Q: Why is shipping $8.95 for a plastic vial that would fit in a small padded envelope?

Not sure, but I expect it is the standard rate for express shipping. Even more puzzling: why are they charging $18 for a trial size/plastic vial? Better department stores give these as samples to their customers.

Q: Is this the same fragrance as the old Joy by Jean Patou?

No, this fragrance is much lighter--floral.
