Eufy Smart Lock C33...a solid investment and well made.
I really did not want a deadbolt lock and this lever smart lock from Eufy was exactly what I was looking for. I have a couple video doorbells from eufy and was really impressed with those and their build quality. I was equally impressed with the door hardware and the deadlatch was beefier than the deadlatch on the old doorlatch it was replacing. Directions were pretty good just so small to see, but I had watched the installation video and that was very helpful. Yes, it really only takes about 15 minutes to install and set up (excluding the software update it installed when I was finished) I also just flipped the deadbolt to the lower hole on the door to ensure the eufy latch had clearance (its tall and would not have fit under the deadbolt as was the original configuration on the door. I already had the deadbolt installed below the door latch on one of my exterior doors (I am tall and just like the latch on the higher hole) so that install was even quicker. The finger (thumbprint) reader works great and fast. Now we know our two basement doors and the garage door are locked and secure every evening now. It specially makes my wife happy as I was constantly leaving those doors unlocked because I was always in and out of them so often and it was a pain to remember a key or having one hanging near the back doors. Now it's fast easy access and I don't need to remember to lock them afterwards...the smart lock latches now remember for me. I do not know how long batteries will last but once they go, I am just going to replace all 8 of them with rechargeable lithium AAs. Right now, I would highly recommend these lever smart locks especially easy if you have no deadbolt above your latch but it's easy enough to just switch them around putting your deadbolt on the bottom and they look and feel really nice too.

A solid door lock that fit my need perfectly
Our front door has only the lock and no deadbolt. I wanted to upgrade the lock to something the family could without having to remember those pesky keys (!), and also where we could give a combination to someone watching the cats, taking in the mail and the like. And I'm lazy, so I didn't want to start drilling. This lock is perfect. Installation was a snap, and while I didn't quite make it in 15 minutes, it was close enough for government work. From the quick installation to today, the lock has worked flawlessly. The lock has some real heft to it, so I'm going to extrapolate out from my 5 months experience and suggest that this lock will work for years to come. Software setup is quick and easy. Everyone in the family has her / his own code, everyone's fingerprint is set and notifications get sent when the door is unlocked. There have been numerous complaints about battery life. Eufy, I gotta say, stop shipping your lock with crappy batteries! I've installed other electronic locks and the first thing to go is always the batteries. That's especially the case if you live in colder climates. Just slap in a set of Energizer Ultimate Lithium batteries from the get-go (or rechargeable lithium) and you don't need to worry about short alkaline battery life. Sidebar warning though, the Energizer lithium batteries tend to maintain a solid charge for a long time, but when the decide to die, they die really quickly. Just be aware of that.

Read the installation instructions.
I own a lot of Eufy products and generally like them, but their smart locks relying on WiFi and cloud connectivity is a major drawback. Unlike Matter over Thread, which is self-healing, these locks don’t recover on their own. If my network goes down, the lock requires a full reconfiguration and I have to go through the pairing process again. In contrast, I have another smart lock connected via HomeKit that uses Matter over Thread. It remembers its settings and never needs repairing. I run a UniFi network with multiple VLAN options, including a dedicated 2.4GHz IoT network for all my smart devices. Even with this setup, the Eufy lock was a headache because it demands WiFi and cloud access just for setup. With Matter over Thread, everything runs locally through hubs like AppleTV or HomePods—it’s simpler and the network heals itself. Eufy makes solid hardware, but they’re stuck in the old model requiring cloud access over WiFi instead of embracing modern standards like Matter. Installation itself is straightforward—if you follow the official guide. You absolutely need to read the instructions or watch Eufy’s video. The lever has specific requirements, and you must use all the parts included in the box. Do not reuse parts from your old lock. It’s actually funny watching review videos where people skip steps and end up locked out or with a non-functional handle. Then they come here to blame the manufacturer, when the problem is clearly user error. That’s a fact. Stick to Eufy’s official tutorial—skip the YouTubers who often leave out important details or give oversimplified explanations. You’ve been warned. One feature I genuinely love about this lock is the internal clutch mechanism. It disengages the exterior handle, preventing anyone from applying weight to force the door open. Only authorized methods—fingerprint, password, NFC, or physical key—can engage the clutch and allow the handle to work. That’s excellent security. Another plus is flexibility. I was able to pair my Eufy cameras with the lock. When the clutch engages, the cameras automatically switch to recording that door. This deep integration is the main reason I stick with Eufy for security. They’re improving with sensors and other smart devices, but we really need alternatives to WiFi. A quick note on networks: Eufy devices prioritize 2.4GHz and don’t work well with 5GHz or tri-band setups. If your ISP router supports it, create a separate 2.4GHz IoT network and connect all smart devices there. Your ISP support can help, or you can buy your own router here on Amazon. To Eufy: Please implement Matter over Thread across all your products. It’s time.
