By far the best "All Purpose" fertilizer on the market!
I've been using Jack's Professional aka Jack's Classic All Purpose 20-20-20 for many years. You can water virtually all of your garden with this fertilizer! I use it for both outdoor & indoor plants. I've even used it to revive part of my yard that was dying! It can also be used in both soil & soilless mediums. If you are unsure on how much you should use 1/2 of recommended dose is a good start. If your plants start to claw you are feeding them too much. If they start to fade in color you can probably feed them a little more. You can also use this as a foliage spray (use about .25 normal dose). If your plants are turning yellow or fading in color this will brighten them back up again! It's a shame this is not sold anywhere where I live. Here's a little info from J.R. Peters site that you might find useful:Jack's All Purpose 20-20-20Just as the name suggests, Jack's All Purpose 20-20-20 is a balanced formula applicable to a variety of growing material. Its 1:1:1 nutrient ratio makes it good for almost any stage of plant growth. The design of the formula uses nutrients that provide strength to the plant, as well as, lush green growth. It can be used as a constant liquid feed or periodic feed, alternating with water or rain to provide the plant with a boost of balanced nutrition.Preferably, it should be used on soil-based media, rather than on soilless media, primarily during warmer months, indoors or in warm-climate regions. These environments allow the roots to take up the nitrogen sources most effectively. Long-term use of high Phosphorus formulas can lead to plant stretch in some plant varieties. Therefore, it is recommended when using this formula over long periods (greater than 3-4 months) of plant growth, alternate with a lower Phosphorous source such as rainwater, calcium nitrate or other lower phosphorus fertilizers.Application of this fertilizer can be used as a root drench or foliar spray. The nutrient package in the All-Purpose 20-20-20 is designed for optimum absorption by the leaves when sprayed at the recommended rates; however, a root drench is just as effective and will leave little to no salt build up in the media. All Purpose 20-20-20 can be used on many types of plants including, but not limited to:Orchids (all varieties) both blooming and in vegetative state Use All Purpose 20-20-20 for ApplesCyclamenHibiscusCitrus treesChrysanthemumsAll bedding plantsHanging basketsMixed containersPetunias & CalibrachoasGardeniaBromeliadsRosesAll types of BerriesSunflowerTomatoesAll vegetablesRegular and Giant PumpkinsHome lawnsCommercial turf grassHay and forage plots-------------------------------------All Purpose 20-20-20 is our biggest seller for home professional grower formulas. Start with half dose
Works great if you start with half dose and use cal-mag. Once you work up to full dose within 2-3 weeks, the plants become growing/eating machines. Doesn't have all micros but does have boron, which is essential.

Solid water-soluble fertilizers
JR Peters does make some of the better water-soluble fertilizers on the market. I bought a 25lb bag of the 20-20-20 to have on hand if happen to need it and other fertilizers are unobtainable. I weighed portions out into vacuum sealed bags and wrote the weights on the bags and then put them in long term storage buckets. In general I only use water soluble fertilizers during the brief window where I start seeds until when they go outdoors into my garden. That is only if I happen to use an inert media that year like peat or coco coir. If that ends up being my only use case, then I'm set for decades.I have a good amount of Jacks Pro Petunia FEED 20-3-19 that I had also bought 25lb bag of years ago. That purchase cost me $42 at the time. That is also stored in the same manner and performs perfectly. I used it this spring in fact. Only variant I do not have of theirs in bulk is a high phosphorous blend for late season blooms.Gave it a three for affordability simply because the price is double what you would of paid a few years ago for the same amount.

A superior alternative to Miracle Gro
Back in the old days, before Scotts bought up everything and spoiled all that they touched, there was a product called Miracle-Gro that consisted of 15% nitrogen, 30% phosphorus and 15% potash. It worked well. Now that the product is in Scotts' hands, the fertilizer proportions are way off. In addition, Miracle-Gro has steadily come out with applicators that literally spew [way too concentrated] solutions of their product over gardens, making the consumption of the stuff unbelievably high. A little water soluble fertilizer goes a long way, and over applying does not improve results - the excess is carried off by a good rain, and so it adds to the polluting runoff problems.Jack's water soluble fertilizer has a sensible 20-20-20 formulation, dissolves readily, and is available in bulk for less money per pound than the ever shrinking boxes of Miracle-Gro. (Back in the old days, a box of the stuff was 5 lbs - I believe it has shrunk to 4 lbs). Anyway, I try to steer away from any product that's been taken over by Scotts - they bought Smith and Hawken (a high end retailer of good quality gardening supplies) and filled the stores with junk, never thinking that this might ruin the business, There are no more Smith and Hawken stores in existence - Scotts simply mismanaged them until they were bankrupt.I have two acres of cultivated gardens, mostly perennials. I would estimate that I will use 10 pounds of water soluble fertilizer this year, and about a gallon of fish emulsion concentrate. And so, properly stored, by purchasing this you will be getting a superior product that, depending upon frequency of application and your gardening areas, may last you more than one season.

Works!
I love being able to buy a huge industrial size bag that should last all summer through the growing season. This is water soluble so plants have access to the elements immediately. I mix it into water in my watering can and water the plants with it.
