Very informative, no-nonsense
I just got this book this week and I am very happy with it. I got it because I've had a hard time finding information on shipping container buildings beyond designs people have made in a design program. It's been hard to find answers to things like "what exactly are the dimensions of a '40 foot container'." Anyhow, this book has info like that and it's very specific. It is not one of those do it yourself books with lots of pretty pictures and an intro filling half a page every 2 pages that's like "When you think of Electricity, you might think of such and such, but blah blah blah..." F that. This book is small, with small type, and actually has good information in it.

Nuts and Bolts Information, not Design
Hi all.As with many people, we have seen some really bad times in this economic downturn. We recently sold our home and are now renting while we decide what our next move is going to be. I am convinced that our future (my family specifically, but humanity collectively) is in building a more sustainable future. As such, I am looking for ways to make my next house a totally green experience.I do, however, struggle to convince my wife that living green does not have to mean living out of a box. Rather, I believe it means that we need to try our best to conserve, in all aspects of our lives. As such I picked up this book as a primer for my education into giving my family a green home. They are not convinced, as you might expect, that we can convert a shipping box into a home. That adding solar and a heat pump, ceramic paint (for R value) on the outside and expanding insulation on the inside will make for a comfortable environment. I am convinced it can be.That said, I picked up this book to try and understand just what I would be up against. It is a great book from a CAD perspective, giving me all the technical dimensions needed to plug it into my program. It falls short, however on style and vision of what a home could be, providing only very limited illustrations and sub-par pictures of containers that have already been deployed.I will have to check out more "design" type books for that level of information. Still it is a good primer and something I will keep around as a technical reference guide. Buy it for that reason.

Lots of data on shipping containers
This book has a tremendous amount of data on shipping containers. This is the book I was looking for the whole time. Numbers, lots of numbers, lots of useful numbers! Metal gauges, interior dimensions, exterior dimensions, paints, chemicals, weights, it's all here. I do need one or two more dimensions, specifically the corner bracket hole size. But, that is about the only number missing from this book. Ideal for my needs.

Great book for starters
I bought this for my husband as he wants to build with these. He has already slightly modified one container used for an office at work. Nicknamed the sweatbox. This book gives you x ray eyes so to speak so you can see how to to dismantle. and rebuild to your own specs. It has no floorplans or ideas, just the bare bones so you can run with your plans. Its a pretty thin paperbac so I think the cost was a bit high but he's been happy with it and that's what counts. I would recommend if you are serious about container building sans surprises.

Not worth buying
This "book" is mostly a list of random specs on shipping containers. There a few line drawings showing how to attach containers, but nothing really worth looking at twice. I hate to be negative, but I don't see much advantage to this one.

... of this other one this is by far the better. It provides information (such as container dimensions) in ...
Of the two books I purchased on Amazon (seriously stay clear of this other one Shipping Container Homes BOX SET 2 IN 1: DIY Projects: 55 Secret Tips How To Build Your Own Shipping Container Home + 15 General Mistakes To Avoid.: ... construction, shipping container designs) this is by far the better. It provides information (such as container dimensions) in user-friendly table format, and also container exploded views, details of the components comprising a container, paint specs, and other details. It talks to installing a roof, schemes for joining containers, photos of buildings, including details such as how a particular roof was joined to the container.
