I read this book as part of a reviewer role and really enjoyed it. The book is clearly and logically structured, making it easy to follow for both beginners and more advanced readers. I especially appreciated the author’s personal touch, which adds authenticity and real-world relevance to the subject. In terms of content, the book covers both the fundamental concepts and in-depth expert knowledge, providing a very comprehensive overview. Overall, I felt that no questions were left unanswered—the topic is covered so thoroughly that I don’t feel the need to read another book on this subject. For someone like me who has no technical background Declan Moran makes networking feel far less intimidating and much easier to understand. The everyday examples really help the ideas click and the summaries and diagrams add a lot. It is clear he wants to explain things simply without talking down to the reader. Overall it is a really strong and engaging read that gave me a much clearer understanding of a world I had not really understood before.

I couldn't recommend this book highly enough. Now my go to reference for all things network. I particularly love the summaries and analogies. The way the book is structured is intuitive and sensible with the chapters broken out into Foundations, Lower, Middle and Upper Layers. Clarity without sacrificing technical depth. The chapter on Security is pure gold and not just a bonus added on but a must have for all modern Software professionals. Looking forward to any future books published by this author!

A very strong book. It explains how the internet actually works - from the physical infrastructure to the protocols that connect everyone from everywhere. You get a structural picture of the whole system, grounded in clear examples and analogies. Useful for understanding the terminology, but more importantly, it gives you a bird's-eye view of how everything fits together without demanding heavy mental lifting.
