Encyclopaedia Britannica 2014 Ultimate Edition (PC/Mac)

I was unable to complete the installation on two Windows 8-8.1 laptops, it reached approx' 3/4 finished, then no further, tried cancelling it to no avail. I then attempted to uninstall, same problem, computer says incompatible with uninstall, used system restore to rid myself of it. I then got my much older Windows 7, put in the disc, within 10 minutes it had downloaded and ready to use, but I bought this for Windows 8 as had plenty of space for the content. My complaint is it claims it is compatible with Windows 8

This is the third incarnation of the Encyclopaedia Britannica that I have owned on this format, the other two being the 2010 and 2011 versions. Just like their predecessors this disc has the Adult, Teen, and vary young children version. You can either install it onto your computer in its entirety, in which case you won't need to keep the disk in your computer, or you can just install the essentials, but you'll need the disk in the drive when you wish to view any of the media. Obviously the former takes a lot more disk space, about 3.5 GB I think.Easy to navigate with so much information about almost anything you can think of all at your fingertips.If I had one complaint it would be that you can't decide just to install the adult library; I have no need for the teen/child's versions, though these are fantastic if you have young children/teens in your family who wish to use it. Other than that minor thing I love it.

I bought this encyclopaedia for my year 3 and year 6 children. They like it a lot. It's very informative (obviously!) and easy to use. But my year 6 daughter feels there is quite a chasm between the elementary articles and the middle school ones. The former are too easy for her but the latter are significantly more advanced. Maybe it's just the way it is with year sixes.

Bought this for our primary age daughter as a homework research tool. There is a huge amount of information here split into three "libraries". The elementary library is excellent for KS1 & KS2 level work, although a bit Americanised in places. Running well under Windows 8.1 64 bit. As I recall the install hung the first time with a message about a ttf file (as reported by others). I then uninstalled and reinstalled and it has been working without issue ever since. For the small amount of money this is a great tool and can save lots of time and fruitless Google searches. E.g. The elementary entry on "Buddhism" recently provided very clear and concise information which is exactly what was needed for a homework task.

It has not been possible to make it work under windows 7. The product arrived on time and in good packing. I have many attempts to make it start on powerful up-to-date Dell and Vaio laptops without success. The software appears to be fully and correctly loaded, but then it freezes and it is impossible to get beyond the Library Selection window. So it has been impossible for me to use. I have not found help topics to address my situation. So there has been no support from the publisher.

good - helpful, etc.Useless world map - Encarta's world map far better- but still love it.

It would have been great if there had been instructions or an guide which would have been useful to those of us who are elderly and self taught!

I could not get this to work on my mac. On an apple it requires Java 6, but Java six is no longer available. Java have produced a newer version - and this CD will not work with the newer version of Java !
