Simple setup. Plug and play.
Working flawlessly. Doing what it does, managing the data traffic. I'm happy with it.

Great for the price, VLAN tagging and Trunk works splendit
First off, I like the Zyxel products. I have 2 of these and one GS1600 and GS2400 all manages. I run 4 VLANs and use Trunking bwrween all of them and it works flawlesly. The only reason I gave 4 stars is the setup. I noticed the initial setup with Chrome does not function. Same with Firefox. I ended up using the new Windows 10 browser (don't remeber the name, I'm mainly using Linux or Mac) or Opra - yes it still exists. I also had to reset it twice, though I am not sure it helped at all. I noticed when the browser does show a screen of the 90's (no images, white background and a 1st grader login screen) it won't work. Once I got logged in the first time though and changed the password all browser issues went away. This is something QA should have found and it happenes with both systems. Others complain with VLAN 1. I noticed all Zyxels I worked with run management on VLAN 1, if you remove it, reset the system if you ever want ro reconfigure it. But hey that's fine. Other than that I like it, I recommend it, especually for the price. I would have loved a differend color scheme though, not silver. Oh and what I forgot, I don't like is the password only allows a-zA-Z0-9. That ruins a bit my sysadmin passwords.

Easy to get a multi-VLAN trunk set up, but remember...
This is a great little set-and-forget switch to extend a trunk on an existing SOHO network. I used it to terminate a MoCA link (Ethernet-over-Coax). For IEEE 802.1q trunking and general security, remember the following: 1. For the trunk port, make sure each in-use VLAN is set to "Tag Egress Member" which will presumably match your upstream switch (tagging for in-use VLANs is a best practice and only VLAN one can be untagged on a trunk anyway). 2. For access ports, make sure the VLAN is set to "Untag Egress Member" 3. REMEMBER: On access ports to make the PVID number match the VLAN number or else the access port *will not* function. 4. For defense against VLAN-hopping attacks I disabled the default-untagged VLAN 1 on the upstream switch trunk interface. For ~$30 this is a lot of capability.

Nice price for advanced switching features
There are some compromises to advanced features that I would pay more to see fixed. But given that those advanced features are likely limited by available single IC solution and that those features have normally been available in few switches costing less than $600-$2000 in prior years...but I would like to see the VLAN and trunk aggregation features fully implemented without port and VLAN range restrictions in the near future. I give this a best affordable current solution for today's SOHO and personal home networks. Helps with management and security in small environments experiencing more and more computers with great diversity of networking needs (gaming machines, webservers, NAS, 3D printers with little built in security, etc)

Easy to configure, works perfectly, a great value
I sent back a managed 4 port more than double the price. This unit arrives, the packaging is simple and efficient, it's well made, comes with a wall wart ps and everything worked when I plugged it in. I immediately logged in to the console, it came right up, checked all the settings, changed the password, updated the firmware and done! For the price there's nothing I know of that beats this. And from a security standpoint, as a $20 upgrade to a passive switch, it's perfect.

Stopped Working
When I received the item, I plugged it in and tested it. Everything worked fine. I was able to login. I was able to set the private network address. 1 month later I bought a brand new modem. I plugged it into the switch, and it stopped allowing me to login to the internal firmware which is used to configure the network address. It also would only display the unmasked IP address of the modem, so all DHCP capability was disabled. This happened on the exact day my return window ended on Amazon. When I called the manufacturer, they wanted me to pay to send them the product for a replacement, so I threw it out and told them I will never support this brand again. I also apologized to the representative and told him it was nothing personal against him. I have not purchased a Zyxel product in over 20 years, and I remember why now. This is very poor quality control. Even resetting the firmware doesn’t fix the problem. Coincidentally, the reset button is crooked and doesn’t align with the access hole properly. Either there was a flaw in the security of the product or the firmware is written terribly. It can only be reset! There’s no access port like a USB on it. Nothing I did should have bricked it, and the support is terrible.

Beware: only useful in VERY limited set of circumstances!
Ok, you need to expect $20 of a value from this $20 switch as a lot of options aren't working as you will quickly find: 1. Switch doesn't implement IEEE 802.3ad (LAG) properly (it will not work with some devices) 2. The management is HARDCODED to VID 1 and the support said on official forum that "Currently, GS1200 hasn't plan to allow to change its Management VID 1." 3. A trunk port cannot work with untagged traffic which is a huge problem combined with #2 4. The device sends frames tagged with VID 1 (instead of treating VID 1 as untagged) making it incompatible with e.g. MikroTik hardware. In essence a simple configuration where you use port 1 as trunk & management with ports 2-5 as access ports will NOT work on this switch. If you set port 1 as trunk and attempt to add ANY "egress untag" to it the port lands in some unknown state where groups for other VLANs aren't respected. If all VLANs are set for port 1 as tagged or "not participating" the switch will work BUT the management interface will not be available through that port. Bottom line is the switch is ok-ish... but it's missing crucial features. If you're looking for something cheap and full-fledged look for MikroTik RB260GS (MSRP $39).
