Mad Rogan is my new book boyfriend
This is our review over at https://www.facebook.com/areaderlivesa1000times.http://areaderlivesa1000lives.blogspot.com/2014/10/burn-for-me-hidden-legacy-novel.htmlPiercing thoughts about Adam?Catherine: Adam. "Rich. Adam Pierce was rolling in money. This morning when I saw him on TV he was wearing a designer jacket and posing against a bike that looked like something out of a science fiction movie and probably cost a lot more than my car." Evil? Sure! Crazy? Yep! Still, I was in lust. Haha. His cocky self had me thinking the story would turn down a different street. I know, I know - he is the villain. But, I'll be damned if Andrews doesn't write an amazingly sexy bad guy. And then you have your heroine who is contracted to bring this hunk in UNHARMED. She may not physically harm him, but his ego is in for a bruising with this feisty lady."You bought me a T-shirt?" He raised one eyebrow.Every nerve in my body was shivering with tension. Steady. "You keep forgetting to put one on, so I thought I'd bring you one. Since we're having a serious discussion."He leaned forward, his beautiful face framed by soft hair. "Do you find my chest distracting?"Yes. Every time I see that panther with horns, it makes me laugh."If I could ask the authors ONE question about Adam, it would be - If he were to write Nevada a sonnet to get to fall in love (for the benefit of touching her!) what would it sound like.Kristyn: When I first started this book, I knew nothing of it except that it was the amazing Ilona andrews. I didnt read th description or anything. So at first I thought maybe this will be the love interest. At first, I could see it. He was cocky, funny, charming, and sexy. He was also very damaged."Love is control. People say they love you when they want to run your life. They wedge and pound you into a shape they find comfortable, and when you try to escape, they hog-tie you with guilt. My family figured it out years ago. We've been marying and breeding for profit for over a century. No love involved."I honestly felt for him. He clearly grew up in a place where he was not loved, and did not know what love was. At first I kind of hoped Nevada was going to be the one to show him.. The more I read, the crazier he became and the less I liked him. “I opened a writing app and began typing what I knew about Pierce.Vain. Terminal fear of T-shirts or any other garment that would cover his pectorals.Deadly. Doesn't hesitate to kill. Holding him at gunpoint would result in me being barbecued. Whee.Likes burning things. Now here's an understatement. Good information to have, but not useful for finding him.Antigovernment. Neither here nor there.Hmm. So far my best plan would be to build a mountain of gasoline cans and explosives, stick a Property of US Government sign on it, and throw a T-shirt over Pierce's head when he showed up to explode it. Yes, this would totally work.”Mad about Rogan?Catherine: I bet any woman with a pulse, to not fall hard for the badass that is Mad Rogan. The tension could be cut with a knife. And the relationship that formed between him and Nevada was nothing short of comical. Rogan is a Prime with top notch powers partners with Nevada for the greater good of bringing Adam in. Dangerous, no regard for human life are just a few things that Nevada associates with Rogan, and yet she finds herself seeking his help. (And dreaming about him in less than professional situations!) “He glanced at me, his eyes dark. "Would you rather talk about your dream?""No.""Considering that I was featured in it, I think I deserve to know the particulars. Were my clothes missing because we were in bed? Was I touching you?" He glanced at me. His voice could've melted the clothes off my body. "Were you touching me?”He doesn't hide his attraction to Nevada and that is the most entertaining thing since it obviously makes her so damn uncomfortable."So the best way to fight you is to strip naked and attack?"His eyes flashed with a wicked light. "Yes. You should try it and see what happens."He almost has a robotic feel to his approach to situations that are emotion filled. He approaches relationships and problems so logically it is humorous."We should have sex."I must have misheard. "I'm sorry, what?"Kristyn: I have come to the conclusion that I love narcissistic, controlling, sexy, but kind of funny men. I am very picky about my book boyfriends. I dont just call anyone that. I can actually count on one hand the guys in books that I love and I LOVE Mad Rogan! I agree completly with what Catherine says. Throughout this book, I kept finding myself begging for Nevada to just give in already! “He would have sex the way other men made war.”Nevada though has issues. She really doesnt like or trust primes at all. Im not sure what gives her this deep rooted prejudice but she turns him down over and over believing that primes are entirely selfish, power hungry, greedy people. She believes that if she were to give in and maybe actually start to fall for him, it will lead to heart break later. Because in her eyes, she would just be a fling, something non permanent because there is no way a prime would ever stay with someone like her, and that he would one day leave her to marry someone with a lot more power to ensure the future of his next generation is maybe even more powerful than Rogan himself. But, I think the whole not falling for Rogan may be impossible for her, no matter how much she tries. I love their witty banter the most. I love their witty banter and I love that fact that she was terrified of him at first, she still did things like this...“You seem to be under the impression that I work for you and you can give me orders. Let me fix that." I hung up.”The more they work together, the more I love seeing them work together. “One school of thought says that the best way to handle an issue like this is exposure therapy," Mad Rogan said. "For example, if you're terrified of snakes, repeated handling of them will cure it."Aha. "I'm not handling your snake.”What kind of magic would you want?Catherine: I am really not sure. I know that I would NOT want to be a truthseeker. While it has it's benefits, I don't want to be able to always know what is the truth. Fire? HELL NO. I would burn myself. But, the ability to throw stuff would be AWESOME!Kristyn: I honestly do not know. It seems like the kind of powers Rogan has is scary. He can lose himself in them and not know who is around him and capabe of hurting anyone. Definitly not fire and being a truth seeker is scary.Penny for your thoughts on Nevada?Catherine: Nevada is such a complex character. She fights all emotion and hides her talents. She holds all this responsibility for her family that it breaks my heart. While she is incredibly close to her family, she shelters so much from everyone. Rogan somehow breaks the walls. She shows such bravery (laced with LOTS of sass and snark) while dealing with Rogan - she just had so many layers."Sure, let me get right on that." Hey, my voice still worked. "Should I bring my own chains this time? Or do you have bigger plans, and is this some sort of freaky murder foreplay"-why did the word foreplay just come out of my mouth - "and I'll end up cut up into small pieces inside some freezer at the end? I can just spray myself with mace and shoot myself in the head now and save you the trouble.""Are you done?" he asked."Just getting started." I was so brave over the phone.Kristyn: Nevada is a strong willd person who is trying and struggling to keep her family afloat. Since her father passed away, she became the "man" of the family, so to speak. Everything she does is for them. She is incredably stong emotionally to be able to handle the things that come her way. She's closed off and doesnt seem to have a personal life at all. No friends and no love interests. Everything is for the greater good of the family. Both her mom and grandmother were decorated soldiers, so its no wonder Nevada turned out such a strong woman.Favorite supporting character?Catherine: Hands down - Nevada's Grandma. Epic character. And her need for pictures of the hotties in her granddaughter's life tells me that she and I would be BEST FRIENDS.Kristyn: I LOVE her grandma. She is hilarious but at the same time, a very incredibly wise woman.I also really liked Leon. “You're Mad Rogan!" Leon burst out."Yes," Mad Rogan said, his voice calm."And you can break cities?""Yes.""And you have all this money and magic?""Yes."Where was Leon going with this?My cousin blinked. "And you look . . . like that?"Mad Rogan nodded. "Yes."Leon's dark eyes went wide. He looked at Mad Rogan, then glanced back at himself. At fifteen, Leon weighed barely a hundred pounds. His arms and legs were like chopsticks."There is no justice in the world!" Leon announced.”Lines you won't likely soon forget?Catherine: I am just going with ONE."Fine," he said. "You had no idea it could be this good. Nobody in your past was ever that good and you know that nobody in your future will ever be this good. You've had a taste and you want more. You want sex. Dirty, naked, hot sex. It's floating through your head as we speak. You think you can imagine what it would be like. Trust me, you have no idea. I haven't even started. So run from it, think it over, pretend it didn't happen, it doesn't matter. I'll allow it for now. The more you fight, the more irresistible it will become, until one day I'll motion with my hand and you'll come running."Kristyn: I second that!! that line was EPIC!!Final thoughts?Catherine: This was SO much more than a romance. I loved all the details about this world. The history behind the Houses was so intriguing. I loved learning all about Primes and the different jobs that were tied to each type of magic. Nevada's family was so much fun to get to know. I am incredibly eager for the next book in this series. The mystery and the chase held my attention for the entire book. The tension caused me to keep the fan on. Kristyn told me that Rogan was Book Boyfriend worthy - and she wasn't wrong. That man will show up in my dreams for months to come. I am sure of it!Kristyn: This book was beyond amazing! It gave me a book hangover for three weeks! I loved the characters, I loved Mad Rogan especially. It wasnt just the character that I loved. It was the worl. Only Ilona Andrews can create these worlds that you just fall in. So imaginative and real. Once you fall in, You want to stay there for ever.

I loved it! Negative review review.
SPOILER FREE RANT, well mostly spoiler free I might give some juicy character details. No plot spoilers. I absolutely loved it! I love the new characters, the new world, the new magic, it's incredibly creative. I am a die hard and very loyal Kate Daniels fan, I like the Edge series and the first Clean sweep was a great read. I had high hopes for this one and I was not disappointed. There are similarities to Kate and Curran, no doubt. There are similarities in the story lines and side characters to the Edge series as well. But I feel other influences at work here as well. And seriously when you create a world and characters as good as they did with Kate and Curran, why not tap into that because that is what your fans like.So I am going to rant on some of the negative review issues so that readers are not swayed from buying this book. Less book sales means less books in this series and I want this one to go one like Kate and Curran. I think there is great promise for Nevada and Rogan and I want to read it!! Currently they are only contracted for 3, I want at least 7.I disagree with most of the reviews less than 4 stars and it is a personal pet peeve of mine when people who read Urban Fantasy complain that the characters are not realistic or do not behave the way normal humans behave. If you want normal humans and normal human feelings and emotions, go read contemporary romance or non fiction. This is fantasy, suspension of reality, it's NOT REAL. I just never understand that reviewer complaint. "Mad Rogan is a psychopath, he tortured her, he blah blah blah", "Mad Rogan wants to possess her, like an object, it sets back feminism decades. We are not prizes to be won." Really? Mad Rogan is a billionaire that can stop world wars single handedly, comes from a long line of magic users forced to marry other magic uses that breed magic children out of obligation, not love, and he can basically rearrange the entire concrete world with thoughts. And he wants her, a diamond in the rough, a self built, hard working attractive unaltered woman, with tremendously rare magic ability and no family name or money and she stands up to him. She's not a prize to be won for him? A man with everything has determined she has a value and a worth that he wants in his life. How is she not a prize? Where in the US can I find this person or a comparable person? Umm, yeah, not so much reality. So if you can't read these books without suspending reality for a few hours, you really should consider another genre.Someone didn't like how he was called Mad Rogan constantly? Mad is to Rogan as Boogey is to Man. Would you walk up to the Boogey man him and call him Boogey? Nope. Mad Rogan is awed, flawed, feared and revered. He earned 3 names in life thus far, and Mad Rogan he uses to the fullest. Is he a psychopath? Possibly. Do we know everything about him in the first book? No. Why not? Because Illona Andrews is smart enough to not play all her cards in the first chapter, or even the first book. Some say it took her three books to get started with Kate. I don't happen to be one of those people, for me it was the first. But book 3 was my favorite for a very long time because of the Scarlet Star scene and what that actually tells you about Kate Daniels, and I don't mean her lineage, I mean her as a woman, human, friend and future wife. So I can understand truly why some felt that way. This is not a normal first series book of info dump, after info dump though, neither is Kate Daniels book 1. I actually happen to like that about these series’. If all the cards are played in the first book, why get the next one? The only author that can do that for me is Kresley Cole but even she has 20 stories happening simultaneously so there are loose ends and info lackage abound. That makes good writing in my opinion. Let the story unfold, let it breath, let the reader make some interpretation on their own and do not spoon feed data. Do you know everything about Nevada and family? Heck no, we might know more about Mad Rogan than we do Nevada, reeeeeally. But then, still, we do not know all that much about him that did not come from third party sources, i.e. possible untrue or merely factual and literal. All the info we actually get from him is quite personal, even emotional, and it is always expressed to Nevada or her family. His feelings about Primes and Houses, marriage, the military. What he does for his employees misconstrued by those in the public as control might be something else entirely. Who am I kidding? Of course it is, hinted at, implied and understood, thank you Doctor Daniela. I am not so sure we see the real picture of Mad Rogan other than public perception, which is what he wants them to see. But I am guessing we certainly will, and I, for one, can't wait!Where did mad Rogan get his money? I wonder if they actually read the book. I was only 50% though the book and I had already read in 2 places how he was wealthy and I didn't even read the prologue. LOL My kindle opened it to the first chapter and skipped the prologue entirely. So going back for a second read, I actually saw it from the very first few pages of the prologue that mad Rogan clearly had enough money, family money, to knock down a 10 million dollar home on a whim. We actually know a lot about this guy by is deeds, both good and bad. I often feel like readers just skim and then complain because they missed crucial data.Another review said that Nevada sucked at magic then all of a sudden she was great. It was a book flaw, how could that have happened? Really did we read the same book? Did she actually suck at magic? She never actually did much magic for reasons explained in the book. I never read any parts where she sucked. She was able to tell lie from truth consistently from the get go. But it was discussed several times, in several chapters, I can't even describe it to you without giving some fairly decent spoilers. So I will say, read it or read it again, and don't skim because the information is there, in the beginning when she thinks about how she became head of the Agency. In the middle, after her first encounter with mad Rogan, again when she had an excursion with Rogan and yet again at the final action sequence and the subsequent hotel hospital scene with Rogan. Then there is the whole "hiding her magic" so as not to be a tool like a prime and then there is the whole, “she's not a prime so she was not trained”. Then the operation. You KNOW something good happened then, so good you don't even find about it in this book! The end, the "villain" just pops up out of nowhere? Uh, not really. It was stated a few times throughout the second half book that strings were being pulled, big strings with big magic and lots of money. We know there has to be a larger group not yet defeated or else the series is over. It's stated as the first in a series, so there will be loose ends. Can I guess who or what that is? Yes. It seems fairly obvious to me. But I am sure there will be twists because with Illona Andrews, there usually is.The "This is not a romance novel" complaint. No, it's not. Illona Andrews does not really write romance, they write urban fantasy with a romance secondary. If you want hot sex in a series, you will not get it in book 1 and even after book 5 you might get 1 scene in a book. it will be a good scene but it will be minimal. If you want a nice scorching build between characters and some sexual tension, you will get it. But it is secondary. It's massive because it is probably the crucible of main character growth and change, but it's still secondary. And though I find that in this book, the romance between Nevada and Rogan is more and faster than Kate and Curran, I still felt it was quite secondary. So don't let the negative reviews bother you on this one. I am a reader of negative reviews. I want to know what others like and if it matches what I like, I read other books they have positively or negatively reviewed. Weird? Maybe but that is how I found Kate Daniels series. A lot of the negative reviews I have read on other books, other authors were spot on, truly. They nailed the plot errors, the flaws, the character misgivings and shortcomings eloquently. But the reviews under 4 stars on this one, I think, are off base. Just my opinion though, read it for yourself. Nobody does Urban Fantasy like Illona Andrews, nobody.

really good
Well, as the title said, this book was really good. I am actually a big big big fan of Kate Daniels' novels and I was really scared that Burn For Me would be less interesting than Kate Daniels'. But even though I still like Kate Daniels more (well, this is my favorite book and I don't think it will change any time soon), Burn For Me was really good. There was a really good plot, really good character, mysterious, and good romance. The only thing that maybe kind of disappoints me (but I don't really call it disappointment) is that I wished there was more humorous line but I think i'm being influenced by Kate Daniels and her weird humor.Anyway, as usual, Ilona Andrews never disappoints me. It's a really good and urban fantasy novel, with a whole new world, not that easy to understand at first but you quickly get it. I recommend this book to every urban fantsy lover.

Ilona andrews, they did it again!
Do not judge this book by its cover! It is awsome. I love the series of Kate Daniel and i hesitate to read this one because of its cover but when i began to read it...I fall in love with its characters, its world and its history. It is a wonderful urban fantasy with a strong heroine like kate daniels but not like her!I'm dying to read next one...So read it!(sorry for my english i am french...)

best romance fantasy
