The Saga of the Heroic Biltong
I first ordered this product on a lark; having never tried biltong before, I was notably curious as to what it'd be like and tried a pack. The biltong was quite tasty -- the tastiest of the brands I tried -- and it came with a rather lovely handwritten note. Deciding to reward the combination of product and customer service, I promptly ordered another pack. This started a bit of a back-and-forth: I'd get a pack of biltong with a note (usually suggesting that I try the spicy peri-peri flavor despite, unbeknownst to the note's author, my spectacular hatred of spicy food) that made it abundantly clear that the manufacturer was aware and appreciative of my orders. Then came Hurricane Irma. Shortly before Hurricane Irma appeared to be heading directly for my house in Southern Florida, I had placed another of my recurring orders for delicious biltong. Unfortunately, when it appeared apparent that the storm was not going to spare my home, I packed as much into my car as I could, canceled most of my outstanding orders on Amazon, and fled the state. The poor packet of biltong in question, however, had already shipped. When I finally managed to find a hotel with an available room after more than six hours of searching for one on the road, nearly falling asleep at the wheel on countless occasions as I journeyed away from the catastrophic storm, unsure of whether my house would be waiting for me when I returned, Amazon kindly informed me that my order of biltong might be delayed. My response was surprisingly vocal given the time of night and generally involved the negation of fecal matter in somewhat explicit and vulgar terms, echoing my subsequent response to Disney's announcement later in my evacuation that they would be closing their water-parks on the days that the hurricane was expected to pass through. As the packet of biltong was redirected from place to place, I continued to get notices... and I found my attitudes changing. In my panic-driven and sleep-deprived state, my semi-delirious mind couldn't help but anthropomorphize the bag of snack food, imagining it as heroically charging into the storm, trying to reach a destination that might not even be there when it finally arrived, and unknowing that I had already fled and would not be able to enjoy its peppery goodness even if it did manage to get there. I found myself somehow lacking, as if my choice to flee the storm could not stand up to the courage being shown by an inanimate object. Is not one man's prudence another man's cowardace? Does the travel of a pack of biltong not inspire a standard for us mere mortals to live up to? Or perhaps might I really, really need a nap? I eventually rode out the storm in the foothills of South Carolina. As I rested, building up the courage to return, I finally recieved one last notice from Amazon about the delivery: My pack of beefy goodness had finally been delivered, providing me with reasonably conclusive proof that yes, my house was still there to return to... and, when I finally made it back, the tasty, delicious biltong was there awaiting my return, as if to greet me at my (thankfully still-intact) door. I honored its journey in the only way I could: I promptly ate it and placed a new Amazon order for a three-pack. Today, the courageous pack of biltong enjoys a place of honor in my trash-can, and the biltong itself sits within my stomach (or perhaps the commode, given the foibles of the human digestive system). My house is almost entirely intact -- although the less said about the original contents of my fridge, the better -- and the sacrifice of the heroic biltong in helping me not need to immidiately replace said contents will not be forgotten. As for the product itself? Well... Pros: Tasty and flavorful source of protein. Cons: Kinda expensive, and the packs aren't all that large. Also, given that this is a food product, be aware that a major natural disaster of sufficient magnitude to force the governor to evacuate large portions of your state heading directly for your home may cause the delivery to be delayed by a week or two.

DELICIOUS
Iโm South African and grew up with biltong. Iโm actually REALLY impressed with this brand. Reminds me of the quality I had when I was a kid. Brought back happy memories. Delicious!

Poor Quality. Old, tough, and Chewy :(
Okay something is wrong with this order. Kalahari brand biltong is my favorite for being tender and delicious. I have several bags of the garlic flavor that are perfect. I really like the original flavor too, so I bought them and the two bags I have opened are so tough, chewy, and dry. Extremely unpleasant and sad. Not what you expect to get for the price they cost. The bag says the expire in 2028, but I am not convinced.

Freshness
This biltong, when fresh is delicious so much better than beef jerky. However I tried to cancel this order because it took to long, Iโve received this same brand in less than 5 days before, because this order took to long itโs not fresh but this usually is a great brand we can get here in the states. I can not give it 5 stars only because Iโve had the real stuff in SA.

A must try--very good taste, unique and less salty
I tried this based on reviews and curiosity as an avid "normal" beef jerky master maker and eater. I agree with some of the reviews of a slight "earthy" taste but it's in a good way. It has (for me, not the rest of my friends) an odd after-taste that I was unfamiliar with but didn't mind. After my second bite I was all in. I'd give the original 4 and the garlic a 5. It's expensive but based on how it's made, expected. In my opinion, this is a less salty version of jerky with a great taste and should be tried by every jerky enthusiast. Again agreeing with other reviews, it is soft, very thin and a different taste than normal tough jerky. I only eat non-sugar (brown) cured meats and will continue to buy this product. I have not tried other brands but will if the price is right so I can give a comparison.

Should have gotten this sooner.
I had tinkered with buying biltong in the past but really thought I wanted to just keep looking for a clean beef jerky to match my Paleo eating life. Not sure why I finally picked this brand or waited so long but wow, I wish I would have done it much earlier. No, I have no idea what this stuff is "supposed" to taste like or if it is authentic. I'm from Florida by way of Chicago and have seen Kalahari on a map. Arrived early, quality package, nice little hand written note telling me to remember to share. Two bites into the first bag and that note was tough advice to follow. This stuff is very easy to eat, the taste (I had the regular) is just very faintly mustard like but still meaty. Its almost like a less fatty pre-cooked bacon in texture. No grease on your fingers when handling it like the bacon though. My final driver to buy was that yes, this seems a bit pricey, but pairing it with a fresh piece of fruit and a bag of cut carrots and you have a full working / travel lunch for under $8.

Biltong Air Dried Beef - just enough chew to be jerky, but not too much for an achy jaw and headaches
The Biltong Air Dried Beef was recommended to me by a friend. I have always trusted this friend and his recommendations because he knows his stuff. When it comes to air dried beef, he especially knows his stuff. If he knows anything, it's about air dried beef. I'm an avid jerky fan. I eat all types of jerky - beef, wagyu beef, venison, buffalo, turkey, salmon, etc. I often pull off the highway when I see jerky stands in the middle of nowhere because they usually have the best stuff. The store bought packaged stuff is too processed for me. I prefer it fresh. I especially like the long flat jerky pieces you find at gas stations. However, the problem I have with all those jerkys (or is it jerkies?) is they are all so very hard and chewy. I can only eat a few pieces at a time before my jaw inevitably hurts and often leads to a headache. Enter: Biltong Air Drief Beef. Not only is the Biltong a healthier alternative (look at the ingredients and nutritional information - far less sodium and other preservative and additives than the big box competitors) but they've nailed the consistency. It's got just enough chew to be jerky but not too much to cause jaw pain and headaches. This means you can eat more of it at a time and without worry about the ingredients because, as mentioned above, it's far healthier than the competitors. Bottom line is, I'll keep ordering this stuff and recommending it to others. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Luck of the Draw
Ordered Double, with 6 bags in each set .... Half the bags were 5 star quality, lean, barely any fat, non greasy, easy to chew ... Delicious .... Perfect ingredients .... NO Sugar, which is the best news! ... Met total expectation Other half the bags weighed less on lean meat .... Greasy on hands, pure fat chunked edges .... Gristle .... Undesirable for consumption .... Let down ... Poor product Dimensions: BAG: 9 x 7 inches .... 2 ounces (Bag is oversized to what it needs to be) So how to effectively rate this product is a hard decision ... Not my first order, as I had previously been pleased .... Even with the drier crumbly pieces I don't mind .... Way better than the fatty laden ones, oozing oil Expensive when you grab the yuck bags .... If quality had been consistent with my first order, it would be 5 stars .... Not cheap in price, so I expected much better in all 12 bags ... They average out to over $7 a bag .... Tough to send back, as the next 4 are possibly good ... or nasty .... No way to tell until opened .... and you can see right away if they are drowning in fat, but not gristle until tried to chew .
