An exquisite and poignant record
As I have become accustomed to with National Geographic publications, the quality and standard is superlative and difficult to surpass in, both, visual design and written content. This is a book that painstakingly highlights the plight of bears in different regions of the world and loss of their associated and endangered habitat. While it, rightly, highlights these concerns, it remains 'upbeat' in its approach with a positive outlook toward various conservation projects and to ensure measures are implemented to protect these increasingly endangered species. This tome, undoubtedly, does justice to bears [creatures I, personally, have a particular affection for] inasmuch by, rightly, dispensing with myths and by revealing rarely seen behaviours, thereby, increasing empathy for these misunderstood but nevertheless significant and important predators. The poignant passion and concern is conveyed with eloquently written insights and the numerous dangers confronting these majestic creatures, in whichever region they inhabit.Although it most certainly does not detract from the overall content, the only [nit-picking] observation I have made is that some of the print seems to have published in a 'silvery grey' tone on white pages which may make it difficult for some readers and in a certain light [or perhaps lack of it]. Otherwise I can do nothing but highly recommend this wonderful, magnificent and awe-inspiring account of bears, in their natural habitats, the photographs are stunning.

Simply the best bear photography book
Wow. What a wonderful book. I purchased this for my girlfriend (who loves bears), and was a little skeptical.. (I hadn't heard of Paul Nickesn, not many reviews on amazon etc etc), but boy am I glad I found this. Its packed with what must be 100+ gorgeous photos of all kinds of bears - and the shots are terrific. When you live in England, you can't see bears every day, but this book is the next best thing. If you like bears, buy it. Simple.
