So Much Hope... So Disappointed...
Where to start...This is my third attempt to purchase a wireless speaker system to replace a 15 year old JBL system that has served me well but has driven me mildly insane with the static and popping! My first 2 attempts involved buying systems at considerably lower price points ($100) and the result was predictable. When I saw this system I was suspiciously optimistic but at a $300 price point one would expect a high degree of quality and maybe a suitable replacement so my ancient JBLs can finally spend their golden years in a dark and dusty corner of a closet. So Much Hope...So Disappointed...First indicator that this was 'not the system I was looking for' was the first thing I saw in the box- the instruction booklet that arrived with both the speakers and the transmitter looked as if a drunk 3 year old was given scissors and directed to cut up the booklet. No effort whatsoever was made to make the language/instructions 'flow' or have any graphics... or color... anything to make me believe that more than a passing thought was given to produce such a crucial introduction to this product - so much these days is in a first impression- a simple thing like a crappaly produced instruction booklet tells so much...The speakers and transmitter arrived in 2 separate packages and were undamaged. The set up was pretty easy/straightforward as I have used a similar system for decades. Within 5 minutes of set up I knew this system was done- with less than 35' of separation between the transmitter and the speakers (which were placed in 2 separate locations with 2 to 3 walls between the transmitter and speakers- wall construction of drywall and wood) the speakers would pair to the transmitter but the music would continue to cut out every other second. I tried every conceivable setting adjustment between the speaker, transmitter level and source level- all to no avail. I tried switching the speakers. I tried switching the power source. The system is working correctly- it just lacks the ability to broadcast adequately to the speakers. The inadequacy may be driven by interference from other 2.4Ghz devices in the area (I live in a condo festooned with the trappings of modern living to include but not limited to wireless routers, baby monitors, wireless phones and the like... I could go door-to-door and attempt to confiscate these items from my neighbors but feel bad audio is preferable to a gunshot wound.) I'm not terribly concerned about the interference- at this price point I expect a well-engineered system working on a frequency not requiring monastic living with excellent sound quality (the sound quality was far from great- I would place it as acceptable at best- in the few instances that the pairing held). A note included in one of the boxes mentioned that the manufacturer is not responsible for outside interference from other devices. Yes, manufacturer, you are. You are responsible for designing a system that works in the real-world environment which includes a great deal of signal interference (for those that live in a huge, undeveloped kingdom without radio-wave transmitting devices enclosed under a huge lead dome that prevents any radio wave intrusion, this may not apply to you.)Build quality- well its all plastic... not the slightest hint of wood or any material that would commonly be used in an acoustically true speaker box.So the ancient JBLs will have to continue their pop-tastic performance. The Amphony system is already back in the box and I will have the joy of lugging it to a UPS store down the road and paying to return it- one of the notes the drunk 3 year old placed in the box mentions that I should contact them directly concerning returns vice going through Amazon - I'll update this review on how that experience turns out- I'm always a fan of getting to meet 'Jim' from 'Indiana' aka North Bombay who has never seen this particular system in person before but will still feel the need to walk me through such technical procedures as plugging the unit in and will want to know if I can just keep the speakers next to the transmitter with a lead blanket over them...)It's the 23rd of Decemeber...Thanks Amphony... Your craptastic system has given a Christmas reprieve to a very old and war-hardened pair of JBLs!!!Update 16JAN14- Jeff, the US Rep for Amphony was quick to respond to my phone message and facilitated a full refund (I did have to pay to ship the items back). This speaker system did not work for me but my dealings with Jeff were very pleasant and professional. While I can't recommend this system it was appreciated that Jeff was easy to deal with!

A lot less expensive than Sonos
I was looking for some decent wireless speakers for my home. I was originally planning to purchase a Sonos kit but then decided to go with the Amphony iFinity speaker system. I am glad that I did and here is why:1) The least expensive Sonos speaker costs $199 each and thus 2 speakers plus a bridge would have cost me $450. The Amphony comes with 2 speakers and a transmitter and I got is for less than $300.2) Note that I did test the Sonos at a friend's house before I got the Amphony. He has the Play:3 speaker which is quite a bit more expensive than the Play:1. I found the sound quality of the Amphony speakers to match if the Sonos speaker and even be slightly crisper than the Sonos. Both the Sonos and the Amphony speakers have digital amps for each driver and an active crossover. I would compare the Amphony speakers in terms of size and wattage to the Sonos Play:5 speakers. Mind you the Play 5 speakers cost $400 each so I would have to fork out over $800 for the pair. I haven't compared the sound qualty of the Amphony to the Play:5 but I don't think that the Play:5 would surpass the Amphony so much to make it worth spending 3 times the amount of money.3) I can take the Amphony speakers outside my house and won't have to worry that a slight rain shower will damage the speakers. The speakers are fairly massive and are made to be rain resistant. I wouldn't recommend leaving them in the rain permanently but nonetheless they give me piece of mind.4) The Amphony transmitter unlike the Sonos bridge can take pretty much any audio input, not just streaming audio. To play music from my iPhone, I can just dock it in the cradle of the transmitter without having to buy a separate dock from Sonos. While the transmitter looks like a dedicated iPod dock, it does accept audio from any source and even amplified speaker outputs which I like.5) I found the range of the transmitter unit to be very good. It has no problem sending the audio from my basement to my atic through several walls. I don't think that it can match the range of the Sonos but in my opinion the transmitter range is more than adequate for a single house. Also, the speakers aren't affected by my wireless network.6) The Amphony speakers are plug and play. Unlike Sonos, I don't have to fiddle with all kinds of network settings. Just plug in the transmitter and speakers, push a pairing button and out comes the music. The speakers also have controls to adjust the sound.7) Amphony specifies these speakers to deliver 80 Watts of music. I have no way of objectively verifying this claim but in my opinion this spec is probably true. They do get REALLY loud. Loud enough to disturb my neighbors. I think that is a big plus if I was to use them outside the house given the amount of noise outside.During my research I also found another company: Soundcast which makes similar outdoor speakers but their least expensive speaker sells for more than $600 a piece. So everything considered the Amphony is my clear favorite. In fact I am planning to buy another set next summer.
