Deserves to be remastered for CD
BMG does a disservice to this unique artist by not remastering this for digital media. The sound is thin with a very narrow frequency range. Shame on BMG.

Jim Croce's masterful outside the box debut LP
This was our first introduction to the music of Jim Croce for many of us, myself included. Great single, fine album, an auspicious beginning to an important -- and all too brief -- career. A masterful songwriter and storyteller from the get-go, the album and Jim himself, remain singer / songwriter touchstones. Highly recommended.

Sounds Just Like the Vinyl Did 40 Years Ago
This is not an audiophile's review; just an average listener's. I can't speak to the engineering of the recording. There were no obvious flaws in the recording. It sounds just like the vinyl album from 40 years ago. This is my favorite of Croce's albums.Maury Muchleisen's guitar is the thing that mesmerizes us in "Time in a Bottle" and my favorite, "Photographs and Memories." I won't list all the tunes, because they are just as given in the Amazon listing and as the original album, in the same order on the CD. And at $3.99, you can't get a better value. The CD came in a standard jewel box. The liner includes the lyrics of the tunes, but does not cite credits for the other musicians. There are no other notes either (history, etc.).

Jim Croce, The Musician
"You Don't Mess Around With Jim", Croce's 1972 debut, could easily pass for a greatest hits album from the late, great Jim Croce, climbing to no#1 on the charts - this album is simply almost perfect, featuring the classic songs, "Tommorrow's Gonna Be A Brighter day", "Photographs And Memories", "Walkin' Back To Georgia", "New York's Not My Home", "Operator (that's not the way it feels)", and the timeless "Time In A Bottle", plus countless others on here that reveal the great singer-songwriter as Jim Croce really was, a true-blue musician who enjoyed what he was doing. This expanded edition includes the original album and never before released tracks on the first side, along with a second disc featuring more classic Croce, including wife Ingrid on half of the songs. "You Don't Mess Around With Jim" is worth the price of admission alone on this import with excellent remastered sound. (keep in mind that only this Castle import from England includes two disc with extra tracks.)

Great record, with an unfortunate "LOUDNESS" problem on the CD.
Wonderful album, but why must it be mastered so damn LOUD!?! Well, i know the answer to this but I just wanted to at least warn some possible buyers that while the sound itself is good, the overt volume/compression of the disc is way high and unacceptable for those who appreciate some dynamic range. Obviously these things sound okay on headphones or maybe in the car, but if you have any desire to play the music on a decent stereo (with natural power) or if you'd appreciate being able to hold a conversation with your wife while you're cook dinner with this Cd on even a lower volume, just forget it. It just ain't right to have to yell a question over Jim Croce music.Good thing the price is so low, or I would've returned it.So 4.5 or 5 stars for the album and 1.5 to 2 for the overt compression and loudness.'Nuff said.Marc

Do you have Life and times
Was waiting for this cd for a long time. And I mean that in a good way. Croce was the best. Wish he was still with us

Another well kept secret
This guy should be huge. 3 official albums and a talent tragically taken way too early. Classic early '70's singer songwriter with some really tender love songs and some rowdy singalongs thrown in. Nothing flashy just quality. Simple production, straight forward playing, great songs.First introduced to JC as a teenager, and for nearly 40 years these songs have been my come back to old friends.Second cd of home recordings shows that these songs work well in an acoustic pared back setting.

Not one bad song on here.
Every song on this record is incredible. So sad to think what he was on the brink of achieving before he left us aged only 30. An amazing, soulful person.
