Enchanter's Spell (Five Famous Tales)

Everything I've bought that it's illustrated by him ranges from beautiful to exquisite. A remarkable illustrater!

I found this gem of a book in our local library and my 5-year-old daughter and I fell in love with it. There are five stories collected here, i.e. "Little Daylight" by George Macdonald which is a twist on Sleeping Beauty, "The Princess and the Seven Brothers" by Alexander Pushkin which is a twist on Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, "The Nutcracker" by E.T.A. Hoffman, "The Beautiful Kitchen Maid" by Miguel de Cervantes, and "The Emperor's New Clothes" by Hans Christian Andersen.The stories are well-told, and I especially liked "Little Daylight" and "The Princess and the Seven Brothers" for the refreshing spin on familiar fairy tales. In "The Princess and the Seven Brothers", instead of seven dwarves, the princess meets seven tall and handsome young brothers! The book contains beautiful illustrations by Russian artist Gennady Spirin - the illustrations have a life-like quality, are meticulously detailed and awash in color. I plan on getting this for our home library as it's such a gorgeously illustrated book!

The artwork was terrific......Spirin always is!!!! But some of the stories were difficult for little ones to follow...the plots could have been streamlined without spoiling them--as in too many characters making cameo appearances. But on a whole the book is a good buy. It was in next to perfect condition and listed as a used book with low cost. Arrived timely. And, at the risk of repeating myself....Spirin's artwork is outstanding and there's a lot of it. There are pictures on every page or facing page. I need the visuals to keep my grandchildren's attentions riveted. Spirin's artwork is riveting...there is so much detail in every picture.

This is an awesome edition. the illustrations are so beautiful. It is a truly beautiful book to have. A must have for any library.
