Gustav Klimt: Art Nouveau Visionary

I originally bought this to write a report for my undergraduate degree. Years later, it is still serving me as a coffee table book. Informative, with a gorgeous design. Lots of positive remarks from guests who thumb through it. An excellent overview and depiction of Klimt and his work.

As others have noted, this is an extraordinary book, especially for the price. The images are BEAUTIFUL, and there are lots of them. I went to school for Art History, so I have a ton of art books that were required for classes, and I'm astonished that this book, with so much information and so many images, is at the price point it is. If you are a fan of Klimt, or know someone who is, this is a WONDERFUL book.

I bought this book on Klimt as the other reviews mentioned the good size of the book and the lovely pictures of art. It is all that. For a reasonable price, this book is perfect. A great buy.

This book is amazing. The book is large and the pictures are beautiful, with some duplicated and parts enlarged so you can see the detail that Klimpt envisioned. It is not very expensive and worth every penny. You would normally think a book like this would go for fifty dollars or more, so for the price and pictures of his works it's a steal. Happy I purchased it.

Beautiful, strong reproductions of his work, along with valuable biographical information. Klimt's work is striking and beautifully eccentric. I wish more people were aware of it. Often he is seen as more of an "illustrator," just as Andrew Wyeth has been in the 20th C. But Klimt's vision is unique and strange and aesthetically unusual. This book does a respectable job of presenting what he created with a wonderful balance of word and visual image. I always wish the paper used on these kinds of books was THE very best in the universe, but the cost would be far higher. Nonetheless, the cost was reasonable and I am pleased with the results.

We were pleasantly surprised by the scope, size and quality of this volume. Ms. di Stefano's narrative is extensive and authoritative and hard to put down once started. The illustrations of Klimt's work are beautiful - large, nuanced and often presented with separate expanded views of critical details. Though soft bound, the cover is heavy, durable and beautifully illustrated (looks great on a cocktail table). For anyone interested in an encyclopedic review of the life and work of this remarkable artist, this volume presents an excellent place to begin.

Along with Anne-Marie O'Connor's "The Lady in Gold", this is by far the richest and most engrossing book on Gustav Klimt and his art. It's the story of his life, along with beautiful, high-quality photos throughout. This and O'Connor's book are the ne plus ultra two-pack gift for any Klimt fan.

I ordered this while traveling to Vienna and after viewing many of Klimt's masterpieces at the Belvedere Gallery. When it arrived I was very pleased with the layout of the book. It puts his work in context of his overall artistic development and his major influencers. With text about the life and work of the artist supplementing the reproductions and photos of Klimt and his models this is a wonderful overview of the life and work of this important artist.
