Review: 3 things to consider if you are going to buy this book! - This was without doubt the best thing I ever did for my son ! I will start by telling you when he took his placement test at the beginning of second grade this year he scored easily into third grade level and almost fourth. Let me tell you how we did it! I ordered it the beginning of his summer vacation. When it got here I divided the number of days to when school started to the number of work pages and it came to 5 pages a day to finish minus Saturdays and Sundays. I got him a note pad and some pencils and erasers and every morning we did our 5 pages. Now granted if it was very hard pages we might do four or even three. But on the same note if they were very easy pages I would do six pages and sometimes seven. This is what I liked about the book. It went progressively. Meaning chapter 1 set the stage for chapter 2 and so on. The book did a great job in teaching skills that would make the next chapter make more sense. Also what I thought was genius on their part was they took a concept and presented it several different ways. For example on telling time it looked at what time is it, how much time is left, how much time would you need, time with pictures, time with word problems, time with games, and time with estimates. With every concept that was taught I felt confident that no matter how the test question was presented to him, he would have some exposure to it the way this book did it! Also what was very important which was a concern to me was always re exposing that which was taught. For example in chapter 3 I believe we worked on very basic addition. Every new section of the book would introduce it again and raise the bar a bit so it got just a bit harder. So through out the summer we worked on basic addition a few days rather than just a few when you got to that section. And it was like that for every concept he learned. Always bringing it back up later so it was not forgotten and took to a bit higher level in difficulty. Let me tell you what he thought of the book. He at first HATED it ! He said it was not fair I was giving him home work on his summer vacation. He wanted to watch cartoons and play video games. I would however give him much praise when he did well and especially when he grasped a concept that was difficult for him. He began to like doing the book because he enjoyed the time we spent together and of course his great job hugs I would give him! He loved showing his grandparents what he learned and they were truly impressed! He absolutely loved the games and any of the problems in the book that had the robot in it! He would come in the morning with a smile on his face and say lets gets started! I loved that ! :) My three important suggestions to consider if you but this book. Buy your child a watch that it is not digital with all the numbers on it. For my child the telling time part time was very hard for him and this helped a lot. Make a point through out the day and night to ask them what time it is! Second let them handle money and help in the stores how to use cash. It will make the book make much more sense and stress the importance of this skill. I want to WARN every one in this book the nickles almost look identical to the quarters. I had to put my reading glasses on several times to tell the difference. This is my only issue with the book! Third is I get up very early and he was just not enough wake to be as attentive and alert and focused as he needed to be. I found if I gave him some time to wake up and what not he did much better and remembered quite well. I will definitely be getting more books for this summer and would highly recommend this book if your child is struggling in school currently! I got some other brand books for reading and writing and I GREATLY REGRET not getting the Sylvan brand, He is currently struggling with with reading and writing but is straight easy A's on math! I hope this helps ! [email protected] Review: Got my money' worth.. or maybe more 😁 - My son just completed grade 1 and I wanted to get him to practice some maths during his summer break to keep him from watching TV all day. Did a quick search, compared few books and bought this. At first he was excited to see the desertcart box but finding out it's a book he was a little disappointed lol. I tried to make him start from page 1 but he wasnt interested. So i browsed through the book and found some interesting puzzles. I showed this page to him where it asks a question "Where does the pencil go for vacation?" That caught his interest. I explained how to do the puzzle and he started doing addition quickly. The last row even had the carry over addition which he hadnt yet learnt in grade 1, but he was eager to complete the puzzle so he asked me to teach him (ofcourse i cudnt be happier). I taught him and he did all the 4 carry over addition by himself to get the answer to the puzzle. Upon completion he was so happy, he showed the puzzle to his dad. Im so glad that within minutes of opening the book he learnt a new thing. So happy with this purchase.

Great for homeschooling!
I'm a first time homeschooler with a 1st grader who is strong in her math and reading skills, and blew through the Spectrum 1st grade books in a month. We upped the ante and got this 2nd grade book to challenge her. It's been engaging for her, and easy for me to explain as we look at the problems, but the Instructions are clear, so she understands them without my help most of the time. There are puzzles and shape matching games where you cut out pieces and they fit things together (among other types of cut-out games). The thing I like the best is how simply every page is laid out. I don't find it cluttered or full of math problems so she gets discouraged by the volume of problems in front of her.

good additional workbook
Not the best, but I am glad to do this workbook with my son. My son just started 1st grade. He already finished some other math workbooks - Kumon +/- and spectrum math grade 2. He is really good at calculation, but he is slow in reading. I decided to use this book because - it has variety problems. Not just calculation, but so many different ways to learn math. grouping, sharing, etc. - good amount of reading. I won't call this 'word problem', but each page has a fair amount of reading to know what to do. Good practice of reading for my son. - a year long workbook. I am planning to use this workbook till the summer. Maybe ~ 5-8 pages a week. - additional workbook. Yes, this cannot be the basic math workbook. I make my son do one sheet of grade 2 to 3 level of +/- each day. This book helps him to know beyond +/-. When my son is ready for 3rd grade math, I am going to make him do other basic grade 3 math workbooks (kumon and spectrum, I am a big fan of), then this will be added to boost his ability to apply the basic math skills.

Book has Easy-to-Use Format to Engage Young Minds
This book has helped my 5 year old son learn second grade level math skills. He can read the simple directions and follow the math problems. For example he learned how to “carry the one” when adding double digits numbers. The book showed how to write the calculation and where to place the “one” so that it can be added into the calculation. He immediately understood the concept and was able to practice the concept through the formatting of the problems that were given. Once he completed that group of problems he was satisfied and wanted to go to the next page. The next page removed the formatting and tested his ability to do the exercise without the format. He remembered the concept from the previous page and was able to move forward and complete the new challenge. Once he completed the page I could tell had a “sense of accomplishment”. On to the next page he went and so on….The book has a great format for allowing the child to be self-learners by looking at the easy to follow example and then completing the exercises. This is a great book for those children that have mathematical minds.

Fun math workbook
I bought this book to help my daughter with her math, so used this as a supplement to her math homework for 2nd grade. She loves doing the games and puzzles and problems in the 2nd/3rd portion, which can be challenging for her at times. The first portion of the book is more straightforward questions on math. The book is very colorful. So far the answer key has been very accurate. We have only come upon one minor error on a page where it says there is an item that is $15+ but the money shown only shows $10 (missing one more $5 bill) but besides that, so far the book is very accurate. I believe some of the questions asked are more advanced than the questions she gets on her homework which is good. So far this has been one of the best workbooks that I have come across. Great price for the value!

Great worksheets for home!
My children earn extra screen time at weekends by doing worksheets. I bought my second grader the Second Grade Language Arts and Super Maths Success books and she is working through them. They are maybe a touch too easy but she does struggle with math sometimes in particular and I figure it's all good reinforcement for what she's done at school. My Kindergartner is reading already and is good with his numbers so I bought him the 1st Grade Sylvan Learning Language Arts Success and Super Maths Success books which are just at the right level for him. It's a very thick book, which can make writing in the early/latter pages difficult sometimes, but you could always tear the pages out and work on them that way if that's a problem for your child. I think the combined Sylvan language arts and math success books are fantastic value and definitely recommend.

Wonderful exercises! I purchased this because my son's school ...
Wonderful exercises! I purchased this because my son's school district has done away with homework, which I believe is absolutely ridiculous. But, I get it I suppose... Anyway, we provide our son homework at home everyday after school, and this workbook has been such a wonderful learning tool. The pages are colorful and relevant. It is a terrific addition to any at home learning routine. I couple this with 20 mins of reading and a 5 sentence book report on what he read. The Merriam-Webster's Children's Dictionary is also a great addition to help your baby get ahead and stay ahead. Can't wait til he finishes this one so that we can start on the 3rd grade workbook :-)

Homework fun.
This is like the proverbial spoonful of sugar. We wanted to supplement what our child is learning in school without causing him unnecessary grief. He has always loved math but can become anxious when the concepts present as difficult. The pages of this book are visually appealing, the bright colours and fun images making the tasks seem less like "work". We see similar topics in class assignments but those are black and white, not very interesting to practice with. The page-a-day approach of Super Math is terrific for kids and allows them to build on their knowledge step by step, without becoming discouraged. At the outset, each new notion is presented in a simple way so that the student can build confidence as he progresses. We are happy with this purchase.
