The Japanese Pottery Handbook: Revised Edition

A good foundation for technical Japanese ceramic building
It’s a really lovely, almost quaint craft book. Mostly informational but also techniques. If anything this would be a good foundation for anyone studying the influence Japan has had on ceramics in American arts and crafts. And also would be very useful for someone who might have limited Japanese ability but is maybe doing ceramics things in Japan.

Very Detailed Book
First, be aware this book was written in the 1970s, so yes, it is dated. However, that's a plus as well as a minus. There's a wealth of data here about Japanese traditional pottery. It's a delight! How much of this is still true, I do not know. But it's a real treasure for students of traditional Asian pottery.

Good, not great.
My mom is big into pottery so I got her this book for Christmas. We have a lot of Japanese pottery at home from my grandparents, and thought it would be cool if she could learn new techniques. It's a very informative book and mom thought it was interesting, but there aren't really any pictures in the book which was disappointing. There were a lot of drawn diagrams that seemed helpful, and I haven't seen a lot of other pottery books that talk about Japanese pottery as in depth as this book does. So overall it is a good book, I was just hoping for some more pictures.

Simple Approach, All Aspects
I like this book. Simple is good, if you believe in this then you will appreciate this book. Bridges the gap of language and terms with English and Japanese and clarifies everything you can imagine about Japanese Pottery. Not deep explanations, a guide to go further.

... book has a lot of interesting illustrations and gives good insight into traditional Japanese pottery techniques
This bi-lingual book has a lot of interesting illustrations and gives good insight into traditional Japanese pottery techniques. This was pretty useful to me as a beginner because it gave me ideas on what to make and how to do it.
