Kylie Minogue: X2008 [DVD]

I bought this amazing DVD back on Jan 17, 2009 and it arrived to me here in the U.S. within 3 buisness days via express 1-2 day shipping. Not bad for it traveling from the UK to Texas! I must say that Kylie is such a good role model, esp for all the she does for kids with cancer, etc. She is also a great entertainer, just like Madonna! I have been lisetning to Kylie's music since 1987. I really have been becoming more & more fascinated with her & her X 2008 Tour since the Christmas holiday, esp when I found out that was already released on DVD! I had to order this and not wait until it was offically released here in the U.S. later this year, maybe around March/April. I am so glad I got this one to complete my Kylie collection of concert DVDs! The way how Kylie reworks her songs she performs while on tour is simply wonderful! I love these songs from the DVD: Speakerphone, Can't Get You Out Of My Head/Boombox, Ruffle My Feathers, Wow, Copacabana, Spinning Around, Like A Drug, Come Into My World, Flower(Simply an amazing new song, which brings a tear to my eye when I listen to it), On A Night Like This, Your Disco Needs You, Step Back In Time, In My Arms, The One ( I love the Freemason's Mix!). Kylie X 2008 is all I have been watching this past month now. She has me hooked! I'd really wished she would come to the U.S. to tour someday.This DVD does play on my DVD player since it is Region 0, even though it is PAL. I own a Philips DVP1013 DVD player and it knows how to recognize & play Region 0 or Region Free DVDs. If you own a newly or recently purchased DVD player then it should work for us fans here in the U.S. I also own a Protron DVD player which will play both NTSC & PAL. But remember if you order this concert from amazon.uk then it will be Region 0.Every Kylie fan should own this amazing show and add it to their collection!

Ok so i held off buying this blu-ray for the last 8 years because of the negative reviews i heard . For some reason i decided to purchase from a seller from amazon and all i can say is - Wow !! - first of all (And i cant believe no-one else has noticed) you get an hours worth of backdrop videos in beautiful HD !! The dvd only had -"Speakerphone, Cant Get, Ruffle My Feathers, Sometime Samurai, Like A Drug & Sensitized - this blu-ray not only has all these plus it also has in full - In Your Eyes, Heartbeat Rock/Wow, Loveboat, Spinning Around, 2 Hearts, Nu-Di-Ty, In My Arms and the beautiful No More Rain - So for me it was worth buying for all these extra videos alone !The Concert has DTS HD Master Audio 5.1, Standard Dolby Digital 5.1 and LPCM (My preferred audio though) - Picture quality IS an improvement and is not DVD quality unlike most reviews ? I dont know what blu ray the other reviwers were watching ? certain shots(Mainly close-ups do like a tad on the grainy side but most other shots to me were HD and definitely not dvd quality - you can tell - maybe they used different stock for different camera angle set ups - if you are a Kylie fan then the blu-ray is the one to get plus the menu i better on the blu-ray too - all HD and totally interactive too :)

This review is to dispel any myth that the transfer from standard DVD to this "1080" , 16:9 FHA print is in anyway as bad as the various and previous reviews have stated here.I was at this show at London's "o2" in 2008 , so my choice to "up-grade" was made by my risk to bypass what was said about the poor quality , and bite the bullet to see for myself.So , the verdict ..Its important to know before you judge this blu-ray , and it has already been stated this concert was filmed entirely on 16mm film , and not 35mm as is standard on all good blu-ray transfers.So , bear in mind the film stock is almost half the size of a normal negative scanned , and you will never get the pristine picture many expect from the sharp digital world of cinema we see today.What the end product lacks in sharpness is very much compensated in resonance.The depth of picture has been enhanced to a degree of detail that brings the picture to life too , and given the picture is mostly dark as we are on stage and not out-doors , the whole thing is like a moving painting with vibrant colors popping , and though grainy the detail in Kylie's outfits is clearly very visible from the shiny buttons on her coats and elegant embroidery finishing her lush costumes.The HD scan had captured the show the way Kylie wanted to present it , and the black areas are solid with very little picture noise other then the rendered finish throughout the whole show.There is far more to be seen in the Blu-ray if you have your HD TV picture set right as I found adjustment with a THX optimizer that can be found found on many old DVD's helped me balance the brightness and contrast perfectly , which gives clarity and depth to any blu-ray no matter how poor the transfer.To sum up , the upgrade was WELL WORTH IT , and this version makes the show stunningly real , and I have also seen myself clearly on the right hand side of the stage a few rows back during the song "Kids" , something that was not as clear on the standard DVD.This Blu-ray also has an additional DTS soundtrack that will give any home cinema that "like your there" sound as does any "Digital Theater Sound" option on the blu-ray opening menu , although I found the PCM uncompressed track slightly higher on the rear speakers.Considering this was shot with film-stock lesser than what could have been the normal , its a dam good upgrade if you want to enjoy this show in even more glory then was 1st released in standard definition.Its really not all bad at all..
