Maxone 1TB Ultra Slim Portable External Hard Drive HDD USB 3.0 Compatible

When I first bought a new laptop a few years ago, 237 GB of hard drive seemed like it would last forever. It wasn't until recent times when trying to install my latest purchase of Far Cry 6 only to discover it required a whopping 60GB of memory and the available space on the current internal hard drive was but a sliver in comparison. Even after deleting or uninstalling everything I truly didn't need, it still was not enough (Windows 10 itself is a memory hog), thus I had little choice except to buy a new computer or install a larger hard drive. A new laptop was economically out, especially when the current one was still running fine and I did not want to have to deal with installing another internal drive given the difficulty of placing one in even the larger confines of a desktop I had experienced years back. So, finding out external hard drives had now shrunk to a size where they wouldn't take up too much space on a desk and actually be portable, I purchase the Maxone Ultra Slim Portable and so far, I've not been disappointed. At about 4 1/2" in length and 3 1/2" in width, the Maxone is definitely svelte and very unobtrusive next to the computer itself (though I keep it behind it). It is simple plug and play and connects to any available USB port with a standard cable (though one came with it). At about 18" the supplied cable is kind of short, but seeing as how one will likely have the drive close to the computer, that is not really an issue and as stated, any similar, longer cords would work just as well. It is small enough that I can fit it into my laptop case with both the computer and mouse if I need to access something on the external drive away from home. Installing said video game took almost the better part of the day, but I think it had more to do with the size of the program, as well as the Steam download speed and less to do with the hard drive itself. I imagine transferring standard files, like photos and such, should prove to be faster, but so far, I've only used the Maxone for the game as I still have room for everything else on the computer itself. The game ran fine on the Maxone and didn't crash once during the several weeks off and on it took me to complete it. Overall, I am satisfied with it and the value for the additional amount of memory. I will likely reserve the Maxone for downloaded games as until Moore's Law catches up with programs and gaming graphics, it will likely be enough additional memory for my needs or at least until the graphics card in the laptop itself can no longer run the latest games. Though I may also eventually use it to back up some important files as failing to do so in the past was a tragic lesson I do not wish to repeat and thus, the Maxone would also be good for redundancy storage and I may eventually purchase another one for just that purpose exclusively.

No bs, this external ssd is perfecttttt for someone like me–who needs a lot of space free like this amount–works from home, plays a lot of games [mostly ts4 with mods & cc], and has college work!! It’s not hard to understand how to setup nor use at all, especially as someone who learns how to use things like this from tutorials lmao, and i’ve taken it pretty much everywhere that my laptop goes. I would definitely buy another one of these if i needed it 🙏🏾

Filled this up with Anime, TV and Movies, got about 60gigs left and it's been about a month. It's doin the thing well, I'm happy with it. The plastic on the edges does seem fragile, but I could care less about that. Only gripe is that it ends up only being 465gb to use. Edit: it's now Feb 25th, almost half a year of use, I've removed and added plenty, it's put through daily almost all day every day use and I have yet to have an issue, plan on getting a second 1tb and just keeping this one for just anime, great buy and a great price! Definitely been recommending this to people. Edit: it's now August 26th, I have noticed some videos not playing like they used to, this may be due to getting a second one and having them both plugged in and running and the same time (my laptop isn't the best) other than that all files are still there, they still play (though some Mkv files seem to have more artifacts, this could just be my laptop though) Feb 14th 2020, final edit: still works fine, no complaints. May 5th 2022, finalfinal edit: it's been years and years and it still works. Sept 18th 2022; I bought a second one, the first one still works, I just wanted one for my extended storage on the PlayStation.

Was awesome at first I was using it on my pi via a self powered hub, as a repo backup/cold storage. It worked fine at that, but I've logged 3 drive failures in the past 10 hours (all minor and corrected by the Pi automatically) after checking the logs on the pi. Still if you just want a drive to store photos on it works amazing. Solid little drive just can't quite keep up with non consumer needs. On paper they claimed it could so that's why it gets 4 stars. In all fairness to them I'm asking ALOT out of it there's a reason high endurance storage is a thing.

This little drive is great! So compact, quiet, fast, and super reasonably priced, in my opinion. I'll gladly get more of them at some point, as they're good to have on-hand!

First, the drive itself works great. Super easy to set up. You just plug it in and you are ready to go. You can drag and drop whatever files and folders you want. HOWEVER, if you are an Apple user and use the Time Machine feature to backup your computer, it will change the formatting of the drive that will NOT allow you to read and write to the drive. If there is a way around this, I could not find it after searching the internet high and low. Even Apple Support could not figure out why the formatting changes with using the Time Machine backup feature. The only way to then get the drive back to read and write, and by read and write I am referring to the permissions of the drive, you need to format the drive, thus completely erasing it. For reference, I am using a MacBook Pro running MacOS Ventura. I ended up purchasing another external drive so I could back up my files BEFORE formatting my drive to confirm that it is Time Machine that changes the formatting of the drive automatically when you run a backup. Once the formatting is changed, you cannot change the permissions to allow you to read and write to the drive. Without this capability you cannot drag and drop files onto the drive, you cannot delete or add files, it is read only which if that is ok for you then you can use Time Machine as often as you'd like. Just know that once your computer storage is full, Time Machine will not be able to run a full backup onto your drive. Which would then force you to purchase another drive because then your drive will be too full to even accept the backup. I hope I am making sense lol. With the Time Machine backup you do have the ability to exclude certain files when backing up your computer but I would rather have the ability to customize what items go onto my drive instead of backing up my entire computer. Apr 1, 2023 11:26 AM I purchased the Maxone 500GB drive and once I put important data on the drive no longer shows the blue led light, which the computer will not read the drive anymore. I tried it on two other computers and it will not read it anymore. I do not want to send this drive back because of the personal data it has on it. I can send you and video showing you the drive don't work anymore, but I am asking from a customer stand point to replace the drive with another. But again I do not want to send the broken drive back to you with this data on it, I prefer to destroy the drive totally. Apr 1, 2023 9:59 PM Hello, Sorry for the inconvenience. We recommend that you try to use the drive on another computer or laptop to see if the drive is working properly. Or, please check whether the USB interface of the computer is in poor contact or damaged. You can use other storage devices to check. Regarding the problem of unrecognition, it may also be the insufficient power supply of the hard disk. Normal computers (mainly desktop computers) have many sockets. Including the front USB socket and the rear USB socket. In many cases, after inserting the hard disk into the front USB interface, the hard disk cannot be read. This is because generally the front socket has a lower power supply voltage than the rear socket. You can replace the hard disk data cable with a USB port on the back of the computer. If there are two data cable plugs, insert both plugs. If you still cannot work normally after trying the above methods, You can apply directly to Amazon for a replacement service, and your order is still available within 30 days. Under Disk Management it is labeled (DISK Unknown, Not Initialized). I can hear the drive spinning, but the blue light doesn’t appear like before, tried two other cable end to this Maxone drive and still no help. I tried to pull the data off this drive with software and it would not work for me, I attempted to Initialize the disk, even tried to rebuild, etc. nothing seems to work. I have a lot of personal data on this drive and do not want to send it back to you, I prefer to destroy the drive myself. I can send you back all the pieces after destruction if that's an option. I am not trying to lose any more money on your product, I even brought third party software to try and delete the data and still that didn't work. So, I am losing more money on my end. **update 12/10/24**. The port isn't smooth to plug into and unplug from. It's a bit rough and after a few times using it, the port came loose. It is not flush with the case like other major brands. It now has a connection problem and my files might be gone because the poor workmanship. Once i can get my files off, I'm sending this hunk of junk back. The outer case seems durable...but that port makes the whole thing a pile of garbage. You really DO get what you pay for. ************************ I was a little apprehensive about buying this. I had never heard of the brand before but then I found an article that listed this brand as one of the top ones. Price was right so I bought it. Honestly, it has, thus far, exceeded my expectations. What impressed me first was the casing. This, by FAR, surpasses the other leading brands (WD, for example) for protection. It's very sturdy, IMO. I formatted it for my Mac and I was ready to go! I use it as a drag and drop for files I want easy access to and separate from the Time Machine backups, but I am going to purchase ANOTHER one to use with Time Machine as the one I have now is a WD and it's flimsy as hell. I've had this first one for 2 weeks and have had no issues yet!
