Could this be safely used for direct grilling? Putting food straight on to the grill (I know it says not intended for..)

The text explicitly says: "Not designed for direct-contact grilling". It's intended to sit over a fire and support your cookware. I can't see why it wouldn't *work* for direct-contact grilling, but I assume they'd say the warranty is void if used that way. I'd also imagine it's a bitch to clean if you get grease burned on.

Hi, what is the size of the xl actual grid please without taking the legs into account and why can you not directly cook on it? Thanks

35" x 16" (89 x 41cm). You could cook on the grid, but the instructions said not to, possibly because of the paint used. We purchased an add-on stainless steel grill rack to place on top, which works very well.
