Good capacity, fast heating
I had a Bonavita 1.0 liter kettle for a couple of years and used it to make Aeropress coffee every morning for my wife and me. The Bonavita holds enough water to make coffee for 2 travel-size insulated coffee cups with a little left over, and that has been working fine. When family comes to visit, though, I find that I need just a bit more capacity than the Bonavita has. Enter the Doctor Hetzner electric kettle. This kettle has a nice gooseneck spout, variable temperature control and a larger capacity than the Bonavita. Inside both kettles is a line showing the maximum water level: exceed the level on the Bonavita and you end up with hot water bubbling out of the top of the kettle. I have found that the Doctor Hetzner kettle allows me to fill above the max line and, unless I have the water level very close to the top, it does not boil over and onto the counter. I can put in enough water to make 3 travel-size travel mugs of coffee with a single fill of this kettle.Besides having more capacity than my old kettle, this one has a couple of nice extra features. First, you can set the desired temperature of the water from room temperature to boiling. Setting it to room temperature is not very useful, but you can do it if you want. The old kettle would shut itself off when the water reached the boiling point, and according to the coffee experts I know, that’s too hot for the perfect cup of coffee. I can set the temperature on this new kettle to 195 degrees F (or you can get the equivalent in degrees C by changing the units displayed) and the kettle beeps and turns off the heating element at 195.Second, if I use less than the full amount of water from the kettle, I can turn the kettle on and have it hold a pre-set temperature. That way, if someone wants hot water a little later, they don’t need to wait for it to get to the pre-set temperature.I was curious about the difference in time that it takes each one to heat water, so I did this test. I filled the Bonavita kettle to the 1.0 liter mark, then poured the water into the Doctor Hetzner kettle. I then re-filled the Bonavita to the 1.0 liter mark. I turned both kettles on simultaneously and started a timer to see which one heats water faster. The Bonavita won with a time of 5 minutes and 42.32 seconds followed 9 seconds later by the Doctor Hetzner with a time of 5 minutes and 51.37 seconds.I really liked the Bonavita: it was a solid performer that heated water quickly. It just didn’t have the capacity of the new kettle, which I have been using for a few weeks now. I like the new Doctor Hetzner kettle so much that I gave the Bonavita to my daughter and I have no regrets.

I am very satisfied with this kettle
I use this to brew coffee in a french press and to brew tea in a mug.I selected this kettle over others because it has a programmable temperature, there is no plastic in contact with the water, and because it is smaller than other kettles. I use this in a cubicle at work, so I didn't want an 1800 watt kettle that may trip circuit breakers. Since this is for 1 person, the capacity is larger than I need for a fresh cup of tea. This kettle heats the water plenty quickly, especially if you only heat 1-2 servings at a time. The stay warm function works satisfactorily. It doesn't appear to throttle the heat, it just toggles the heat on and off. So, it goes from a boiling sound to silence and back to the boiling sound. The temperature displayed matched a thermometer that I inserted through the hole in the lid. So, I trust the built in temperature sensor.I did not detect any "factory smell". It seemed perfectly usable right out of the package. The noise is not too loud when heating. Once the water gets to about 170 it starts rumbling, as any electric kettle does. Since I am using this in a workplace, I chose to disable the beeper (check YouTube). I don't need the beeping, and it got annoying on the first day.Two additional features I would appreciate are:1. Temperature memory. It always starts at 212 when you turn it on, instead of the last setting. Though it is quick to adjust the temperature if you hold the + or - button, jumping 9 degrees at a time.2. Water volume indicators embossed into the steel. There is only a min and max line indicated.

Only >1L electric kettle with a PLASTIC-FREE INTERIOR
I have spent more time than I will ever be willing to publicly admit researching kettles to find one without any plastic parts on the interior. I did this little bit because of that placebo plastic taste, but mostly because I have a major problem with plastic and hot liquids together, especially since BPA is only one of many toxic polymers.ANYWAY, this kettle is an absolute dream. I really don’t care about the variable temperature thing, since I like to let it boil then come down to my desired temp when making pourover coffee. It is a nice feature and works fine for those who like it, though, and works as advertised. The spout pours very accurately with no excess drip page, and the handle is comfortable even when using an entire kettle’s worth on the Chemex. While it is labeled as 1.2L, the max fill etching on the inside is at 1L. That said, the kettle has so much more room and I have put in over 1.3 without a problem, so I’d say the 1.2L claim is valid. This thing is really the best of both worlds, those being capacity and material. It is the largest electric kettle I’ve seen with trustworthy advertising and an all-stainless interior.CONS (ish):It only has two quirks that are mildly annoying, but are practically irrelevant and both related to the interface.1) The beeping it makes when any button is pushed is just a little bit too loud for my liking. It’s not ear-piercing, but it certainly could be turned down a few notches.2) If you do want to change the temperature significantly, you can’t hold the increase or decrease buttons. You have to keep pushing and pushing and pushing, which is only an inconvenience if you like to bring it Down super low. I was making bread and brought it down to 116 F and it just felt like forever pushing that button over and over. Again, tiny tiny annoyance.Overall, great buy. If you want a plastic-free kettle that you can put more than a liter in (i.e. if you wanna make more than 3 cups of coffee), this is the #1 choice.

One heck of a kettle!
We’ve had this kettle for over 3 years, still works like it just came out of the box. Use it everyday. Very reliable. Wish I could say the same for half as many purchases i’ve made from Amazon.
