Dreadfully flawed, not surprised Google pulled it from shelves quickly.
Updated Aug-2017, Initially I gave this product 4 stars, as it "was" good, however having owned and suffered with it for a time I've down rated it....it's junk. When the product was new it worked great and I loved it but as time has gone by its gotten progressively worse. There are a number of frankly infuriating issues with it that make me want to hurl it at the nearest wall.1) it chokes up completely when you browse the web. That's right just browsing the web (doesn't seem to matter what browser, I've tried most) it eventually stalls stutters and grinds to a complete halt for no explainable reason. Being a web developer I personsally have a hunch that it's a rogue script or has or a poorly (non mobile friendly) developed website I happen to go to but how is one to know? If you're lucky the device it's self won't inexplicably restart on you.2) it gets extremely hot when browsing the web, like proper hot. I can use the YouTube app all day to watch videos or play a game and it barley gets warm. The moment your use the WiFi to browse the net to BOOM, I turn it over and fry and egg. The result of this is that battery life can drop 10% or more in less than 15 minutes. If you continue to use it gets so hot it will restart without warning . There are known WiFi issues for the N9 which were apparently fixed but they clearly haven't been.3) and this is the big one, you can't use the device for anything below 50% charge as your run the risk of the screen going white sometimes with lines on it some times with no white but lines and experience a complete crash. If you were in the unfortunate position of watching a video or paying a game at the moment it has a nervous breakdown your greeted with a stark, sudden, unrelenting and instant high pitched screech (tone) from the speakers. It's will cause you to jump out of your skin and isn't particularly pleasant to experience. You then have to hold the power button down fro 10 or so seconds for it to restart. Sometimes it will reboot sometimes it will not and just hangs. Sometimes it will restart and then as soon as you hit the home screen it stutters and restarts. It can be a real struggle to get it back on times.Google (HTC) should be ashamed of releasing such a flawed product at any price especially the high asking price this initially had., It's well documented the issues people experience with it. I know you can't buy them anymore but I felt I needed to update my original review and vent. The device is only 3 years old and whilst I don't expect it to keep up with current offerings its deplorable that the product is literally unusable on times after only a year or so into ownership. I've put up with it as I don't want to spend another 3-400 on a new device just 3 years into ownership .

A good, considered, performant tablet.
This is a great product. Some reviews complain about light bleed around the edges of the screen, which this tablet does have, but is not significant and if you are that sensitive to such things, spend the (significant) extra and buy an iPad, but if you're more interested in performance and functionality, etc., then this tablet is the perfect balance of cost, weight, and size. The only reason I haven't given this 5 stars is the length of time it takes to charge. The battery life is great, but it takes several hours to recharge, which may not be convenient for all users/use cases. And, like any Android device, it is frustrating that you can't uninstall apps that are not required for the tablet to operate, but cannot be uninstalled because they have been published by Google (for example, I have an Office 365 subscription, so have installed Microsoft Office for Android on my tablet, but am unable to uninstall the equivalent Google Apps that I do not need) - this is a problem common to all Android devices, sadly, so no reason not to get this particular tablet, but to avoid Android devices if this will bother you, but for a device without extensible storage, it would have been nice to have been able to optimise the on-board storage. All of that said, the Nexus 9 is a brilliant tablet - a MUCH cheaper option than the iPad for people that don't need the status or interface for which Apple products are renowned. Highly recommended.

Nexus 8.9 review.
I was prompted to purchase this tablet because my daughter has a nexus 10 which ticked all the boxes for me, I also read reviews before buying, in the main it does what it says on the box and serves my purposes, but the annoying thing is every so often it sticks on landscape, when I mostly use it in portrait mode, to get out of this I have to reboot , which seems to to take an age, that's the reason I have only given 3 stars, Maybe I am just unlucky and fell for a Monday morning product, I have been told that if I take it back to factory settings it may cure the problem but that would mean setting everything up again and re downloading all my apps some of which are paid for apps, too much trouble.

Slowing down
I have had this for over a year now and it has been great, but there are so many updates now it is starting to slow down. I have done all the maintenance etc. But to no avail seems like I have to buy a new one every 18 months.

This is quite simply the best value tablet you can buy
This is quite simply the best value tablet you can buy.The Nexus 7 feels cheap and nasty in comparison. At almost 9" the screen is 1 inch larger than the iPad mini with the same screen resolution. It's light and just the right shape to hold in one hand making all the usual tasks, reading e-books, browsing the web and email a joy.Once I'd completed the usual updates it just works exactly as it should without any hitches; also it came fully charged which was a bonus!I can't add anything more to describe how fabulous this tablet is. I work in technology and have used many different tablets and for the money this is outstanding and without equal, I'm really pleased I made this choice :)

Not Happy..
This tablet worked for a day or so, then it would keep loosing wi fi connection reapetedly & then refuse to connect to wi fi at all. I performed factory reset & it worked for a day or two... same problem blah blah.. Reapeat process.. same result...NO WI FI.Alarmingly the seller would not allow me to return the item through the proper channels as stated in thier return's policy. Unfortunately for me I'm now 2 days outside the "File a claim" time limit... My fault..Not Happy..
