A masterpiece, one day...
It’s a funny thing music, one artists work can go right to the centre of your soul for one person and for another it will be totally the opposite, abhorrent even. Take a look at the reviews here alone, both extremes, marmite, you either love it or hate it. Even those who like Marianne’s other albums detest this one. It’s very weird. You will have guessed which side of the fence i sit already, I’m a five star man. Marianne has done us proud with a record from the soul, direct from her heart, in her broken slightly off key voice which either works for you or not. But many artists can’t really sing in the true sense of the word, but yet they’re considered probably amongst the greatest in the world of popular music, I’m thinking of Dylan, Cohen, Waits etc but boy can they perform a song and write them too! Why is it? I think it’s because they truly immerse themselves in the song, the song is all and they write and perform it from the depths. Marianne is one of these performers for me, she can perform a song and here is a record of true sadness, almost finality, the loneliness, the heartbreak. Her new versions of older songs on this record, As Tears Go By, It’s all over now, Baby Blue are exquisite as is the rest of the record. Listen to The Gypsy Faerie Queen with Nick Cave and feel her sadness. The songs with Ed Harcourt especially Misunderstanding are so beautiful too. It could be her last but I hope it isn’t. In any case I’m convinced it will come to be seen as her masterpiece and a masterpiece in its own right, one day, by some!

Marmite
How does she do it. She cant really sing never really could, but I love her voice. The songs on this album are superb. There is no one like her. I feel she is probably a bit like marmite to alot of people..

wonderful voice - wonderful arrangements
Wonderful disc. This is Marianne at her very best. Every song is great - she has such wonderful rhythm. The backing is really good. To hear her sing 'It is the evening of the day' again after all these years, but now with her wonderful voice of to-day is such a treat.

Good gift for older man!
Bought as a gift for husband, who has always been in love with Marianne! He loves it.

I’m a fan!
It is a bit “bury me now”! However, I love Marianne’s gravelly voice. A few remakes but good interpretations of originals. A listen to once in a while rather than every day.

Very disapointing
A new CD from Marianne Faithfull. Saw a very positive review in a National Newspaper so immediately purchased it.Sadly it's all re-recordings of previously issued materials. All good tracks but where's the new work?Very let down.
