Good book
This book is awsome! I made a really cool bunk bed for my son. I would say that you will have to have more than your average ability with would working tools and some more than average tools. Good luck!

Good outcome, with some extra work
I purchased this book to build a loft style bed for my son who was headed off to college. As he was to be in an apartment, a full size bed was more in order than the standard twin. The book was informative and gave some great ideas, but came up short in a few areas.Pros:- It was relatively inexpensive, a good value.- It gives detailed information for the novice woodworker.- There are lots of options detailed in the book (add-ons like shelves, desks, storage, etc.).- A fairly comprehensive list of necessary tools and materials is provided.- A strong, reliable and durable end product.Cons:- Some diagrams and lists of materials are incomplete or missing, causing a few extra trips to the local home improvement store.- Directions, in some cases, were confusing and with no pictures or diagrams to refer to it required some trial and error and/or engineering thought.- Parts lists were inaccurate, so I ended up underspending on some materials (sanding sealer, wood) and overspending on others (screws, hardware).- There is a reasonable amount of scrap material leftover - not necessarily the fault of the design, just something to be aware of.- The design is STRICTLY for a twin sized bed, requiring a lot of extra work (for cuts, purchasing, etc.) to construct an alternative bed size.In all, the book still was a good value and it was of great assistance in our efforts to make a custom loft. I am sure that the loft will be around for years and can even be sold after my son is finished with his college experience. I think that with a little effort the author could make a sincerely great product by reviewing the materials list, including some tables with dimensions for other sized beds, and improving and adding some of the diagrams with measurements, etc.

Only for twin size bed!
Erik is selling a "system for living". His modular loft bed is well thought out, w/ very detailed instructions (kind of daunting really). I fully believe his loft could survive any natural or man-made disaster. There are two "sizes" a loft for an older child and one for an adult BOTH TWIN SIZE. The bed is designed to last for years, there are all kinds of warnings and extra bracing. Yet, I have seen plans for two person loft beds that are just as sturdy. I had to buy $10 Oploft plans also. I could adapt the modular elements to another design, but why should I? I spent extra money on his "system"! All book descriptions on other sites are the same, and ratings just came back to the one great rating here. It is good book for anyone who doesn't mind a twin bed, or is comfortable reworking the designs.

easy plans, cut and build in a day
easy plans, cut and build in a day, finish dependent on what you choose. Mother is happy, because bed does not shake even when she has to climb up and make the bed. My grandson is also proud of the same "solid" feel of the bed as his friends now want one too.
