Powerbuilt Strut Coil Spring Compressor Set, 2 Piece Hook, Remove and Install Vehicle Coil Springs Struts - 647089

I am pretty satisfied with this spring compressor set. It grips the coils securely, which was a big plus for me. There is no way they will slip off and let the spring go flying. They tightened up nicely. I put a little oil on the threads so the nut would turn easily and it worked great. The only negative is if space is tight, they may not work. Due to their design, they don't hug the spring. They stand out a little (maybe 2") from the spring. Other than that, I was very pleased with them. They seem like one of the safest kind out there, and because they tighten onto the coil, they won't slide around the coil either.

I used the product for the first time yesterday and was very pleased with its performance. I do have one minor observation that may help the manufacturer and other users. The instructions specify using a 1" socket with an air powered drill. So I purchased a 1" socket and it does not fit. Too small by as much as 1/16". So maybe the correct size socket should be included with the product. Having used an adjustable wrench I can assure you that a power assist to compress the spring is very important.

I love these things for an affordable way to remove springs from struts at home. I bought this set because it has u bolts that go around the spring making it impossible to slip off, unlike the ones that are just curved and go over the spring. This is a little bit more time consuming, but much safer, it could prevent a very bad day which is worth it in my opinion. Only thing I'd change would be making the bolt and nut the same size on the compression bolt, but this really isn't a big deal.

Since there's virtually no clearance between the spring and the shock, this was really the only compressor that would work without scraping on the shock body, just barely. It will still scrape if you dont tighten them evenly.I found that oiling up the threaded rod makes the sliders less likely to bind, as indicated in the instructions. Also, as detailed in the instructions, light tapping with a hammer will allow the sliders to decompress without binding.The nut and rod head are nowhere near 1". I found the nut fit a 26mm and the rod head fit 1 1/16". So stupid and I had to go out and buy these odd sized wrenches and sockets which are not cheap.Kinda quirky, but I guess it works for my application, and is still better than taking it to a local shop, who in my area, are mostly incompetent.

This is THE compressor tool for compressing a light coil spring with a shock absorber inside. No other tool I tried allows for the tight clearance between the spring and the shock absorber. With the entire assembly removed from the vehicle and the lower fork chucked firmly in a vise, this tool easily and safely compresses the coil so that the shock can be removed and replaced. Don't be fooled; this isn't for a truck coil! LOL. But it works like a champ on these little rice burner springs. I'd bet this would be a great tool for a bike mono shock spring too.

I have another set of coil compressors but this really work well. They have exceeded my expectations.

Purchased this to compress some OME 885's. NO WAY! They twisted and bent quickly. I'm sure they'd work if you were doing some economy car OEM coils... But don't try it on anything bigger!

Good for the DIY kinda person. Took a while to put it all together and compress the spring wish it was as easy as taking it off. Cant complain for the price tho. It certainly did do the job for replacing springs on my 08 civic.
