The steering remote control applies to car CD, car DVD, car GPS, car MP3 and other electronic products. The Innovic control, designed with simplicity in mind, is fixed on the steering wheel, is simple install, and is compatible with various car remote devices. The infrared steering remote control is designed specially to keep you hands free while you’re enjoying music (or while listening to CD but wishing to change the volume), by constantly maintaining vision above the dash. That is, you never have to take your eye off the road. So, it is a convenience product and at the same time promotes safe driving. While stopped (car electronics “on” position), you copy each function of the remote control’s, and the hands-free device learns its signals, which allows you to use it instead of your car’s standard remote control, and also instead of Head-Unit buttons.Powered by a battery, this device provides many hours of CD radio or GPS control function. Get one today and enjoy the controls you can get only from the CD player remote (such as preset programming) from the steering wheel remote control! This remote can copy over 95% of infrared formats on existing market. This product is not OK with Pioneer players.

The only reason why I gave it two starts is because it looks cute on my steering wheel. Unfortunately it didn't stay there because I had to return it. I tried a multiple times to program the remote. I know I'm doing it correctly because I follow the instructions word for word. I also watched a video on youtube of an individual who successful programmed his remote. I'm done! Very discouraging. I'm not saying it won't work for you. Maybe it's the radio I have. I installed an after market double din stereo by Pumkpin (a company in China), so I don't know if it's the remote or the stereo. I wish it worked. It's very cute.

nice gadget
really nice and easy gadget for your car, shame it does not have a mute button on it, I just programmed the on/off one to mute the radio, really good quality, easy to set up and really works, I was hesitant due to the angle it would be related to the radio, but it worked perfectly, you dong have to look down and look for the right button to decrease or increase the volume etc.. everything is at the steering wheel, pretty handy, material looks great, and it is not that big that you will feel as if you lost a piece of your wheel.

Works, basically
Well you might want to save your money and purchase the more expensive remotes. Some of the issues I noted after purchasing it: it didn't want to copy all of my remote codes- I ended up with volume - up/down, selection of track - advance/return (these are the controls I would really consider basic needs), the remote is held in place by an elastic strap which can be tighened/velcroed but it does move on my steering wheel which isn't real cool (maybe I could epoxy it in place)and really the buttons on the remote are kind of stiff- so pressing them makes the remote move- unless you use your hand around the steering wheel to secure the unit, lastly it does have problems with getting the signal to my main unit, I ended up taping some aluminum foil at the sending end to direct the remote signal more towards the main unit (seems to help, but this is kind of a redneck solution). So beware, it works but expect some issues.

Worthless, tried all the gimmicks, got it to work "somewhat" by placing it inches from the radio.
worthless, tried all the gimmicks except the ones that would ruin the unit, got it to work "somewhat" by placing it inches from the radio. If you drill a hole in it to ease the path of the infrared light, you've just ruined your warranty! Don't waste your time or money. Used on:JVC KD-R80BT CD receiver with AM/FM tuner. The JVC unit is INCREDIBLE! Made up for this junk which went in the trash-not worth the time and money to return it.

Alright, not great.
Seems like a good idea, but the placement of the unit has to be just right in order for your stereo to pick up the signal. The strap also comes loose and you will need tools to re-tighten. After a while, the unit kind of gets in the way of your driving. Works good as a universal handheld controler, but not so good when mounted.

It worked, basically
Firstly, the installation instructions were not very good, but I eventually managed to figure out that I needed to remove two screws in the base to get it to fit unto the steering wheel.Secondly, it range is pretty much the same as the handheld IR remote that my headunit came with. The headunit in my car only received a signal when the steering wheel was at a particular angle. I tried different angles, different directions and only met with limited success. It may work for someone else, but it didn't work for me in my Subaru Forester.
