This Is Texas: A Children's Classic

I bought this book to send to my daughter's former school friends in London, so they could know about where she is from and where she moved back to. I quickly realized though, that although the seller's description says 5 years old and up, it's really for older kids. The kids this was intended for are 4 and 5, and I could even see some 6 year olds getting bored by the length of text. I liked the book, but I think it's for older kids. The artwork is wonderful, but the text is a little wordy for the younger kids, methinks.

Love this classic book on Texas! It's a keepsake for both kids and adults. The original copyright is by Miroslav Easel, 1967. Includes Lubbock and other West Texas towns, too...for once!

Miroslav Sasek wrote and illustrated many of these books of countries and places and I remember them from my childhood. They have been updated with notes in the back and the beautiful illustrations give a great feel for our big state. Humorous too.

Not a hit in my family.There are too many cold facts and numbers for a six years old. And many of those numbers are outdated for older kids to use for a school study. I'm sorry but illustrations are not that visually appealing to get back to the book just for that.We need a good Texas book for elementary school students badly!

Great author, great read a while back they don't write them as they used to. You get it immediately. Creative and imaginative author.

Up until now I have wrongly assumed that mr Sasek is an american, drawing (and writing) from inside his own "domain". Superficially thumbing through his books on New York and San Francisco, on earlier occasions, only strengthened my assumption.Now I have learned about the background of this true internationalist, I still find his depictions of the USA the most spirited!

I lived in Texas for 3 years and while I was there all of the kids in my family wanted to know about the state and its culture. This became the perfect Christmas gift for all of them and they loved it.

This book is a classic. The illustrations are great. It was written a while ago though so some of the factual information is incorrect now of course but I love it!

Este "This is Texas" consta de uma coleção de 18 livros.Obs: Para quem gosta de ilustrações da década de 60/70 e de livros que tratam de lugares diferentes para se conhecer, o artista teve um olhar interessantíssimo dos lugares que retratou. E apesar de terem sido realizados no final da década de 50 até meados de 70, foram reeditados e quando algo está datado por exemplo, isto é mencionado.

Texasを紹介する絵本です。絵は、まるで写真のように細かく書いてあります。描いてある場所を、写真で見たことがある人、実際に見たことのある人は、きっと感激すると思います。本当に、写真のようです！！絵本なので、一つの絵に対して、20語〜100語ぐらいの説明が書いてあります。総ページはP60です。総単語は、2436語です。（たぶんです。モカが数えたのでっ）モカは、多読の1册として読んだのですが、結構難しい単語も出てきて、30分はかかりました（＾＾；でも、次回は解らない単語を調べつつ、絵をもっと楽しみながら読みたい1册です。モカの家には、アメリカ関連グッズコーナーがあるのですが、そこに飾っておきたいです（＊＾＾＊）Texasは、なかなか観光では行かない街ですが、いいところたくさんあります。Texasが好きな人にはお勧めの1册です（＊＾＾＊）なぜ、モカがTexasが好きなのかって？それは、2年間住んでたことがあるからで〜す（＾＾）もう一度、住んでみたいよ〜（T_T）

６年近くテキサスにいましたが、テキサスのよいところも悪いところもよく網羅してあってよかったです。面白い視点で上手にまとめられていてガイドブックと言うより社会科の本のようで、ちょっと皮肉もあるところは大人の読み物としても楽しかったです。このシリーズのほかの本も買いたくなりました。
