Convenient, simple, long battery life
I got this light because it uses batteries, NOT usb charging. I occasionally visit places without electricity (or convenient outlets even if they do have it), and can stock up on batteries for long power outages. Relying on usb charging would be silly if thinking about prepping. The CR123 battery gives 40 lumens for 14 hours and 350 lumens for 1 1/2 hrs. I've used mine for three weeks, just briefly each day bringing in firewood from the shed or checking the shop, and on a 5 day trip to a monastery in the mountains with no electricity where I used it more heavily in the early mornings and evenings. Still on the first CR123 battery. The lithium AA battery gives the same 40 lumens for the same 14 hours and 150 for 4 1/2 hours. 40 lumens is plenty for most of my uses but when I need more light, 350 is significantly more power. This light is small enough that I keep it clipped in my back pocket all day every day and it's not noticeable. It comes with low, blinking, and high settings, but you can change that easily, which I did, to get rid of the blinking and just have low and high, which are easily accessed: one click for low, one flash (not click) on and off and back on again for high. I think this is the best general use EDC flashlight I've ever had and I intend to get get a couple more to have around and as gifts. [edit] After another month of steady use of the Streamlight ProTac 1L-1AA, I *highly* recommend this light. It's small enough to be conveniently carried clipped in the back pocket, powerful enough (low and high) to be useful in almost all situations, simple enough to adjust to settings that are most useful, and long-lasting enough to be extremely thrifty, AND it doesn't rely on the electrical grid but takes batteries (CR123, AA lithium, or AA alkaline) which are easy to carry as backup and last a LONG time with normal use. I've been using this light for almost two month, just brief use each day and am still on the first battery. It's shockproof and waterproof (or highly water-resistant), has a great cap clip (I use that feature all the time and it works beautifully as it's not too heavy for a ball cap), and the on-off clicker on the end-cap requires just the right pressure, unlike others I've had. This is easily the best ECS light I've ever had. Did I say that before? I should have said it in caps. Did I also mention that I highly recommend it? Yeah, I do. You will not regret getting this light. Streamlight Protac 1L-1AA

Absolutely Phenomenal.
This is a great light. It is competitively priced and is a nice size for pocket carry in men's jeans. I wear a slimmer cut pants (not skinny jeans lol) and there is no noticeable bulge in my pocket. The unboxing experience was plesant. Packaging was about standard, and was well put together. The light came with 1 CR123A (more about this later), 1 AA, the light (duh?), a pouch, and a wrist strap. I pocket carry this light only so I haven't used the pouch yet but it could be useful for storing things in and seems to be of good quality. Pros: Quite bright, with a nice balance between distance and width. The light can easily reach 200 ft or so while having a wide enough beam to provide good peripheral visibility. Durable (so far). I have already dropped it several times on concrete and other than a few scratches it works like a champ, although I expected this. The hat clip feature is useful. It is worth noting that the part of the clip contacting the bill of the hat is rounded over so it won't damage the front edge of the hat. Nice touch! The pocket clip is nice and sturdy, and I haven't had any issues with it sliding around or falling out throughout the day. The feature to be able to use AA batteries is awesome. I prefer to use a CR123A in order to achieve the full brightness, however it is very nice to have the option should I not have any CR123As on hand or if I don't feel like wasting the more expensive battery on a less demanding task. I imagine this feature would be very nice while camping or doing other things as AAs are far more prevalent and cheaper than CR123As. The tail switch is extremely easy to actuate while not turning on in my pocket easily. Strobe is also very easy to actuate (double tap). The end of the flashlight, near the bezel, is flattened on several sides so the light won't easily roll around. This is a nice detail. The lens and the glass (I believe it is acrylic of some sort) is recessed which is nice as it won't scratch or become damaged as easily. Cons: I would have liked for the pocket clip to carry a little further down in my pockets, as almost the entire screw on tail-cap portion sticks out. Although as long as you don't care about it being super concealed (it is just a flashlight after all) I can usually just tuck my shirt over it and it isn't much of an issue. I wish there was a way to possibly program the light to go High > Low > Strobe by single, double, and triple tapping. Currently, it is setup as High > Strobe > Low, and I find that I have to press it up against my clothing while actuating because the strobe function will turn on momentarily while switching to low which is quite blinding, especially when you need a lower amount of lumens to begin with. Not really a con, but the battery that came with the flashlight died very quickly, within the span of 1 week with not much use. However, I ordered a pack of 2 CR123As with the flashlight and the battery life of those are much improved. I have had the same battery in for about a month now with with moderate use and have had almost no visible reduction in lumens. Both of these cons are more nitpicks than anything. I very much enjoy this light, and can't wait to see how it holds up over time.

Small light, Big impact.
Love this light. Takes multiple batteries so if I get to recharge my CR123's or use the fresh ones for my weapon lights, it will take the alternative battery. I keep plenty of those disposable in my Range Bag. Perfect fit in the pocket, and great size in the hand. Tailcap button is programmable for function and easy to use. Don't really use the forward style portion of the clip (hat mount), but everything about it is spot on for the price.

This flashlight should be your EDC
This is my EDC flashlight, bar none. Small enough to carry in a front pocket or as I often carry it, clipped inside the pocket of my cargo pants. The hat clip is indispensable for providing hands free illumination on the go. It has literally replaced my usual headlamps for hands free lighting. This flashlight's greatest strength is that it takes disposable CR123A or AA batteries. In the past I bought numerous rechargeable LED lights but have come to find out they are limiting in their usefulness. If you are out and about and the light dies on you, you are stuck until you have time to wait for a recharge, if you even have a place to recharge it. And rechargeable batteries are always low or drained out when you need them most. During hurricane Helene we were without power for 4 days, and I used it constantly to see my way around a darkened house clipped to the brim of my hat. I only needed to carry a spare battery in my pocket. When the battery ran down I had it back up and running in the time it takes to swap out the old one. While AA batteries only work on the lower lumens level, you can find AA batteries everywhere, and everyone has them, so your light will always have power when you need it. Talk about versatility. You can reprogram the light so it comes on low first, then bright on the second click, which is what I did. The lower lumens setting provides longer battery life and plenty of illumination for most purposes and I don't have to double tap to get it to low every time I turn it on. Perfect. Given the size, the availability of replaceable batteries (a must for me now), its durability, clip utility and 10 tap programmability, this would have been the exact flashlight I would have designed if someone gave me a clean slate to work with. I never leave the house without it.

Decent flashlight
Seems OK. Not super impressed but I guess it will do in a pinch which is why I bought it in the first place. Quality seems ok, size is adequate for its intended purpose. Also I am not old on rechargeable lights with USB ports which was one deciding factor.

Great every day carry light
This is my third Streamlight Protac 1L-AA light in the last 5-6 years. All provided very good service in every day carry. First two were still functional when retired but looked terrible so they were given away. Not much to say other than the ability to use CR123 or AA batteries makes for easy to find battery replacement. Switch is well made, the pocket clip works well. Not sure what else to discuss, the LED bulb throws a decent amount of light especially with CR123 battery. My go to every day carry flashlight

Duel Fuel is the way to go!
I purchased this light 3 years ago and it does everything i wanted/needed it to do. I purchased this light as i was looking for an EDC light with options for battery use. I've carried other models of lights that used only CR123's and that gets expensive after a while. But this light gives you options between AA and CR123, i've used Lithium and Alkaline AA's with no issues so far. Sizing on this light even though it takes only 1 AA or 1 CR123 is on the larger side for a single cell but i believe thats to accommodate both cell sizes, So be aware of that when purchasing this light. It throws a decent distance but it does get washed out in brighter light while using a AA cell but using a CR123 will make it better. AA vs CR123 as far as battery life, the AA does last longer as it doesn't use as much power when using a Alkaline cell AA. With a Lithium Cell it definitely improves the throw and brightness of the light. This applies for both AA (L) and CR123 Lithium cells, but longevity is edged out by the AA (L) as continuous use with CR123 burns through the juice, while with a AA (L) it'll burn through it but then take down the lumens to give a usable light in darker situations but not in lighted darkness situations. With Alkaline AA cells its mid, mid throw, mid power BUT most battery power as it goes from mid level lumens down to low level lumens and will run like that for a good long time. I've literally left the light on low for a week or more in the low settings just to drain out all the juice from an alkaline cell before i changed to a fresh battery. I've beaten this light up, dropped it, lost it in the snow, fell into a river with it, dropped it off a moving car (not on purpose) and it continues to work with no issues. Streamlight makes an excellent product just as good as Surefire in my opinion but for about half the price. I highly recommend this light for any and all use cases especially with the duel cell (AA & CR123) ability.

Duel fuel? More like 5 fuels!!
Update 5/2021. Still using all kinds of batteries in the light and it works fine. I have carried other lights that I have grown to prefer, but this little guy keeps popping into the rotation every once in a while. ******* This is a great light for several reasons. I keep one in all the cars with a cr123 in them for emergency needs. They just work when you need them. Nice and small, also carry one on me or in my briefcase. It takes at least 5 different types of battery that I have found so far. I know that streamlight specifically states not to use Rcr123a rechargeables, but they work fine. Even better is that it runs on 14500 batteries. Now you do lose the low brightness when using rechargeables, it’s more like bright and slightly less bright. Strobe still works fine. But it is brighter than using cr123s for sure. I’ve done some pretty extensive testing with this and have run into no reliability issues yet. So you can run off 1AA, 1AAA, Cr123, Rcr123a, and 14500. In my testing a 800Mah 14500 will run bright for about an hour. Then it will diminish from about 280 lumens to about 50 lumens (as unscientificly measured against other flashlights of known lumen output) over the next 30 minutes. I stop testing at 1.5 hours, but expect it would just continue to dim and probably give you another 15-30 minutes of useable light. The light gets just as warm as it does with a Cr123 and then cools as the lumens decrease. The best part is that as compared to my Streamlight 2L-X it has slightly better throw. The 2L-X most likely still puts out more lumens, but it is hard to tell in the dark. They look nearly identical. This light just throws slightly farther and still has great spill. This light is nice and small and the clip is perfect for a hat brim or a pocket. The emitter is a bit more neutral white, but still a cooler color. Certainly not as yellow as a zebra headlamp in neutral. It is a nice bright neutralish cool white. I suspect streamlight doesn’t advertise the battery capability because they want to keep selling their Cr123 batteries. That or what I’m doing will kill the emitter quicker. Maybe both. Regardless, I have a bunch of these little lights as they have become my favorite. Stash them with Cr123s for emergencies, EDC/ use with a 14500 and carry a Cr123 as a back up. I’ve had luck with this but don’t recommend it since you “could” fry your light. Hasn't happened to me yet. But just to be safe....

Very happy with my purchase
Great torch. Very happy with it. I chose it for the reversible clip (can be cap-mounted; handy when taking it camping, or helmet mounting), and the amount of light it can put out. I'm a structural engineer so a solidly built flashlight is handy on site; I wanted something that can illuminate structure from a decent distance but still fit in my pocket. It's support of two different battery sizes is a really nice feature too; the CR123A batter will pump out more light, but it'll also take a AA battery which you can pick up anywhere. And you can program it to default to full-power, or a reduced power (usually you only need the lower setting, saving on battery). So far it does everything it says on the box. Very happy.

Small, compact and powerful.
Used daily. Always works. Have traveled in planes with it multiple times. High beam small enough for hand held. This is an amazing product you end up using it often. Plus if you do get into an altercation, your all good 😉
