Spear & Jackson 5LPAPSWOOD Chemical 5 Litre Pressure Sprayer

This is a really good quality pressure sprayer and feels well built from the start. I’ve been using it to spray weed killer around the patio, driveway and garden, and it performs very well. The pump builds pressure easily and holds it nicely, so you’re not constantly stopping to re-pressurise.Spraying capacity is large and the overall unit looks good! The sprayer feels sturdy and reliable, with no leaks or weak points, and it’s comfortable to use even when full. It definitely feels like something that’s built to last rather than a cheap, disposable option. For the price, the value for money is excellent. It does exactly what it’s meant to do and does it well. A solid bit of kit that I’d happily recommend for garden and outdoor maintenance.

It's a good sprayer. Although a little flimsily built.

I have purchased 3 of these over the past few months -- each one has systematically failed. I had paid more for this item because it had a metal hose, thinking it must be more substantial. However, none of the three have lasted. One of the three could not be turned off -- the contents remained permanently on spray despite efforts to switch on and off with lever. Although it could still be used, it was a faff. But eventually, even that went the same way as the other two -- i.e. the plastic turn cap broke/snapped when trying to open it. I have cheaper pressure sprayers made wholly of plastic, and they have lasted much longer than these. I do not recommend.

Update: I found that if you take the large plastic cover off the pump works perfectly with no leaks at all. So that bit needs a redesign. There are instructions with this pressure sprayer and they are on the side of the box so don’t bin it without checking them out, as I did. Anyway it would be nice if you had some kind of information sheet because once you have attached the two alloy tubes and filled it up with water to test it you encounter, well I did, the problem of no pressure no mater how much pumping you do. If you also suffer from less than perfect hearing you miss the hiss of escaping air and so begins the search for which joint is letting the pressure out. Is it the tip? Is it the first pipe, the second pipe, the third with the handle or could it be the black plastic pipe? And if it is, which end ? Is it the relief valve or pumping handle. Well in my case it turned out it was all of the above. But it took ages and someone with good hearing to find the answer. Capacity is fine, pressure is okay, spray pattern is not so great. For the money and the brand name I had expected more, a lot more. But it does work, just not brilliantly.

I previously had a fence sprayer from ronseal which was absolute garbage, always leaked and didn't even function well as a sprayer for fence panels. This on the other hand has a much better build quality, the sprayer arm is metal, the spray switch has a nice lock "on" mechanism and is super easy to pump and see the pressure inside the canister with the pressure gauge. Overall very impressed with this pump, don't waste your money with lower quality brands when something like this will last a very long time! Also just wanted to mention the articulating spray nozzle and spray pattern is very good.

Bought to spray chemicals in the garden. I must admit that there are very few instructions on how to use the sprayer, and if you haven't used one before, it's quite a mind-boggling experience. There are other sprayers which have a more obvious construction, but it's not the case for this particular model... But it worked well when I managed to make it work. Does not leak, sprays fine, no issues so far. I would have given 5 stars if not for the lack of instructions.

Shockingly poor quality control or a non checked return. Would not pressurize as relief valve badly cross threaded, required ptfe tape to fix. Then had 3 leaks on the spray line tube beside the connector to main body. Insulation tape sorted out 2 of them but the third I can't tape as it is under the blue knurl screw cap so still a slow leak. If I wasn't an Engineer then this would have been binned or returned but that is a huge hassle when you live in the sticks. Never again will Spear and Jackson be on my shopping list. Or even Amazon for products like this, when you buy something you want it to work as described and not to be someone else's reject
