Wirework w/DVD: An Illustrated Guide to the Art of Wire Wrapping Paperback – December 7, 2010

This book provides good instruction on wire working techniques that can be applied to many different jewelry-making projects. There are lots of clear illustrations that help in understanding what is being explained. And... if you want... there are several projects that are explained step-by-step that you can make too. I really think this book was a good purchase.

I have been making jewelry for several years, changing techniques from time to time to increase my skills. I had watched previous video clips by this author, and was happy with the instructional format. I had looked through the book at a brick and mortar book store, but did not see the DVD until I received the book. Photography is excellent, illustrations are clear. I liked the explanations of tools used in the book. Lots of tips. I was less pleased with the DVD. I found the language condescending and less instructional. Projects were not completed on the video, and different tools were used than in the book, frequently substituting found objects for commercial tools. That is not all bad, and can enable beginners to move their production along without over investing in tools. I would buy the book again, but not for the video. Like many hand skills, it is just important to get hands on and work until the skill belongs to you.

I'm not an expert wireworker but this book will help me take my work to the next level. It is very well written and the images are great. I highly recommend this book. While it doesn't cover the very basics it has great tips and tricks that even a novice could find useful. Honestly there wasn't anything I didn't like about it. Give it a go even if you only keep it for later when your ready.

I was disappointed with this book and DVD. First off, I had hoped that that there would be something about more intricate ways to wire wrap cabochons for pendants, but I saw nothing out of the ordinary. Dale's ring designs weren't very appealing, either. The bracelet on the cover was what made me buy the book in the first place, but I noticed that she misspelled the stone she used. It's "eudialyte," not "eudyalite." As far as the DVD is concerned, I stopped watching it because I found "Cougar" a bit catty and condescending. I certainly didn't expect her to "hold my hand," as the foreword to the book states, but I did expect a bit of respect for the intelligence of those watching her video. I'll hang on to the book, because, as I said, I did like the eudialyte bracelet design, and the base design for the drop necklace was good, but for the most part, I wasn't impressed with the majority of her designs, and the DVD will most likely get tossed in the wastebasket.

I'm so glad I found this book! Dale "Cougar" Armstrong is a fantastic teacher. She teaches her method of wire wrapping that is so professional looking and with instructions and formulas to help adjust for different sizes. I love her designs. If you like wire wrapping, get this book!

We have 3 dvd players in the house and the dvd will not play on any of them. The players have been playing all manner of dvd's from regions all over the world, so it is not the players. SO IF YOU ARE BUYING THE BOOK TO WATCH THE DVD FOR INSTRUCTIONS, BEWARE -----THE DVD DOESN'T WORK.AS FOR THE BOOK'S CONTENT, THE PROJECTS ARE INTENSE. CERTAINLY NOT FOR A BEGINNER BUT SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE LOOKING FOR SOME NEW IDEAS WILL ENJOY. The work is definitely outstanding and beautiful but a newcomer to wire wrapping will need a lot of time and practice to arrive at these finished pieces. Not the book to start wire wrapping with.Projects are presented thoroughly and with good photos.Added noteafter examing the back of the Dvd and finding gook or glue or????we gave the DVD a thorough cleaning and now it works in all our players.Really???? was this a new DVD in a new Book???? really who ships a dirty DVD?????

I bought one for myself and then another to give to a friend. You can easily adapt a design of your own to base bracelet. Really great book.

I received the wire working book right away. It was in excellent shape. And I love it!!

If you'd like to make jewelry like the bracelet on the cover this is the book to get. It's not for absolute beginners, though - it assumes you know how to handle the basic tools - but for people who have a little experience working with wire and want to expand.I've made wire wrapped pendants before but wanted to learn new ways to attach stones to bracelets and rings and when I saw the cover picture I knew I found the book I needed. I wasn't disappointed.The instructions are clear and there are pictures of most of the important steps along the way and many interesting and important hints on how to get a perfect wrap.Apart from the bracelets I also loved two of the ring projects. Other projects include the more common stone pendant and some earrings.The only thing that disappointed me was the fact that one of the bracelets pictured at the beginning of the bracelet section that is not part of the projects. It's a variation of one of the rings adapted to a bracelet, so I guess you can get there by using the ring instructions but I was sad not to see it included.

I had tremendous difficulty in obtaining copies of both Dale Armstrong's "Wirework: An Illustrated Guide" and Lisa Barth's "Timeless Wire Weaving" because both books were published recently in America. This was frustrating because both are excellent books that enable both novices (like me) and more experienced jewellery makers to improve their wire weaving skills.Thank you, Amazon, for keeping both books in stock, and for sending these to me so quickly. I am absolutely delighted!

Have just received this book today & already have read it from cover to cover & watched the DVD. It is an amazing book & I cannot wait to start the projects. I have seen lots of wirework techniques but this book is so easy to understand and projects that looked so hard are shown to be in reality very simple if you just follow the instructions.I would recommend it to anyone wanting to go a step further in their wirework hobby.

Easy to understand and follow, Dale makes creating beautiful jewellery accessible to everyone. It says advanced but I was able to follow the guides, I consider myself to be a beginner, though the work produced with Dales' instructions is above my usual work, I now incorporate ideas gleaned from this book in my work.
