amazing prequel and standalone
this will be a bit biased coming from a huge far cry 5 fan.far cry: absolution is a great prequel novel to the video game far cry 5 as well as a standalone novel. the writing itself if easy to read and descriptive at the same time, fully immersing the reader in the happenings of fictional hope valley county, montana.the characters are true to the source material and are actually seen more in-depth as opposed to the video game (whixh makes sense considering the game is an open world fps). mary may and will boyd are very flawed characters but have struggles many readers can relate to on different levels.i would recommend this for more "mature" audiences (16+) seeing that there's many depictions of violence, strong language, and sexual themes. the same goes for the source material which is available for pc, the ps4, and xbox.

Far shot far cry
I went into this book expecting mediocre character development but a decent background story of the game I have been anticipating for a while. I wanted to finish this before the release of far cry 5 and with the audio book and my reading I have done so!I was not disappointed and pleasantly surprised with William Boyd. The main character of this book a member of the cult that plays the antagonist in this latest far cry rendition. I hope once I start playing the game I see how far the author went into the research of this book to develop him. The reading was easy to follow and the written detail really immersed me into he story. I don’t want to spoil the book but i really want to know what happens next!On the scale of 1-10 I give this book an 8 and would totally recommend it. My only complaint about the book is the dang bear cub! Bring him back! Also I feel as though William Boyd could have his own stand alone book leading up to him joining the cult!

Good writing for a spin-off
I liked the author’a writing style. He was great with setting the mood with the minor details, especially with the hunter, Will. He seemed to know a thing or two about the outdoors, and I really felt inside the character’s head. Makes me want to read more of his work.I thought this was an okay setup for the game. I’m about to start my second playthrough of it and thought I should read this while my mind is on the subject. It didn’t expand much upon its story, and from what I remember about Mary May, not too much on her either, despite her being the book’s main supporting character. It makes the game’s story a little more personal to her, but not much. I would’ve liked to have read more about Sheriff Whitehorse, since he’s such an interesting character; or about how Joseph Seed got started, specifically his history with his daughter and wife.None the less, it was a good read. Easy. Finished it in just over a day. Will definitely look into this author’s other books. The internal monologue that Will and Mary May had was good, and it said more about the human experience more than what I would expect for a video game novelization, but not enough to fulfill my standard for five stars. Still good writing. And since the story was just okay, just three stars.

Quick Well-Written Read
I've played the other Far Cry games and was super excited to play Far Cry 5. While waiting for the game to be released, I purchased this pre-quel novel. It has made me more excited to play and dig deeper into the story line of the game. The novel is extremely well written and I was able to finish the book in a weekend. So why read a prequel? Could you still play the game and understand what's going on? The novel is good. It helps paint the landscape of the dichotomy of the factions of the resistance and Eden's Gate. The book will help you create more of an emotional investment in your gameplay and the choices you'll ultimately make. At least this is my personal opinion, I still have to wait another week to play!

Too many "said"'s
This was a book written before the game was finished, which is very obvious. For me, the biggest issue I had was how bland it all felt. As if someone was told to write a book and they kind of only had a little concept that lasted way too many pages. I get the tone they were going for, but it fell short for me. I was bored throughout. There were some good bits of dialogue, but there were just too many "said"s instead of more descriptive words like asked (for one, my goodness)

You Love the Game?
If you find yourself listening to all the dialogue, reading all the notes and searching around for other clues and tidbits to the story line, I recommend this book. Well written and easy to stay with. Helps to shed some light on the cult's start, and a bit on the inside of the cult, as well. Worth the purchase, in my opinion.

Pretty good story
Pretty good story. The characters are good and relatable. I however would say it's biggest weakness is that there is not really a resolution and so it does require the reader to later become a player. I know that 99% of people are reading this because they plan on playing, but anything that comes out and requires you to buy something else for closure needs to have that called out.

Greatly Told Underwhelmed by the topic
I gotta say after seeing the far cry 5 campaign I was hoping that this book would go more in depth on the political issues that Could be been discussed but overall it is an entertaining read the characters are likeable and the villains are hateable it does everything it needs to and that's about it

Okay
So I LOVE far cry 5 but didn’t know this book existed until I started playing New Dawn. So my plan was to start this book and then go back and re-play 5.I thought I’d just obsess over this book no matter what as I just love the Seeds and storyline. But it could have been so much better! The first 20% took me about 2 weeks to complete as I nearly gave up on it countless times. It slowly got better then I completed the last 50% in one day.Read it if you like the game but stick with it. It is an interesting back story but it just could have been so much better.

Disappointing :(
I absolutely loved Far Cry 5 and as an avid reader I thought this book would be great to bring even more life to Hope County. The most interesting parts of the book centred around John Seed and Mary May but these parts were hidden among the boring, tedious chapters following some guy partially involved in the cult who’s name I can’t even remember because he was so flat.

A good read, but the book binding couldve been better.
Giving four stars, only because of the binding. The book is thin. It needed printing on paper stock roughly half an inch wider for it to be comfortable to read. The story itself is interesting and I cant really comment on that due to the fact that I'm only one forth of the way into it, but my wrists ache so much from having to prise the book open to read the words closest to its centre bind. Good thing it's not an incredibly long book, or else I think I'd end up with carpal tunnel from the strain.

Fantastic book for any Fc fan!
Absolutely adored Fc5 and when i saw this i was a little put off...usually video game books arent great or stray away from the actual plot/characters but this book; this book is fantastic! A new pov into Hope Countys favourite badass barkeep and a perspective on just how intense things were before the actual game begins. I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes Far Cry 5. Its clear just how much effort ubisoft has done to work with the writer and just how much the writer has done to provide us with a short thrilling prequel to FC5!

An enjoyable read
I enjoy the far cry games and as the later ones link to the Edens Gate cult it was a nice bit of background.
