Absolutely recommended
Excellent product. Simple and effective design, easy installation, high quality, perfectly fulfills the purpose.Installation: remarkably easy. Use a screwdriver to loosen up (no need to fully remove) your deadbolt plate just a couple of millimeters out so you have room to slide the Flip Guard in. Rotate as needed in order to align with the deadbolt lock while in the âlockedâ position, then use the screwdriver to tighten it again. Thats it.Performance: Perfect. I locked my door with both the deadbolt and then with the Flip Guard, and it was not possible to unlock the door with a key from the outside. It was not possible to unlock the door from the inside either while the Flip Guard was in the locked position. Even when that test seems silly, I did it to test how firm/reliable the system was, trying to check for any chances for it to slip or get rotated after repetitive or strong enough attempts. It didnât move not even a bit. The system is steady and reliable when properly installed.Error-proof: some people have asked about the Flip Guard getting locked by accident after closing the door. If you install it the right way, that being with the Flip Guard pointing downwards while in the unlocked position, it is physically impossible that it gets locked by itself against gravity. But even if you install it the wrong way with the Flip Guard pointing upward while in the unlocked position, the âpivotâ system is not loose, so it will never get locked because of gravity (check my second picture for better understanding). It doesnât move freely, you have to push it from one position to the other, which makes it safe. If anyone is concerned about it getting unlocked accidentally, notice the small magnets (four little circles in the picture) that keep it fixed in the locked position. They are not potent magnets that would move the lock by accident, just potent enough to keep it in the right position when locked.Price: I donât even remember how much I paid for the Flip Guard, because honestly I donât care. This is a simple and effective security system that is reliable and easy to install. This is the peace of mind I was looking for, and I found it. In any case, I know it wasnât expensive at all for what it does, otherwise Iâd remember the price.I decided to write this detailed review because I am highly satisfied with the quality of this product. No one asked me to do it and I get no benefits from doing it. I do sleep better at night knowing no one can open my door, not even having a key.

Good Idea, Doesn't Fit All Locks
This device seems like a good idea and I was excited to try it. When the product arrived, my first impression was that the finish looked cheap. I ordered the polished brass version, since that's what I have on my doors. I pulled it out of the package and my first impression was confirmed. The finish looks like what you might see on a really cheap doorknob. It is also unevenly applied and the brass color is not uniform across the device. So, it doesn't look very nice.I pulled it out of the package and was surprised by how difficult it was to open the latch. The latching mechanism is not clear in the pictures or videos I've seen, so let me describe it to you. On one end of the hasp you have the hinges. On the other end of the hasp there are two substantial tines. As you close the hasp the tines fit between a piece of metal which is almost rectangular in shape, but has a slight taper to it. As you close the hasp down, this rectanguler piece has the effect of wedging itself between the two tines. The more force you use when closing the hasp, the more force required to open it. It takes quite a bit of force to open, so much so that if fully closed down tightly I would be worried about my children's ability to open the door in the event of an emergency. The mechanism, as it opens and closes, just does not feel like a well made device. It's also very lightweight, having little heft. The action of the hinge is very stiff and I wouldn't be surprised if it breaks after not too long. For $25 I envisioned its quality being better. The last straw for me was that the hasp would not fit over my deadbolt knob. I do not have one of the standard Kwikset or Schlage deadbolts. So, even if I decided to overlook its other problems, it physically does not work with my deadbolt.Update 8/16/14 -- So, I tried to install this on a different deadbolt I have at my house. This one is a cheaper Kwikset lock. I figured installation on this lock would be easy. No go. I ran into a couple problems. First the screws holding the deadbolt facing onto the door were too shallow to accommodate this device. With the device in place the screws could not reach their holes. Yes, it's true that this is probably a weakness of the Kwikset. Still, this is a common lock and it didn't install. It might work if I found some longer screws or if I installed it behind the deadbolt clamp rather than just the facing. However, I was also surprised that even if I were able to attach, it still wouldn't work with this lock. The problem is that the deadbolt knob actually protrudes a bit beyond the perimeter of the circle. This length prevented the hasp from being able to close down on it. If you look at the picture of the product, you will notice that the deadbolt knob/lever length is shorter than the diameter of the deadbolt. You can also see that if the knob/lever is sticking out beyond the bound of the circle, the hasp will not close.Update 12/17/17: Despite the aforementioned shortcomings, it has lasted just fine. I'm happy with it on the lock it fits.

Added deadbolt security from the inside
Just moved into a house and wanted more security for my front and back doors. My friend said that they had a bronze colored deadbolt cover which folds over the latch from the inside. Bought a couple in matching nickel finish to my door knobs and latches. Two minutes to install and adjust the location of the latch cover. Perfect added deterrent for someone trying to pick the lock from the outside. Even if they can turn the deadbolt, the latch cover wonât let the deadbolt turn more than a few millimeters. Good for a rental too as you can add and remove if you move or just want to have more security knowing that others have a copy of your key.

Extra piece of mind.
Lots of locks are susceptible to âbumpâ lock picking. This negates that flaw. For use when you are home.
