After 2 decades, WITHIN TEMPTATION is ready to break with the past. Following HYDRA in 2014, the 7th studio album `RESIST' is a distinctive metal record that takes inspiration from our modern & future society and casts it into arrangements & dark melodies like you've never heard before. Armed with 10 anthemic tracks that consist of heartfelt melodies, bombastic drums and heavy wobbles, but also flawless collaborations with famous singers Jacoby Shaddix (Papa Roach) and Anders Fiden (In Flames).

A WT masterpiece
I been away for 6 months so I just had a chance to sit down and listen to this a dozen times. A true work of musical art is my impression. Turns out Robert Westerholt quitting the touring to focus on songwriting and raising the kids was a genius move. The current lineup is fantastically talented and yet Robert is always there like a lighthouse they can tether themselves against. This gives the band a chance to express new things musically without losing the WT sound. Now to the CD. This entire work has kind of a Sci-fi industrial sound that really works with this band. I could easily envision these songs playing in the background of some bar or club in a Blade Runner universe. I swear Sharon's voice gets better every year. She can still hit the highs and her range is now able to successfully explore much lower ranges which results in excellent vocal variety within each song.Favorite tracks:'Holy Ground' is an absolute masterpiece'In Vain' I really dig'Mercy Mirror' is classic Sharon and powerful. It is a textbook example of her amazing rangeThis is one of those cds where you just put it in and dont skip any of the songs. Not a single throwaway.I can't leave without commenting on the drums. The drum sound is absolute primal animal and contrasts wonderfully with the whole sci-fi feel to the cd. Props to Mike Coolen for putting in a ripping emotional percussion performance. As a drummer, his sound and playing on Holy Ground gave me chills.I am excited for the next project. This band is firing on all cylinders right now

This is an Album You Shouldn't Resist
I've been a long time fan of Within Temptation and have enjoyed every album they put out. Resist takes you on a journey with each song. Resist feels like a concept art album like that of The Unforgiving. So, if you liked The Unforgiving album, I guarantee you should like this one. Resist feels as if they took their time and thought everything through to get the end result. My favorite song of the whole entire album is Firelight. Firelight is a song that can sum up the whole tone of the album, in my opinion. I have had it on repeat for awhile now. It is very haunting, dark, and lulls you into the album world of Resist. Some other standouts: The Reckoning, Supernova, and Trophy Hunter. The album booklet art is beautiful to look at and can help you visualize the world Within Temptation built with this album. Within Temptation definitely knows what they are doing. Great job Within Temptation!---My only complaint that has nothing to do with the album itself. I wish Amazon offered an audiorip of the album upon purchase.

Songs Are Quite Bland
This is for the Resist CD. Yes, I still buy CD.The songs are short. They loop through the same beat over and over. You can listen for the first couple 10-15 seconds and can skip to the next songs. You won't miss much. The songs have no structure. The songs start and then end. No introduction or up-and-down like the CDs before. The style is also changed. The songs sound like rock rather than Gothic metal. The big epic voice is gone.It is welcome for the band to try something new. But just like the movie Rock Star from 2001, the fans expect to hear the Steel Dragon sound. They should not deviate that.Ok CD but it will take me some time to get use to the new sound. The CD comes with a cardboard CD holder with one pocket to hold the booklet. The CD is clipped on the plastic holder. I don't like this kind of cardboard CD holder. If the clip broke, I cannot replace it.3 stars from me

What a great album!
Hard to believe Sharon recorded "My Indigo" at the same time WT were working on this album, because this album is SO COHESIVE. It's epic, it's volumes of power and star-studded excellence and, and, and...WOW! Just an incredible album. If you are a WT fan for the power, this is their best album since "The Unforgiving." Seriously. "The Heart of Everything" is my favourite overall studio album up to this point (end-to-end), so you should adjust your expectations accordingly. If you're looking for ballads, you're going to come up short, but "My Indigo" is an exceptional companion piece in its own right if that's what you want, even though it's nowhere close to the same vein as "Resist."Can't wait to see them at The Wiltern.

Good but not their best.
Overall not the best the band has put out. Being a fan of the band there was something missing from the music. That being said it is still better music than that is being put out from most artists these days.

Within Temptation in all their glory
Absolutely loved this Within Temptation album. True to form, it delivers everything I've come to know and love about the band's style and talent. Have it in my car now, rolling on repeat.

Another solid production from W.T.
I've been a huge fan of Within Temptation for years. This is yet another solid album from them--nothing ground-breaking, but nevertheless satisfying. Sharon's vocals are of course superb. I've been playing this one on repeat for months now! Thematically, it's more of a grunge or hard rock style for them, but yet they still retain their trademark 'sound'.

Irresistible.
When I first heard some of the tracks previewed on social media sites, I was a little disappointed and I considered not buying the album at all. But without temptation, I bought the album just a few days before it's release and I must say, I'm pleased with it. 20 second samples on social media just don't do it justice.I take for granted that everybody has their favourite tracks. Raise Your Banner is now one of mine, followed by Endless War which begins with a simple piano intro and becomes a full orchestral and choral piece of the standard you would normally expect from Within Tempation's brand of symphonic metal. Another is Supernova but I personally favour Mercy Mirror. in fact I'd go so far as to say it's the best track on the album. The singer, Sharon Den Adel is, as always in fine voice but she doesn't carry the album alone as two tracks feature other vocalists. So, I'd definitely recommend RESIST as a good album.

Pooh poohed at first but...
Unfairly I just saw a couple of video clips when it 1st came out and pooh poohed it, I didnt think much of Hydra (another i need to revisit!) and paid no heed. With the upcoming tour I decided I had to give it a chance. And found it totally addictive!I workout to it. Its simple and punchy yet with some modern edges and yet the occasional trimming of old school WT (which I love best). Glad to hear some growly vox in there too.The most interesting thing for me though is, being the same age as Sharon, I can hear nods to 80s things like Kate Bush and even a song from Grease (we were into that at the same age too). Then Mad World is hearkening to Depeche Mode (the band say themselves not just my note), another of my fav bands, and in doing so has echoes of Peter Tagtgrens PAIN, my other fav! So it's got heavy and crunchy but also sweet and melancholy and retro and modern. Will I find as much redeeming in Hydra when I go back?I must say I barely sat thru the latest vids because I was close minded so have to check them out too yet..I thought they werent 'metal' so didnt give them a fair go. And whislt Epica remain my favourite and have stayed 'metal' it doesn't mean there isnt space for WT in my library, especially at workout time!
