CCIE Routing and Switching Certification Guide

Ok NOW I am sort of ready in Summer-Fall-2013 :) :) update
2012 I guess; things change, ..:)I just got the book. Maybe for the written you have to use other books but you will have to anyway later. I certainly expect to. I don't think one book can do it all. I was planning to do it in the next 3-4 months but now I have a few other certs to do before I tackle the written. I have seen some of the practice questions here and other sources and given the number of areas, ie BGP, OSPF, QOS, router in general, switches, IPv6, MPLS, etc. you certainly will be using a book, or a lot of time on [...] on each area.So QOS, BGP, MPLS, etc Cisco has certainly written a book on each subject as well as their web site. So to do the lab anyway you will certainly need those books anyway. So for a test that has those areas, its nearly impossible unless the book would be several thousand pages. Yes the book just introduces each area, and is better in some areas than others but if the level of questions asked then you consult/read other books, internet to get the information you need. You are going to have to do that eventually anyway unless your goal is to just pass the written.Given my schedlule currently, I have about 2-3 other certs to finish before I can take it, probably late 2011. Also given the job I currently have and finances and of course TIME,my situation is such that I need lots of hands on, just to even attmept the lab. My job while I have access, I need lab time period. I have a CCNP, CCSP, AND CCVP and most likely this year a CCNP wireless. So I will need to recertify anyway so I may have to take the CCIE written in 2012-2013 to recert my paper from a practical point of view.Given my situation, I would rather start lab prep as much as possible first, take the written in earnest, once I have enough book, lab time in. Just my 2 cents worth. So most likely have to take it twice, once to recert my paper and second time when I am somewhat close to taking the real cert.Feb 20-2013 OK I've got all my Cisco mid level certs; I still want to do the CISSP first so another few months after May-2013 and I finally finsh school; Then in late April or May I hit the CISSP and when I finally pass this, need it for new jobs:) :)Ok NOW hopefully I can start hitting the CCIE trail; So besides Odom book, I have all the CCIE books, DOle v1,v2, BPG book, MPLS, QOS, switch books, etc.Guess I will follow the INE path; BTW Webber and INE is unpaid endorsement, just happen to buy their stuff:) :)I am getting older age 63 in APril this year. Not sure I have drive to do the CCIE:) :) Hope I don't give up but there are days:) :) Anyway once I start on CCIE studies, my plan is totake the written, late 2014 or early 2015, to renew CCNPs, also hope I am somewhat close to the lab. Probably pick up other volumes of INE stuff as I can afford it by then:) :) That will give me another 18 months to take my first attempt; So late 2016 would be my first real CCIE lab attempt, I want to be real sure I am ready before I blow my $$.---Nov 4-2013 new job so no CISSP save $500, and couple of months study new job Linux. Do couple of Linux certs and BASH shell scripts.Heard CCIE vrs 4 ending vrs 5 so see if I have time to do this, maybe written as done late as possible.Only advantage is renew old certs.

Solid Book, for CCE RS *WRITTEN* 5 stars.
This book is a solid read. I will warn you, it can be "high level" on a lot of different concepts. What I mean by high level is this book is more about hitting the highlights than the nitty gritty. If you are like me, did your CCNA and your CCNP, then this book will make sense. It admits that "goes into a little more detail than the CCNP material" and that sounds about right. If you are looking for a book and you are a noob that wants to learn about networking this book is NOT for you.Who's this book for? People that want to take the CCIE Routing and Switching Exam version 4. The book tells you that is what it's for. So again, if you are a CCNP and I mean a REAL CCNP and not some retard who memorized a bunch of answers and can actually perform REAL network duties, then you will be fine with this book.It will cover what you need to know for the CCIE RS written which really, covers a broad set of topics and doesn't go deep into everything. The lab however will, so while this will get you through the written don't forget to add the following books:Routing TCP/IP Volume 1 second edition, jeff doyle (CISCO PRESS)Routing TCP/IP Volume 2, jeff doyle (CISCO PRESS)MPLS Fundamentals, cisco pressYou may also want to read the BCMSN book by cisco press as well.So for the CCIE RS written, this book is good for that but if you want deep and explanation of line by line what things do, the background on them - this is more of a fly by but essential for your CCIE RS written exam.So for the CCIE RS Written = 5 stars, if you are using this for the lab, 3 stars you need more, but they tell you that in the book so kudos to them :)-Nick

Excellent Guide for the CCIE R&S 4.0 Written Exam
I have to admit that I was a bit intimidated when I saw how thick this book is, as if the CCIE isn't scary enough. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it is actually a pretty easy read and provides a very good foundation for written exam prep. You'll find nearly everything from the 4.0 exam blueprint is covered and the level of detail for each topic seems to be appropriate. The only flaw I can think of is that the book is about 2 years old now which means it doesn't cover a few of the more recent blueprint tweaks Cisco has made but all in all I'd say it's 90+% of what you'll need to prepare.Even if you're not looking to take the CCIE written this book is a worthwhile read just to become a more rounded network engineer.

Excellent
This is a very good book, not only if you are studying for your CCIE but just for general knowledge. After getting my CCNP and CCDP I felt there were situations I would run into at work where it would be necessary to engineer certain things and I just couldn't find a way to do it with the knowledge I had from my studies for those certs. My employer asked me to pursue my CCIE (I was planning on it anyway) and I happened to see this book just came out around the time I had finished my CCDP, which was exactly when I had planned on pursuing my CCIE. After reading through about half this book, I have already seen many answers to those engineering questions I have had in the past. Usually this has been related to certain BGP attributes for multiple ISPs and things of that nature, but there has been others as well. While this has been great for new knowledge, it is very in depth and solidifies the concepts learned early on in your networking studies. This of course is good for the test, but also reminds you of the little things you might not have thought about in a while. While progressing we sometimes forget the simple stuff, this is a good review for that. I will definitely be keeping this in my library for some time.

ottima referenza

very comprehensive with good examples
Very comprehensive book. It shows the content in a good way and includes well documented examples.Q&A section in the beginning of each chapter and additional study guides at the end.I used this book as wrap up for the other CiscoPress books I read in the past.

Super Certification Guide

A must have for the CCIE
Having read some of the reviews I was expecting worse than I got. This book is really, really good. Forgive them a couple of mistakes in a book this large covering this amount of work and you'll have a great reference source.Of particular note are the questions they set for each chapter. Nothing easy, nothing quick and nothing shallow. They stretch you and keep you thinking. You will end up ordering several more books, notably the TCP/IP books from Jeff Doyle which keeps on teaching me new things every time I open a page.A great book. Get it if you're serious about your CCIE but don't forget to work on you practical all the time.
