent girl how the flow of your period will actually be. My daughter thought it would be like a water faucet...poor baby. I've had friends ask if they could borrow it or send their daughters over to watch it. I feel prepared for that day instead of worried & my daughter isn't afraid anymore either.

This video was a wonderful way to introduce my daughter to the concept of transitioning into womanhood. Although she was only 8 when we watched it, it was still extremely appropriate and she handled the material quite well. I think it's great that the doctor opted to create the video in somewhat of a talk show format with mothers and daughters. I've recommended it to so many of my friends with daughters approaching this age. It is suggested that you watch it first alone since it is a sensitive subject. I only watched part of it first.This video addresses the topic in no other way I've seen in the past. It made me wish that something like this was around when I was a girl.

This product was great. I bought it to aid in explaining puberty to my eight year old daughter. The doctor does a great job keeping the discussion age appropriate and keeping in mind that the Dvd is not a replacement for discussions with your child, but an instructional aide. Ibelieve this product helped to soften the mood and to meet my child where she was at in terms of the whole birds and bees thing.She informed me that she doesn't like boys yet so I could be a little vague in that area. The bracelet and purse that are included were great gifts that served a the dual purposes of being practical and cute

This is a great DVD for mother/daughters to watch and learn about their bodies. Very age appropriate, explained things well, and the speaker was very professional. I would highly recommend this for moms to get and watch with their daughters. My 11-year-old daughter watched it with me. She thought it was very informative and answered all her questions.

I bought this for my daughter when she was 8. I showed her part of the movie that pertained to her age level and saved some of the more detailed stuff for later. She loved the movie and all the information given. Highly recommend this to all moms with girls 8 and up

Meh. Don't understand the high ratings for this one. Neither did my daughter (age 11). Not worth the time to return, but will not be the go-to when needed.
