Tristan Water Hyacinth Chair

I had been watching similar chairs from Pottery Barn that were more expensive and high shipping costs. I decided to purchase 4 of these beauties. (better price & free shipping). They came in 3 days! They were packaged perfectly, no damage during shipping. They are high quality and are fairly comfortable, I may buy cushions for them (I haven't decided yet). They definitely look high end and are a dark rich color. Love! Let's see how they stand up to my two young boys :)

Decent chair looks nice but darker than I thought it would be and took forever to receive...at a higher cost than the original quote.

Positives: It has a very designer look to it. It is higher than the normal chair height, which puts me at a comfortable height for eating. It seems easy to clean. It is 19 inches wide, and seems to have a smaller footprint than my old chairs. That will help get more chairs around a smaller table, and it makes my tiny dining room look larger. The color works with everything, and the highlights are a reddish brown, which works with my mahogany china cabinet. Hopefully, it is kid proof.Negatives: One chair had a shorter leg, so it went back. If I could have fixed it I would have, because it was not easy to repack this chair. It is just a tad bit less deep than I would like. I could have used another inch or at least a half an inch. It is not as comfortable as I had hoped it would be after reading the reviews. I guess everything is relative...I went from upholstered to hard. I thought the water hyacinth would be a lot softer, but it is shellacked and pretty hard. The seat does have some give, and it is not super UN comfortable, but you won't be lingering after coffee and dessert. I took off a star because of the short leg and the return aggravation. The rest I can deal with. It's a great deal for the price!Edit: The replacement chair has arrived, with the same problem as the other one. This defect seems more serious, though, with an extra wobble at the top. I just can't go throughout the packing process again, so I will call a handyman to see if he can fix it. That was 2 out of 5 chairs that were defective. I removed another star, because it will cost me at least $25 to fix it. Handyman, 1 hour.Second edit--The handyman just left. It took him 2 hours, since he had to removed the stapled cover from under the chair. Then he put sixteen screws in, because what I thought was just a short leg, really was the chair being totally unstable all-around. The chair isn't perfect, and I hope no one falls through. He told me that this was a completely different chair than the others. He measured the legs, they were 1/4 inch less in width than the first three. I removed two more stars, because it cost me $50 and the quality of the replacement chair was completely different from the others. My handyman looked at the chair and said "Are you sure you don't want to send this back?" Don't buy this chair. It is not worth the aggravation.

This is a very nice looking chair but as I have seen from other reviews the chair is not level. I had to purchase some chair pads to put underneath one of the legs to make it level. Other than that works well for an extra seating in our bar area. Love the contrasting colors of the dark rattan and black. Smooth and not catching. Small imprint in our corner and does not take up much room, as I was looking for a smaller chair. It's not a soft, cushy chair so if that is what you are looking for don't get this one. It has a foam seating but a hard one. I like it for our bar area vs. getting one of fabric is that if anyone spills anything on it you can easily wipe up with damp cloth. It came packaged great and no damage.

First off, these chairs ARE comfortable and the colors are true to the picture. The dark IS dark...it is an espresso color. LOVE these! We also purchased the Verde Collection Lombock Rattan Side Chair and like these quite a bit more. The story of the water hyacinth plant and how it is repurposed into these lovely chairs is really cool. If I remember correctly, it is a plant in Africa that is taking over the waterways...grows like CRAZY. It sure makes beautiful furniture and baskets, though! I hope they come back in stock. I paid $114 for these, no shipping.

Color on seat wore off quickly. Looks old and worn out. Not good for everyday use.

Although attractive, I sent them back. They contain above the required amount of a chemical that causes CANCER. I also had a lot of problems returning them! Not too thrilled about that!!!!

Great chair and quality for the price. It's comfo as well.
