This books needs to be available in every library, medical facility and private home.
Linnaea suffered too long without benefiting from the knowledge she has presented for us an easy to understand book that would fit in most purses, briefcases or backpacks. We all interact on a regular basis with someone struggling to understand what we are saying because of a hearing loss. I have only experienced a tiny glimpse of her frustration when trying to decipher voice mails. I love the CPR idea since every citizen would benefit from taking CPR to save a life, we would also benefit from learning and memorizing CPR for hearing loss to facilitate a improved quality of life.

"...as one having authority..."
Ms Mallette's book resonates on three levels:1. It is the story of a survivor, an overcomer, a thriver. ("That which does not kill you makes you stronger.")2. It is a user-friendly guide to those with hearing loss and those who interact with those with hearing loss.3. It is an example of a person teaching with authority, rather than just having done a lot of research but never tested or lived it. (Matthew 7:29)Buy the book. Read it. Let its relevance sink in.

Must read for the Boomer Generation
This is by far the best information for a generation of Boomers who have no clue about hearing loss. My guy suffers from extreme hearing loss due to Chicken Pox as an adult. This book is helping him and also myself in understanding, accepting and living with hearing loss. The resources available in this book are outstanding.

Completely changed the way I view and communicate with those that are hearing impaired!
I live with someone that is hearing impaired (about 50%) and was looking for tips to help me be more understanding of the condition, and get some tips on how to communicate so she can hear me better. This book covered everything!I initially thought I was going to read some tips I already knew. Instead, I was deeply surprised how little I actually knew about hearing loss—and I've been living with this for over a decade! Some of the highlights for me were:- the fact that some people with hearing loss don't just experience diminished volume, but can't hear certain letters or syllables.- hearing aids can be a LOT of work and maintenance for the wearer, and don't help everywhere for every situation.- facing a person and mouthing the words well helps, but is not a guarantee they will understand.- body language plays a huge, if not bigger part.- in office settings, it's good to have coworkers come by your desk in the case of alarms and emergencies, and not assume you hear/see it.Linnaea does an amazing job starting with her own story, and walking you through how she struggled to hide it for years and years while her job and world around her started to crumble. She walks you through acknowledging it and working with those around you to understand your communication needs. Then there is some great insights to testing, and devices, and ways to make the devices work in many situations such as elevators, dinner parties, watching TV, speaking engagements and more.I never knew the struggles a person goes through in situations that to me seem easily solved with a hearing aid. Apparently it's not that easy, but she still recommends getting one if your audiologist prescribes one. This book definitely opened my eyes to a whole new world that I should have taken the time to better understand years ago.I HIGHLY recommend this book for:- those with hearing loss (no matter how long you have experienced it)- those living or working with someone with hearing loss- anyone that wants to learn more about hearing loss and how to better communicate with the hearing impaired.

Must have in your library
The simple truth is we all are in the same boat: either we ourselves or someone close to us, a friend, a family member, will have hearing loss. Of course, there is a lot of info on the Internet, but from my experience, after few minutes of search you are totally and completely overwhelmed, overloaded and quite confused. What to do? To what extent? Why? Where to start? Linnaea gives very simple and practical answers to all these questions. The best part – it is so easy and FUN to read. This book has a very unique feature: you feel a presence of the person talking to you. Not only it equips you with needed information, it also charges with a very positive energy, that we all get after reading a good book. Enjoy!

Linnaea Mallette makes it personal
My hearing loss is very significant in the right ear. Discovered when I was about 6 or 7 years old. It is either a birth defect or caused by childhood disease. No one knows.I have a Xerox copy of my last hearing test. That was done about three month ago in a search for cause of my recurring vertigo. The test was essentially the same results as the previous test conducted about three years ago. It appears I will be living with bouts of vertigo. Cause is unknown. This book is a wonderful guide for those who have serious hearing loss. I especially like Chapter 10. I can relate to turning off the hearing aids. I cover my left ear and can shut out people talking when I am trying to focus on something I am reading.
