The Kovenant is certainly one of the most intriguing bands ever to emerge on the Scandinavian metal scene. The exclusive re-release of Kovenant's amazing album - "SETI" - showcase a group that is not afraid to experiment with different genres.

Chasing stars one riff at a time
If you are expecting brutally heavy Black Metal or Industrial-ish Death Metal your barking up the wrong tree. If your looking for Sci-Fi based Industrial Metal then this album will most likely please you. The Kovenent have long been away from their Black Metal roots and though now and then a faster riff or more complex drumming lines occur thats about as close as it gets. Lex the vocalist of Kovenant normally sticks to a clean deeper tone through out S.E.T.I. but oftenly changes over to a high pitched growl similar to that of old Cradle of Filth. The Guitarist and Keyboardist; Psy is an especially gifted musician. all of the tracks have amazing Keyboard & Programming arrangements done mainly by Psy, From Higher pitched echo'd out space like sounds to distorted Classical Piano arrangements. Many people are supprized to find out that whom is considered to be one of Metal's greatest drummers Von Blomberg A.K.A. Hellhammer sits behind the kit for Kovenant. The beats this guy puts down are amazing and oftenly he uses Synth Pads to make some interesting tones but oftenly he just plays the classic kit and supprizing he's so good that he makes it sound excellent with the Industrial/Electronica arrangements. This is not for everyone, But alot of people can enjoy this and many do.<-FAVOURITE-TRACKS->-Cybertrash-Stillborn Universe-Acid Theater-The Perfect End-Keepers of the Garden<-THE-BAND->- Vocals & FX <> Lex Icon -- Guitars, Keyboards & Programming <> Psy Coma -- Drums & Percussion <> Von 'Hellhammer' Blomberg(-ADDITIONAL-PERSONNEL-)- Live Guitarist <> Angel- Programming & Sound Design <> Erik Ljungren- Bass Guitars <> Jan Kazda- Soprano Vocals <> Eileen Kupper- Additional Bass <> Siggy Bemm<-OTHER->- Recorded: May - October 2002- Released: July 2003- Label: Nuclear Blast GmbH- Album Length: 1 hour 7 min. 34 sec.

Not Bad but could have been better
I've listened to The Kovenant since they were Covenant and I've alway liked the direction they have taken, but this albulm threw me off a little. The metal edge on the industrial rock has been dulled down a little. The rock feel watered as well, and the industrial element throw into the front line up but slowed down and a little disapointing. A good amount of the songs are done well but not if you were expecting to hear something a little more aggressive. Good on it's own but as a progression of albulms it's kind of a let down. Don't get me wrong the Kovenant is still one of my primary bands but let's just say I'm looking forward to the NEXT albulm.

From blackmetal to an Orgy sound.
Ok Nagash has done a complete 180 from his Dimmu Borgir former self to this. Heck Hellhammer of the murderous macabre Mayhem has gone this way. Hey I have no problem with this if these guys want to expand their horizon and experiment by all means do so. This stuff is really catchy. It reminds me of Zipper catches skin era Alice Cooper, old Ministry, and Orgy. Though I kind of hope they would go more of a noisy industrial sound like present Ministry, The Berzerker, and Front Line Assembly. However if you are not afraid of listening to 80's style new wave industrial go for this. Also if you are wanting to transition from industrial pop (aka Nine Inch Nails, Orgy, Deadsy, and Marilyn Manson) to blackmetal then Kovenant would be a good place to start. It'll get you familure with Nagash and Hellhammer. Then get their first experimental album Animatronic then get their other stuff. After that branch out to other black metal bands. I would suggest Dimmu Borgir next due to the synth use.

this band is a bit slow
Kovenant sounds like black metal and gothic metal mixed together. the three guys that compose the band do not wear corpse paint. this band is a bit slow, as most black metal bands go fast in their approach. like I said, it's a mixture of black and gothic metal, and they don't wear the typical corpsepaint that most of the black metal bands do. hence, I took a star off for being slow.

Kovenant is refreshing from ordinary black metal...
I always felt Kovenant (the newer Kovenant ;)) were more unique and creative than most black metal (or metal bands in general) of today. Maybe I'm a bit biased since I tend to favor electronic and industrial music a lot more than black metal. I'm just glad there are bands out there that aren't afraid to expand themselves or try adding more elements to their music. I think it worked for Kovenant as I tend to like SETI and Animatronic better than their other albums. Their old albums sound too ordinary for me, and their new stuff is a lot more refreshing. However if you are a too traditional hardcore black metal fan, I wouldn't recommend this for you. I just wished I could find more bands like Kovenant...that have a good metal but at the same time, a unique electronic sound infused. Seems like Kovenant does it best. If anyone can suggest me anything, hit me up. :)

Space Metal at its finest!!!
First off, those of you who doubt the authenticity of The Kovenant under the black metal genre, you must understand that this is NOT black metal. If you want black metal listen to Cradle of Filth or Dimmu Borgir, don't search here. The best way to classify S.E.T.I. is space metal. Heavy electronics with heavily distorted guitars. If electro-esque type metal isn't your cup of tea than don't drink this. The best song is Star by Star, which is quite possibly one of my favorite songs of all time. If I may regress, you may find refuge in The Kovenant for a break of mainstream metal. The unique sound they produce is highly appreciated by open-minded music fans like me. So stop saying that The Kovenant is a bunch of black metal posers, because I'm pretty sure they know they have deviated from black metal. This is space metal, and I absolutely love it.

Avatara's review of The Kovenant "SETI"
This album is a continuation of the foray into Cyber-industrial Metal that began with "Animatronic" and is just as good. The entire album is of an incredibly high standard in song writing and musicianship and is delivered with surgical intensity. There is however an oversight on the CD version, track 13 Subtopia and track 14 The Memory Remains are omitted although displayed on the back cover in the song list. The vinyl version of the album has these two afore mentioned bonus tracks which are well worth getting hold of. If you love Gothic Metal or Dark Wave then this album is a must for your collection.

genial.
El sonido es grandioso, remasterizado a 24 bits, suena igual a la primera edición. Las canciones son chingonsísimas como Star by Star y The Perfect End.
