I have definitely had bubble tea before, but I always get it from a stall or someplace that sells it pre-made. I like it, though I do usually get the crazy flavors instead of the more plain stuff. To make this, you will need a microwave, or stove top to heat the boba, a quarter cup of hot water, a quarter cup of cold water or milk, and a cup of ice. It's a little bit involved to make. You heat the pearls in the microwave for some amount of seconds until they are done with about a teaspoon of water. It says 30 seconds, but it doesn't mention the wattage of the microwave that it is recommending. 30 seconds in and 700 watt microwave is a lot different than 30 seconds in a 1200 w microwave. They will come out screaming hot regardless. You're supposed to go until they are translucent, but that's not super easy to tell if you haven't done this before.Once you have your pearls ready to go, you put a quarter cup of hot water in a cup of some sort, and dump the tea powder in there. Mix that around, and then dump a cup of ice on there. It's definitely best if you have some nice ground ice, in other words small chunks of ice, than big pieces of ice. Mix that around, and then dump a quarter cup of milk or cold water on there along with a boba pearls. Mix that around, and then drink it. Saying it takes under a minute to prepare is a stretch. Maybe if you have everything sitting there ready to go, including the pre-cooked pearls, then you can get it ready in a minute. It definitely takes longer than that from sitting on your counter to ready to drink. Is this as good as what you will get out of a boba stand? No. It's not even close. It's not terrible, but the flavor is strange. I don't think it's as sweet as the sugar contents would have you believe. It has 26 grams of sugar in it, or maybe 42, but a whole lot of that is hiding in the pearls. Another reviewer said the tea is ridiculously sweet, but I don't agree. The tea itself is not that sweet. The boba pearls don't really leech any sweetness into the tea either. I'm not saying to go dump a bunch of sugar in there, but try it before you go diluting it. The pearls are sweet, but not as sweet as you probably are expecting them to be.The tea itself, doesn't really taste the same as what I'm used to. It's apparently a mix of black tea and green tea. It doesn't taste like Earl Gray tea like some boba tea shops use.An entire cup of ice may have been a bit much for my tastes. You definitely want to use milk for the cold portion instead of water. It's definitely better that way. It might even be better with hot milk for the hot portion. It's fine, all things considered. I wouldn't call it spectacular, but it's not bad for something you can throw together out of a package at home.

Delicious
This kit comes with three servings, each including tea powder, brown sugar syrup, and pearls. Preparation is quick, about five minutes, and the pearls soften well without becoming mushy. The flavor leans sweet, with the brown sugar standing out more than the tea itself. Compared to fresh boba from a shop, the pearls are smaller and less chewy, but for an instant kit they hold up better than others I’ve tried. The straws are wide enough to easily sip the pearls, which is important. If you’re looking for a convenient at-home option, this gives you the essence of bubble tea without needing special equipment, though don’t expect café-level depth of flavor.

Small amount of boba included. Taste is fine.
Not enough boba compared to tea packet quantities. Taste compares just fine to other brands.

Lovely boba and a fun make-your-own experience, but small servings and few of them
This kit was pretty good. I drink boba tea pretty often: I've tried most of my city's local boba tea bars and have pretty strong preferences, and I sometimes buy tapioca pearls to make my own (the downside there is often that they go bad very quickly, depending on whether they're dried, microwaveable etc). So I had high expectations from this kit for the price at the time of review (~$3/serving).This boba kit arrived in good condition and in-date, with no weird issues. It was pretty easy to prepare, and I like that it comes with boba straws in case you don't have them already. The boba straws that are included are paper straws, which may be a plus or minus depending on your feelings: I tend not to mind paper straws too much, but did feel the texture of the straw detracted from the experience of the tapioca pearls. The tea is excellent and really has that "tea house milk tea" taste/vibe to it, but I did find my pearls didn't quite cook evenly using the microwave method and that I had some that were kind of cool and clumpy. There are stovetop instructions I could have used, but in my mind the draw to this kit is convenience and getting out a lot to boil my boba is not that (or I would just get stovetop boba). They did have excellent flavor.I found the serving size for the tea was pretty small compared to the amount of boba it includes. I wish it had a larger serving of tea so I wasn't left slurping up just my boba at the end. The liquid volume per cup is 4oz and the kit has you add an additional 4oz of ice. It didn't give the measurements for the boba and I forgot to measure that before drinking (oops!) but I would estimate that was approximately 2-3oz. Most boba places near me serve cups that are 16oz or larger; some will go up to 32oz. 4oz of liquid really only gets you a few sips of tea, so it doesn't feel like a super satisfying cup.I also think 3 servings is a pretty small box size. I shared this with my spouse and our son, because they both also love boba. They both enjoyed this tea a lot too but the kit only included enough servings for us all to have one small cup of boba and then it was gone.
