This was on my son's Christmas list a year ago, and safe to say that a year later it is still one of his favourite toys. He is 10 years old, his 7 year old brother loves it too. There are varying levels of difficulty in the designs within the instruction booklet, and you can also create your own. The pieces fit together really easily. It is great that you can also buy add on packs as it gives us gift ideas going forward. It's not cheap, but it's excellent value for money and so satisfying when you create an awesome track!

We bought a Starter Set each for our 7yo twins. Box says 8+ but with a little help here and there they have got on absolutely fine with it. Really great fun, easy to use, endless track possibilities. Has kept them busy for hours and hours! There is a manual with pre-designed tracks to build, but once you’ve done a couple of those, it all makes sense and our kids prefer to create their own now. As we bought 2 sets we are able to combine all the pieces and make some quite long tracks like the video attached. You will find you’ll definitely want more track than just the starter set, so I’d recommend getting some extra track and one of the expansion add-ons too to make it really great. The magnetic cannon is probably the most useful.

My 6 year old and 4 year old spend hours every day playing with gravitrax sets - and seem to only be enjoying it more and more over time (we purchased the first set a full year ago!). Its a bit tricky for the 4 year old to work out how to make a good run, but he loves to watch his brother. Our 6 year old has always been obsessed with contraptions and marbles -- and really enjoys figuring out what works. He recently told us he liked it more than lego because it's easier for him to build more interesting things. I can see why the 8+ age range is appropriate for most kids. The rails are made of plastic, but none have broken yet. You need to set up carefully otherwise the balls fly off the track - but thats the fun part! Beware you might get sucked into adding more and more extensions over time. (The jumper and spiral are the best - the cable car one is the only piece that broke for us).

Its a great bit of kit. Helps kids to learn how to put pieces together and follow instructions. I had my 4 year old helping which he enjoyed. This has the opportunity to let them be creative also. The fun is more in the building than the end result.

Our kids love building and creating, and they love marble runs. Gravitrax keeps them (and my husband!) entertained for HOURS as they design and tweak and race. The starter set is amazing value and gives endless possible creations. They’ve loved it from as young as 7, and it’s something that will grow with them into adulthood as the creations get more complex.

This is quality. The weight of it reminded me of old fashioned games. It has really strong and well constructed pieces, loads of space for creativity and a few course ideas to get you started. It’s well packaged and sturdy and will last and last. It’s great that you can buy add ons and special pieces like trampolines and cannons. This starter set has everything you need to enjoy playing and designing. My daughter loved this so much she spent the rest of her Christmas money buying cool add ons. The add ons seem like good value to me, you get rail pieces, extra balls etc thrown in with the extras. Gravitrax is well worth the money, fun for all ages, educational, durable and creative. We all like playing with this. Give it a go! Makes a great prezzie.

My son (aged 10) got this for his birthday and loves it. Once it was built he spent hours building tracks and reconfiguring tracks. It is a great system. My only complaint is that the tracks are plastic and feel a bit brittle. Almost immediately one piece broke, however, on contacting the manufacturer via their website it turns out they do a free replacement service - completed the online form and a couple of weeks later we received a replacement part, for free, in the post. Well done Ravensburger. The base is made of cardboard so I would advise keeping this game for slightly older kids (ages8+) so that the bits don't get damaged. It isn't cheap but it does provide hours of fun whilst experimenting with design/engineering and physics. We will probably buy more to extend the system.

Grandson loved it but needed to get more bits for it so comes out expensive but they all love it

Bought this for my 8yo. He is enjoying it a lot. He has played with many other marble run toys. He says this is the best so far!

This was a great hit with the grand children. Great little educational piece.

I offered this to my 9 year old granddaughter and she couldn't stop playing with it. She started out following directions, but after about 15 minutes she made her own, more complex designs. I'll get her more of this.

Mein 8-jähriger Sohn kann sich stundenlang damit beschäftigen. Die Teile sind hochwertig und die Anleitung ist leicht nachvollziehbar geschrieben. Er baut die Strecken aus der Anleitung immer wieder nach, nun möchte er natürlich auch mehr Erweiterungen. Nicht billig, aber für die Qualität ist der Preis okay.
