All I've ever used are speedplays, so I don't know any different.

Awful clip in
So I have been a Shimano SPD user for ever but all along been wanting to try these to see if they were even easier to clip in. Well they are awful! Very hard to clip in, you almost have to put your whole weight on the pedal in order to clip in and you have to wiggle and wiggle to find the sweet spot. I thought I was doing something wrong as it shouldn't have to be so hard. So I googled "speedplay hard to clip in" and lo and behold tons of people with same problem. They say to make sure the four screws that holed down the cleats are not over tighten which I checked and checked and checked some more and they weren't . I also lubed the clips as suggest but same thing. I find it silly that they are so difficult. Speedplay needs to evolve and redesign these things so you can adjust the tension like you can with the Shimano pedals. I will definitely not recommend these. Very disappointed. Well at least now I can say I tried them but back to Shimano.8/3/14 Update...So not wanting to give up on these, I decided to put them back on shortly after I took them off. Glad I did. Seem after a period of time they get easier to clip in and you get the hang of things. Still you have to sometimes kind of wiggle your foot to snap in. But now I have them on all my three bikes. On one set the screws on the cleats came lose and almost detached from my shoe. Good thing I was close to home. I re tighten them with some loctight and seems ok. Would have sucked if the cleat came off though while on the road.
