Spain...A Culinary Road Trip

Bought the book for only one recipe...and it was changed!
Don't get me wrong, I loved the series - and the book is ok. I bought the book for only one recipe - the paella. The paella from the master paella guy. He made it for 4-6 people and only put in 100g of rice. Even Batalli was amazed at the scant amount of rice and he had to tell us in the series that the norm for pasta is usually 100g per person (he is always comparing everything to an Italian equivalent, which is annoying). Even so, he said it was the BEST paella he has ever had. Many years ago, I was an exchange student in Castellon and this is exactly the paella I used to eat. You eat it out of the paella pan (which in Spanish we just call the paella), which sits in the middle of the table. Even though you are feeding 4-6, the paella pan is enormous - you just want a 1/2 inch thick amount of food - the 100g of rice the master put in was absolutely right. So, I ordered the book out of nostalgia. To my disappointment, Batalli adjust the recipe and includes 2 cups of rice! The scant amount of rice is surely a good secret to know, that and a very big paella pan.I like Mario, but you have to wonder because the guy has been coming to Spain for decades and wasn't familiar with pisto or the ensaimada in Mallorca... Shame on you Mario for not giving us the recipe from the series! That is what the book is supposed to be about!

I watched the trip on TV and love having the book
I watched the trip on TV and love having the book . It is like a travelogue and I like Mario and his group .I wish I could have had the book when we took a tour of Spain , Portugal and Morocco , we liked the food inPortugal and Morocco better , I guess we should have looked for tapas instead of dinner . This is a fun book with interesting recipes and tips it is good like all of Mario's books . I wonder how they got the recipes on paper . I wish public TV would re broadcast the show , it shows a lot of the charm of Spain and it's people .

Worth The Wait
A very good book on the Spaniard kitchen. Received my book faster than Amazon.com promised.

Time to get cooking
I actually got this for my mom a few years ago after we watched Spain on the Road again and then I wanted my own copy. The wait was a little longer but I was in no hurry, there was a rice dish that I used a few years ago that was from this book that I loved but could not find for a long time. So its now time for me to get cooking.

the best of two worlds
SPAIN, a culinary road trip; reads like a travel guide and it is full of words and idioms and food names in Spanish. So, if you are learning the Spanish language this book would be of extra value for you. Of course, there are many recepies, however, there is a special aspect of the book that gives one an insight into the cultural way of eating in Spain. I am reading this book almost the way I would read a novel or sometimes like a text book when it comes to writting down some of the Spanish food names and their translation.

Bought this as a gift for my daughter who recently visited Spain
Altho it was a gift for her, I read it whenever I can, and enjoy it immensely. She has been to Spain and enjoys seeing the pictures of locations they visited on their trip and reading the interesting stories of the areas. She wants to return and visit some of the areas she didn't see but has learned about from this book. There are great pictures, recipes, and information throughout the book. I am enjoying it more each time I look through it.

Great recipes, and you don't have to hear Bythe Danner's 'gift to the world' speak...

Perfect!
I always trust Amazon for buying used books. I have purchased many and they are always true to the rating system used. I had borrowed this from the library and knew I wanted to own it. So much more than a recipe book, you also get taken all over Spain with interesting information on the regions, culture etc.
