If You are A Newbie or Mommy Photographer, This Book is for You
It seems that some people live to give rotten reviews on Amazon. The subject matter wasn't deep enough, this person is obviously a new author. Sheesh! The whole point of eBooks is to hear from new authors who can offer us new perspectives into subjects we are looking into. This book definitely accomplishes that. If you are new to photography and not really sure how to start taking quality pictures in your own home this book is a great place to start.I have been a photographer since I was 16 (weβre not going to talk about how long ago that was, but we didn't have digital cameras). I am by no means a pro, but I know enough to be dangerous. I felt that this book would be great to recommend to my friends who always ask me about lighting and setting up a shoot at home. I may be able to push the buttons, but when it comes to explaining the hows and whys of photography I am more worthless than dental floss at a Willie Nelson concert. How to Set Up Photography Lighting for a Home Studio is written in a way that almost anyone can understand and introduces plenty of topics for further study depending on how serious you are about photography. Thumbs up to the author.

Introduction without Specifics
Photography is a tough subject because there are so many variables involved that impact the final shot. This book describes many of the variables and some of the results, but doesn't describe why she chose a specific setting or position of a light for that shot. It always came down to "experiment" until you like the result, which is true, but most subjects don't have 10 hours to pose while you try to figure it out. I would have preferred an overall shot of the studio setup with an explanation of the camera settings, flash powers, and light positions to achieve that shot. It was nice to say start with ISO 100, at 1/125th of a second at F11, but if the shot is too dark, which should I change first and why? Increase the flash power? Move in close the fill flash? Change the camera settings? It would have been more helpful to show a poor shot and how to correct it than to simply say "use trial and error."

A SUPER BOOK ON PROFESSIONAL LIGHTING FOR THE NEW PHOTOGRAPHER
I am less than a newbie in the idea that I have in my head to take quality photographs with a controlled background. I had purchased a kit with the backgrounds, holder for same, and 3 umbrella lights with stands. I feel with my lack of knowledge, I lucked out. This book explains all I needed to know regarding lighting from hard vs. soft lighting to how and what lights to use to get your desired effect. Is it a doctoral manual on lighting? No. But if you're starting out and don't have a clue what to do or how to set up your lights, then this is the book for you and I whole heartedly recommend it!

Excellent and Insightful Read!
I found this "how to" book by Amber Richards to be a very insightful and thoughtful look into taking beautiful pictures for both personal pleasure and for business right in your own home studio! It goes into details about the advantages of setting up a home studio, how to invest in the right kinds of lighting and gives you practical ideas which will help to start or grow a photography business. Richards explains step-by-step the importance of choosing the right colors, lighting and interior design elements for your home photography studio. I learned about the difference between "cool lights" and "hot lights" and expanded my knowledge of utilizing effective lighting equipment. I never would have learned about these critical aspects of photography in my home if it weren't for reading this book. Highly recommended, please take a look for yourself!

Recommended anyone who wants to own/borrow a studio for their video making
Tis the youtube era. I own a youtube channel and always wanted to own a studio that will bring my channels to the next level. But owning/borrowing a studio cost so much money so I bought this book. This book allowed me to set up a studio that is highly quality and allowed me to make high quality videos. As the channel grows I will be including more features mentioned in this book. Recommended

A terrifically useful starter guide
Having received my first DSLR for Christmas I knew I needed to do some reading up in order to put it to good use. I'd never really thought about a home studio but it seemed like a nice idea so I gave this book a try. It really is very helpful for the beginner. There is good explanation of the rationale behind setting up your own studio and the importance of proper lighting. The focus is on lighting but other subjects related to a home studio are covered, even ideas for setting yourself up in business. The most helpful section is on the necessary gear. Elsewhere it all comes across full of jargon and confusing but this is very simply laid out with sensible advice on going about investing in what can be incredibly expensive equipment. There are lots of pictures and everything is explained in a friendly style, good for reassuring the layperson! This equipment is then collected into different bundled setups for achieving different effects and there are links to videos to see it in action, a very useful idea. Overall a terrifically useful starter guide!

Cheaply produced .
This book has been produced for cheapness not quality, the print size and spaces between are far to large.. this is obviously to make the book look as if it has more content.. the photographs are of poor quality and in most cases to dark.. I am so surprised that this book is printed by Amazon, therefore I assume they consider this book suitable for a saleable item too valued customers .

Useful for those starting out
I enjoyed this book, the reader needs to concentrate and to spend time to fully absorb all the information that is available. It is best to treat this work as a reference if there is any criticism it lis in the lighting setup diagrams which would benefit from the author putting herself in the role as a first time reader. Four stars!

How to set up Photography lighting for a home studio
This is a fairly quick and easy book to read and understand. It's just a lot more basic than I had hoped for.So, not one I would recommend to anyone who knows there photography skills. However, for a total novice it would be very informative, but a few diagrams wouldn't have gone amiss to visually showwhat each particular lighting pattern is that is being discussed. You can get plenty of free video guides on this subject on you tube and discussions on photography chat forums that may be better.
