My son in law loved it

My son is at the age that he's become interested in hunting and carrying on the family tradition. However, this isn't the only reason I bought the book-I also purchased it to help inspire my son to read and wow, did it work-he read the entire book in no time :)

Considering that this copy was from a library, it is in good condition. The quality of it's paper is rather poor not much better than that of old magazines. But I rate the books I read based on content more than on appearance, and the contents are informative and make for easy reading. This book would be a confirmed 5 star recommendation if the paper quality was better and the illustrations were in color.

I was lent a copy of this book and ordered a copy after reading some of the deer hunting section. I think the reason this book is so effective is that it is written by a number of different HUNTERS. They tell it like it is with many concrete examples of what they are explaining. I am going to buy some of these books as gifts for other people.

This is the best book of hunting I have , good articles and good tips for beginners. Its main subject "White tail" but you got every tip for North american hunting. You also got recipes at the end of the book recommandes. And alot of pages

This book is geared towards eastern hunters and about 1/4 of the book is on whitetail. Other species are haphazardly discussed in various sections such as bowhunting techniques. This is a far from complete north american hunting book regarding species covered.This book is essentially a collection of magazine articles compiled together. They are overall useful in communicating general skills and, for a few species, reasonably detailed hunting advice. It's just laid out very poorly and has extreme eastern bias towards game species.The best part of this book is the cookbook section. It's reasonably well laid out and covers a broad range of game recipes for various species and has a decent section on ground jerky.The inclusion of hunting stories and big game records doesn't appeal to me at all but it may to some others.To be fair to this book, reading it in it's entirety would give a very solid base reference knowledge for hunting most north american game. What it is not, is a species by species reference book.

Very good and comprehensive. I just wish the paper quality and quality of the photos was a bit better... but the info is great!
