Worked out well, didn't need the foam
I have the same model staple gun as the one they call out in the instructions, as well as a smaller one that I like better. Neither worked very well. I think the plastic shell has gotten too hard over the years. Also be careful removing / installing the small screws holding the inside plastic panel to the lid--the old, brittle plastic will crumble if you give it a mean look. That being said, the cover looks good on the console lid.I did not use the piece of foam included in the kit, as the OEM foam was custom shaped for the lid and was still soft and resilient. My only complaint is that it is about four shades of gray lighter than the rest of my 2000 Explorer interior.

Excellent replacement for the original!
My middle console's vinyl tore about six months ago. After driving around and having it rub uncomfortably against my elbow, I finally decided that it was time to replace it, and, after seeing this, add some padding so it'll be a little more comfortable for my elbow when I drive. I ordered it, and it arrived in a very timely fashion; three days before the earliest estimated delivery day. The install was very simple and took around 20 minutes between the instructions provided and the youtube video. When the install was done, it looked like it would have when it left the factory. I've never done upholstery before, nor have I ever dealt with fixing things like this, but thanks to the help provided, it looks professionally done. I would definitely recommend it for anybody who's middle console is starting to wear and tear because, from what I've seen in other Ford Explorers, it seems to be a common problem. This is an excellent replacement that keeps your vehicle looking good as well as adding comfort to your drive.

it looked like a factory install
It took me about 30 minutes to get the new cover stapled to the frame due to the need to really bear down on the staple gun to get the staples to stay in the plastic. It would have been much easier just to replace the old frame and cover as an already assembled unit, but when it was done, it looked like a factory install. And with the added foam, it is much more comfortable.

Did the job!
Worked fine to replace the console on a 97 ford Explorer.Staples were kinda hard to get into the hard plastic but eventually did the job.Would recommend to anyone looking to replace the console as a quick fix. Definitely looks better!

Use glue
Like the product. Just use gorilla glue instead of staples let it sit The hardest part was getting the arm rest out of the truck

Looks Great.
Great product. Easy to use and the You Tube video was great. My son's 1996 Explorer had a cracked and ripped console. He removed the old cover and installed the new one in about 15 minutes. The only issue was he had to really bear down on the stapler to get the staples to attach to the hard plastic of the console. It worked and looks great.

It looks great and factory
I'm no upholsterer, and I was able to put this on with just a couple wrinkles in the corners. It looks great and factory. If I had taken more time and care it'd be flawless... Perfect color match too. (I have an 00 Mercury Mountaineer Monterey 5.0 AWD)
