Good little soil sensors not perfect but for general purposes work fine.
Those are great little sensors to put around the yard. Battery life has been good. The batteries were fully charged when I got them. Functionality is good; they report soil moisture just fine and are very responsive. The temperature is reported from the green cap, so it's very influenced by the sun shining on it. So far, they've survived a few storms, so they seem durable. And from a connectivity standpoint, they haven't dropped once, that's after moving them around the yard. I should mention I'm using SmartThings, and they've been great.

Gen2 has better connectivity but Gen1 has better temperature accuracy
I have both Gen1 and Gen2 of these sensors. The Gen1 are terrible when it comes to connectivity, they don't stay connected unless they are next to the hub. Gen2 are a MAJOR UPGRADE their connection range is significantly better and much more stable. I have 6 Gen2 and none of them have disconnected since I set them up. The 10 Gen1 sensors I have need daily resets on any that are not within 10 feet of the the hub. That being said, the numbers reported by the Gen1 seem more accurate. On a 90° day the Gen1's all reported something around 90° while the Gen2's all reported around 110°. They do have an offset but not that big. The soil moisture numbers all seem about accurate. Since I'm using them to trigger my watering system I just use a threshold number that it needs to be below. They serve my purposes but know they are not perfect, but for the price they are good enough.

Works great until it doesn't
Works great with Home Assistant until it stop working. Out of the 3 sensors. One completely failed, One reads 100% moisture no matter what. just bite the bullet and go with the Ecowitt solution.

Works great
Seems to be working great but have never used a sensor like this and dont have anything to compare it to. It did lose its connection once to the network, but I reconnected it and it’s been fine since I have this set with a sprinkler to turn on automatically when it reaches a low moisture level and it’s working great.

If you have issues powering the device up, ditch the battery.
The device is nicely constructed and a lot bigger than you think I still need to test it in my garden, but adopting it home assistant I had quite a few issues at first. When I opened it up and pulled the tab for the battery the light blink blue and my zigbee antenna started to adopt the device, after about 5 minutes it error out saying it couldn't connect to the device. So I tried holding the reset button down for 5 seconds and the light wouldn't turn red or blue like according to the instructions, thought I may have had a bad device which can happen but it lit up once so I investigated further to make sure it wasn't bad. What I discovered is the device comes with an Amazon basic AA battery, so I took the battery out reinserted it and the blue light turned on and then turned off wouldn't do the blinking pattern or anything and then I noticed if I push the battery down into the device it would turn on and start blinking. So the tab at the top that sits on the negative side of the battery I bent it down just a little bit to force the battery down more in case it wasn't make a good enough contact and when I put the battery back in the light turned on for a second and then turned off and didn't blink. So I went to grab a Energizer AA battery and put it in and it immediately came on with a blinking blue light. After looking into it further it looks like the little nub on the top of the positive side of the Amazon battery is not long enough to make contact with the connector inside the base of the device unless you push the battery down inside but as soon as you let go it turns off but with the Energizer battery it worked just fine. A design change I think that needs to be made is the connector inside the device for the positive side probably needs to be more raised up like a dome versus just a flat plate so it will make better contact with other batteries.

Got two, both were wildly inaccurate and Third Reality support was not helpful
I purchased two of these sensors to place in large plant pots that flank my front door. My plan was to use them to trigger automatic watering. However, both of the sensors exhibited the same behavior - if I watered the plants fully both sensors would rise to a near 100% moisture level, then over the next few hours would drop smoothly down to the 70%-80% range, as expected. But then going forward, for days and days and weeks and weeks the sensors would slowly oscillate within about a 5% range, dropping in a smooth line down to the 70% range, the rising in a smooth line up the the 80% range, and continually oscillating like that each day for weeks at a time, but never decreasing by any substantial amount. When I used a commercial grade handheld soil moisture sensor I could insert it within a few centimeters of the Third Reality sensors and get completely different readings - for example, my handheld sensor would show 25% moisture while the Third Reality showed 75%. Here's the crazy part - if I slid the pots across the patio to clean behind them the Third Reality sensors would suddenly reset to the correct moisture level! Also, if I removed the sensors and reinserted them nearby they would also give a correct reading. I thought maybe the soil had air pockets or some other issues so I made sure to tamp it down reasonably tightly where the sensors were inserted but it made no difference. I opened a case with Third Reality support and they were of exactly zero help. Their only contention was that there were connectivity issues between the sensors and the hub, however I was getting dozens of new readings every hour, they just weren't decreasing to match the soil moisture levels. I literally exported all the hundreds of readings I'd gotten with only small microvariations between them and sent to them, but they doubled down that it was connectivity. Finally, in desperation, I switched to sensors from Ecowitt and those have worked perfectly, inserted within a couple of centimemeters of the Third Reality sensors. The lengthy troubleshooting put me outside the return window with Amazon so I guess I'm stuck with these Third Reality soil moisture sensors, but since they are unreliable I guess I'll junk them. Not recommended, particularly because I got two of them with the same behavior, and I got stonewalled by Third Reality support.

Great for Casual Use
I am not a soil scientist or a botanist, but I wanted some way to keep "in touch" with my plants for some better growth, and some kind of reminder for when I get a little bit forgetful. This sensor works reasonably well for that. If you've been in the smart home long game, you've been around several protocols and hacky ways to inject smarts into new things. This feels a little bit like that since it doesn't quite have the polish as modern Matter connectivity. I have no problem recommending this, but be aware of what you're getting into!

Easy to setup, instantly connects and registers moisture !
I have been using the smartthings app for about 5 years now and third reality devices are one of the better device making companies that works well with smartthings ! I took the sensor out of the box, got smartthings ready to scan for nearby devices, took the plastic tab out from the battery on the device and it connected to smartthings within 5 seconds. Compatibility with smartthings is stellar ! I then took the device and tested Moisture content on a plant that I watered yesterday and it registered 57% moisture - which seems about right - the soil is pretty wet. I then moved it to my blueberry mound which is pretty dry and the device indicates it is dry ! Since it’s day one - I don’t know about battery life, but I am planning on buying more of these devices as third reality’s accuracy and reputation is very good This device also has a thermometer as well and it’s right on target for the outside temp As a test - we used a manual sensor next to this one and this one was dead on - soaking it was 99% before it was 18%

2° versione funziona in modo eccellente
