Archaea Nano Aquarium Heater and Controller

DO NOT buy this for a marine aquarium. The rubber at top and bottom started turning grey within a week. Once it starts "pitting," I am pulling it from the tank. I use my cheap 7 w heater's stick on holder to hold the aeration tube down for this tank and it is as black and fresh looking as the day it went in the tank--which was before this heater. Also, the large 25w sticker on it started coming off within an hour of putting it in the water. It came off in 2 days and I had to peel the adhesive off the heater.Pros: My trusty 50 w Tetra heater was too bulky for a .9 gallon pico marine tank, so I bought this. The heater itself is barely wider than a pencil and fits nicely. I love the control being outside the tank. However, it has the shortest cord I have ever had for any aquarium product and I need to use an extension cord. I like how it has a green light that stays on to show that it is plugged in in addition to the red light that comes on when it is working.Cons: Besides gray rubber almost immediately? I need to keep the heater set about 3-5 degrees higher than the actual desired temperature. I think this is a little strange as the tank is only a .9 gallon with light aeration. I do not know if this is a manufacturing defect or it was damaged in transit as the seller sent it in a padded envelope and like all heaters, there was no padding in the actual box to protect it.I really don't know if this is worth $30. It seems like a great idea, but with shoddy execution. Because the small size fits my tank so perfectly, I gave it 3 stars instead of one star.Update: Purchased this the end of Dec. 2017. Stopped working in Sept. 2018.

I use this in a 5g tank and have no problems. I like that the temperature control is outside of the tank and optional for changing the temp vs. a pre-set device. This is perfect for a small tank and less costly than other products.

I have had two of these because of recommendations from my local fish store but neither lasted a year. The first one stropped working in less than three months.
