Making Concrete Garden Ornaments

This book is wonderful. It infirms and it inspires. Don't let the older published date deter you at all. The information remains100% relevant to making creative and functional cement garden objects. There are so many examples of how to simply make a garden art object in several different ways. Topics covered include: Creating and pouring multiple molds, wet and dry carving, sculpting with underlying armature, surface embellishments, and information about different types of cement and additives. Its a complete book that is well arranged and written. It gives the knowledge required to get started to create just about anything ones heart desires. If that wasn't enough, the book is peppered with examples of fine art cement sculpture. so one opens the book to make some cement planters or a bench but closes the book feeling like they could make the garden version if the mona lisa.

I've been learning how to make my own concrete planters and small garden art. I wanted more books to possibly take me to the next level of making larger items. Thus, I went on a buying spree and ordered more books about making concrete art. I REALLY wish I had known that this was an exact duplicate of Creating with Concrete. Because of the different front cover photos and ISBN I was under the illusion that this was a different book. I wish Amazon had a way to flag these types of books. On the upside is the fact that this book has a lot of technical details that will hopefully enable me to successfully make some larger concrete garden sculptures.

as far as i have seen, there is no other book like this one.think of it; you can; with this excellent book, create your own sculptures and the neighbors will die of envy! they will think you came into an inheritance and can now afford to enlist a fine artist to grace your front lawn with art.or how about a knock-out hugh heavy deeply engraved wildly artistic planter? the whole neighborhood will be on you to do your magic for them. i have so many plans now that i yearned to do for years and never thought was possible to acomplish.the book is extremely well laid out. tons and tons of step by step pictures. and various formulas for concrete from the usual we are accustomed to; to some very maliable patty sculpture-friendly types of material. the way to structure figures; some very complex, is clearly laid out so that you will never again be able to say "oh, i could never do that".sherri hunter, i am in your debt!!!

As soon as this book came, I had to go through it cover to cover. I love the projects, and the way everything is explained step by step. You are also given advice on using different mixes and techniques. I feel that the author not only teaches you how to do the projects in her book, but gives you the knowledge, skills, and encouragement to go beyond that. And that is exciting!

This is a good book. However, all 144 pages are identical to another hardcover book by the same author. The hardcover title is "Creating With Concrete." I'm not at all happy that I've bought two of the same. To me a DIFFERENT title and cover indicated a different book.

I'm new to small project concrete work and there is lots of info on the internet, but this book has filled in many gaps and has several recipes for mixes. Good illustrations/photos and so far this book has filled in pretty much what I needed. For anyone needing small section reinforcement search on "fiber mesh". many people use it and few know sources, try a local concrete supplier, you can get it in small bags , it's short fiberglass loose threads.Lots of solid safety info too. don't ignore it.

I'd been to a concrete sculpting class and this book was mentioned. Once I got home I decided to order it. This book has everything in it that we learned in class and then some. Basic, informational and filled with ideas to get you started on your sculpting journey!

I have not had the time to start any of the projects but this book does have a lot more information, ideas and designs then expected. Very good deal for a reasonable price. I recommend.

Awesome experience

I bought the "used" version of this book and happy I did not pay full price. I found the book is a good reference to show all the beautiful items one can create with concrete. It motivated me to delve into this medium of art creativity. However, I am really happy I did not purchase new as I don't feel the price charged is warranted.

Disappointing! If, like me, you wish to make garden planters, troughs and benches; then this book is not ideal - regardless of the 'cover picture' very little concerns the above. It will teach me not to judge a book by its cover! Far too 'arty-farty' - it ought to be called 'Arts & Craft Concrete''.....of course, if that's what you want.....

The delivery of this book took much longer than expected. However the ideas in this book are great!
