No, this will not remove ink from a page. It’s good for cleaning covers, removing stickers from covers, etc.

I have oil on my birth certificate. Will this remove the oil without removing the ink too?

I don’t think it would remove oil from your birth certificate and I would ask a library if they have any suggestions on how to remove oil from a birth certificate or from a book. I would look into the hospital to see if they could replace it.

Would this work on vintage cardboard advertising?

Absorene is certainly capable of picking up grime from printed cardboard, but the “real question “ is can it be used safely. The answer to that question depends on a whole host of factors- such as how well bound the ink is to the cardboard, how sound the cardboard substrate is and what the composition of the printing ink is. I have seen Absorene pick up pigment and also leave a white residue when it’s used incorrectly. It is imperative to test the cleaning agent in a very small and discreet location (like the backside of your art or artifact) before using it wholesale. If your “vintage advertising “ has any historic or monetary value, I suggest that you take the artifact(s) to a trained paper conservator.

Does this product contain latex?

The Absorene company is privately owned and is not about to divulge the secret/proprietary formula of their product. However, after using the stuff for over 35 years I can say that I doubt that latex is an ingredient. As an aside, I should add that Abrorene dry-cleaning compound is incredible and can clean (some things) when nothing else will.
