Q: what is it made of? what material?

This material is proprietary, as we are the originators of the PoolArt concept since 1995. You would think it is similar to a rubber mat and is heavier than water so therefore it sinks to the bottom of the pool. I hope this info helps.

Q: Does the mat stay in place regardless of the motion of the water?

Yes, the mat stays in place unless the pool cleaner catches it just right to dislodge it. This happened to us only one time, and we've had the mat for months now. We love it!

Q: Our pool is fiberglass will it stick to the bottom - is it only for concrete pools?

It is a mat, it does not stick to your pool, just lay it on the flat part of the pool. The fiberglass may be too slick for it unless it is completely flat.

Q: is 47" measurement the circumfrence or the diameter of the mat? i imagine it is the circumfrence

47" is diameter! It looks wonderful in the bottom of our pool
